CHAPTER TEN

"I'm done here. She wants to kill me." Joe says pointing at Kayla. Everyone in the room looks at Kayla surprised. Andrew thinks Joe is drunk.

"Hello Sir, are you okay?" Andrew asks. Joe storms out of the office and goes to his car. Everyone is left in the office, shock is written all over their faces.

"What is wrong with him?" Kayla asks Andrew, who does not seem surprised by the developing drama.

"I think he is drunk, let us give him time," Andrew responds.

"Which time? Look, he is already leaving." Lucia says as she points at the moving Range Rover.

"Find another one, this case is pressuring me." The CEO tells Andrew and walks out to his Prado TX.

"Is the lawyer gone?" Andrew asks.

"Yeah, he disappeared," Kayla says and returns to her chair.

"We have to find another lawyer," Andrew says. Lucia starts to laugh. She had been holding laughter all that time.

"Seriously, did you want to kill him?" Lucia asks Kayla, who seems carried away.

"Let us get back to our work." Andrew interrupts. Kayla stands up quietly and walks upstairs to her office. She is thinking hard about what Joe meant.

'Kill him? How?' She asks herself. Andrew and Lucia do not have any idea that Kayla and Joe are close.

"Are you okay?" Andrew asks Kayla after getting into the office unnoticed an hour later.

"Yes, why?" Kayla responds.

"You seem stressed," Andrew says. He is correct. Kayla is not okay, but she cannot say it. She will have to keep all the secrets by herself.

"Do you think he was drunk?" She asks.

"Yes, he was not sober," Andrew responds.

"Why did he say that I want to kill him?" Kayla asks again.

"Guess what, forget about that. We will find another lawyer." Andrew says and gets closer to Kayla.

"What is the meaning of this?" Kayla asks after Andrew touched her hair.

"You have beautiful hair," Andrew says.

"Thank you," Kayla says. Andrew is the touchy type of person, the kind of person who doesn't have manners when it comes to personal space. He is touching Kayla's and it is becoming uncomfortable for her.

"I remember that day." He says.

"Can you just leave my hair alone, which day are you talking about?" Kayla responds.

"That first day I saw you in school during the visiting day," Andrew replies and stops touching Kayla's hair. He looks at Kayla straight into her eyes.

"She is a threat, we can't stay with her here," Joe says after getting back to the house.

"What are you talking about?" Mercy says. She is in the bedroom preparing to go and pick Vincent from school. She would then pass by Kayla to pick her.

"I had a work session in their office today, as I sat listening, Kayla stood up holding a sharp sword, and walked towards me. She was furious." Joe responds panting.

"Joe, are you okay??" Mercy asks. Whatever Joe is saying does not make sense to her.

"That is what everyone else asked me. I'm telling you, she will kill me." Joe says. Mercy is now confused. She doesn't know how to respond.

"So, what do you want us to do?" Mercy asks.

"Let her find a place of her own," Joe says.

"But Joe, have you forgotten about yesterday? She is the only option that we have, if she goes, our marriage will be at risk." Mercy says.

"I have already settled on the other option, don't worry about that," Joe replies.

"Which other option?" Mercy asks.

"Beby come on, we can always have other children," Joe says and looks at Mercy.

"Joe, what did you say?" Mercy asks angrily. She cannot believe what Joe said.

"Yes, let Vincent save us. I don't want to die, neither do I want to lose you." He responds. Mercy is filled with fury.

"I knew it." She says, picks the car keys then makes strides towards the door.

"You knew what?" Joe grabs her hand.

"Leave me alone. Allowing anyone to touch my son is the least I will never do." Mercy says. Her tone has changed.

"Vincent is our savior, whether you like it or not, and I don't want to see that devil here again," Joe says and lets go of Mercy's hand.

While Andrew is looking straight into Kayla's eyes, Lucia walks in unexpectedly. Andrew pretends to be looking for something on the table.

"What is happening?" Lucia asks. Kayla seems confused.

"Nothing, why?" Andrew says.

"Because I have called you 4 times and you are not picking," Lucia says, referring to Andrew.

"Oooh, sorry. What is up?" Andrew asks.

"We have a visitor at the reception. She wants to see Kayla" Lucia responds. Kayla immediately walks downstairs and meets Mercy.

"I need to talk to you briefly," Mercy says and draws Kayla closer and outside.

"What is happening Mercy?" Kayla asks.

"Joe says that you wanted to kill her. Is that true?" Mercy asks.

"Mercy, you can even ask everyone who was in that meeting. I didn't even move an inch." Kayla says.

"What happened?" Mercy asks.

"I don't know, honestly. All of a sudden, he started saying that I wanted to kill him." Kayla says.

"What is the time now? Can you find a house of yours today? Because Joe said that he doesn't want to see you again." Mercy says. Kayla does not look surprised. She expected it.

"But I don't have money right now," Kayla says.

"You can ask for an advance payment. Let me go and get Vincent, just know that Joe does not want you back to the house." Mercy says and parted with Kayla.

'Ask for an advance? I thought you could help me out, Mercy.' Kayla tells herself.

"Who is that lady to you?" Andrew asks Kayla after gets back to her office.

"My cousin. I need some assistance bytheway Andrew." Kayla responds. She wants money to relocate.

"Waaaait, you mean you are related?" Andrew asks.

"Yes, why?" Kayla asks.

"She is my ex-girlfriend"...
