Chapter 2

SYLVIA. “You can't do this to me Jerome, we have built so much together, why divorce me now?” I mumbled with tears flooding my eyes. Jerome's frown intensified. “Build what together? I was already a billionaire before I met you. I built my company from scratch, and you weren't in my life to watch this happen. So don't dare speak like you helped me in some way.” I couldn't believe my eyes. Divorce papers? But why? What did I do to deserve this? “So.” I sniffed hard, trying to put myself together, “You want to divorce me because of my best friend.” Amy got out of bed, she was stark naked and her ass jiggled as she walked. She went closer to Jerome and wrapped her arms around his neck. The sight alone made me burn with anger. I wanted to run insane. My heart was on fire, and it shattered into bits. I couldn't breathe well, and it felt like the air had seized. “I have been waiting for this day for such a long time, baby, I am so glad that it's happening now.” She pressed her lips on his, and they kissed fiercely, not caring if I was present. The sight broke me. What's the use of fighting for a marriage that is already broken? I picked up my bag, took out a pen, and looked at them as they watched me. “This is what you want, right?” I asked and Amy's smirk deepened. My body was trembling in an uncontrollable pain. I was trying so hard not to break down in front of them. The agony of betrayal stung like a bee. My husband and my best friend. I do hear that things like this happen, but I never imagined it happening to me. Amy and I have been best friends for years, since college. We laughed, cried, and had memories together. I never imagined that she would hurt me so much. Jerome was the love of my life, our marriage was that of a fairytale. I fell in love with him at first sight and I thought he did, everything was just lies, nothing but lies to break me. With a heavy and bleeding heart, I signed the divorce papers. “Great!” Jerome exclaimed. Amy laughed. “Finally, good riddance to bad rubbish.” she rolled her eyes, the deadly smirk not leaving her face. Jerome grinned. “Stand up, pack your things, you have to leave my house this minute!” He ordered. Stunned, I stared at him. “Tonight? Where do you want me to go?” “I don't care!” He sparked, “My home isn't a shelter for the homeless. You are no longer in my life, so you have no access to my home. Pack your things and leave now.” More tears rolled down. “I will leave your house, Jerome, but not tonight. The guests are still downstairs, that will be humiliating on my part!” My heart was beating very fast as I spoke. Jerome's frown deepened. “Do I look like a joke to you? Do as I say and leave my house this minute!” Feeling defeated, I found myself nodding. I was in pain. Deep pain. With staggering legs, I got on my feet and began to head towards the wardrobe where my clothes were. Jerome and Amy laughed. I watched them fall on the bed and began to kiss affectionately. Their laughs filled my ears. My heart was breaking. This can't be real. What did I do to deserve this? A part of my face felt paralyzed due to the shock as more tears rolled down and the heartbreak I felt couldn't be compared to any other pain. I picked up my belongings and stood, watching them cuddle. Amy laughed and Jerome's eyes glittered. “Stay far away from me. You are leaving without a single penny and I don't care if you die starving. Delete my contact and anything that ties us together, what we had is in the past.” I sniffed, holding my luggage. I wanted to say something to them, but I couldn't. I walked out of the room and headed down the stairs. Each step I took was a pain in my legs. No home. No husband and I'm pregnant! There is no way I am letting Jerome know about this child. If he doesn't want me in his life, I should raise my child by myself, even if I have no idea where to start from. With shame, I walked into the living room where the guests were. At the sight of me, they began to mumble, their eyes not leaving me. Deep shame filled me. I have never been so embarrassed in my life and I prayed for the ground to open and swallow me. “Where are you heading to?” Mrs Agatha walked towards me, but before I could say a word, Jerome walked in with Amy by his arm. “We are no longer married!” he announced, and the crowd gasped in shock. My eyes locked with Jerome's mother, her eyes lit up with pride. “Sylvia isn't my wife anymore, and I reject her, neither do I want to have anything to do with her anymore.” His voice was aggressive and firm. He turned to Amy, who smiled perfectly. Amy had always been beautiful, born from a wealthy family and her league was far away from mine. To my shock, Jerome got down on one of his knees and took out a ring, my wedding ring. “Will you marry me?” He proposed to Amy, who appeared stunned. I couldn't bear the shame anymore and dashed out of the room. “Sylvia!” I heard Mrs. Agatha run after me, but I didn't turn back. My world has crumbled. I got divorced and watched my husband propose to my best friend on the same night with my wedding ring! The pain of betrayal was unbearable. I got into my car and drove out as fast as I could, hot tears blinded my eyes.
