His Woman

"Move." Adrian's voice was cold enough to freeze the rain. Damien didn't even blink. "I said..." Adrian took another step forward. "Move." Damien's lips curved into a faint smile. "Or what?" The atmosphere instantly turned deadly. The bodyguards standing behind both men exchanged uneasy glances. Neither side dared to interfere. Everyone in the city knew one thing. Adrian Knight and Damien Black. The two most powerful men in the country. The two men who had spent years trying to crush each other's empires. And now... They were standing face to face because of one woman. Rain dripped from Adrian's hair. His eyes never left Isabella. "Come here." His tone carried the same authority it always had. The same tone that once made her obey without question. But today... She didn't move. Adrian frowned. "Did you hear me?" Isabella looked at him quietly. Then... "I heard you." His expression eased slightly. Until she continued. "But I don't belong to you anymore." His pupils narrowed. The words hit him harder than he expected. For three years... She had never talked back. Never refused him. Never walked away. Yet today... She had done all three. Something unfamiliar twisted inside his chest. He hated it. Damien noticed the subtle change in Adrian's expression. A smile flashed across his face. Interesting. The great Adrian Knight... Was finally feeling something. Unfortunately... It was too late. Damien took off his suit jacket. Without asking... He draped it over Isabella's shoulders. "You're freezing." His voice was unexpectedly gentle. Isabella instinctively tried to remove it. "I'll be fine." "You won't." "You'll catch a cold." The warmth of the jacket surrounded her. For a moment... She forgot how cold the rain was. Adrian's face darkened. "Take it off." Neither of them reacted. His voice became harsher. "I said..." "Take." "It." "Off." Damien slowly turned to him. "She's wearing my jacket." "What does that have to do with you?" The question struck Adrian like a punch. What did it have to do with him? Nothing. He had divorced her himself. He should have walked away. So why... Why did seeing another man take care of her make his blood boil? Before Adrian could answer... A luxury car sped into the driveway. The passenger door flew open. A beautiful woman in an elegant white dress hurried toward them. "Adrian!" Sophia Blake. She wrapped both arms around Adrian's. "I've been calling you." "I heard you rushed out after signing the divorce papers." Her eyes finally landed on Isabella. A victorious smile appeared. "So..." "It's finally over." She stepped closer. "I should thank you." "If you hadn't signed..." "I wouldn't be Mrs. Knight." Isabella remained silent. There was nothing left to say. Sophia leaned in, lowering her voice so only Isabella could hear. "You were never more than a temporary substitute." "Now that I've returned..." "Your role is over." A sharp slap echoed through the rain. Smack! Sophia's head snapped to the side. The smile vanished from her face. She slowly touched her burning cheek. Disbelief filled her eyes. "You..." "You slapped me?" Isabella lowered her hand. Her voice was calm. Steady. "I did." "You can steal a man." "But don't expect me to stand here while you insult me." Sophia's eyes instantly filled with tears. She turned toward Adrian. "Adrian..." "She hit me..." Before Adrian could speak... Damien stepped beside Isabella. His voice was colder than the rain. "She only slapped you once." "If you insult my woman again..." "I won't be as polite." The entire driveway fell silent. Even Isabella turned to look at him. My woman? Damien met her surprised gaze. His expression never changed. But his next words stunned everyone. "Miss Isabella." "Would you do me the honor..." "...of having dinner with me tonight?" Across from them... Adrian's fists clenched so tightly that blood seeped from his palm. For the first time in his life... He felt something he had never believed possible. Fear. The fear of losing someone... Who was already gone.
