Chapter 5 A week later—and several hundred miles after leaving Middleton—Erik was almost to the western edge of the state. He’d stopped in several small towns along the way, staying the night in some, just checking out others. They were all nice enough. He might even have decided to settle in a couple of them, if he hadn’t been to Middleton first. The ride gave him time to think. At first he played his last night with the bastard over and over in his head, followed by their life together before that fateful evening.
