Jonathan looked off into the distance he was overwhelmed by Amaya's words. Was he going to reject her? He looked at her hand and saw that she was indeed baring the markings of a highborn Queen in fact he also recognized her pack insignia. That would certainly look excellent in his fathers eyes and it would also consolidate their packs making their packs one of the largest packs around. A pack of warriors, at their disposal a cadre of skilled fighters would also fatten their pockets collectively and make them highly sought after in the werewolf world. There was alway weaker packs that would pay handsomely to have help when it came time for battle against other packs and rogues that threaten to overrun weaker smaller packs. Jonathan also knew that the power in Amaya's pack was shared meaning he wouldn't have total say in whatever he wanted to do he would have to run it by Amaya's pack council but Amaya would have final say and that fact didn't sit right with him after all he was an alpha in his own right and sharing power with his mate well that was just something he never hoped he would have to do. Still thinking, Amaya caught snatches and bits of his inner thoughts and she wasn't liking what she was seeing. He didn't want to have to share power with her and that made her feel sad.
Deciding that she didn't want to be in his presence any longer she abruptly got up and quickly walked away from Jonathan the more space she put between them the more she felt like herself. Having your mate too close to you could really cloud your judgement how did others manage to navigate that sort of thing she wondered. As she went in search of the only other person she knew at the ball her newfound grandmother she wondered what she was going to be tasked with next. She had found her mate and been informed that she was indeed the next queen all in one night, feeling overwhelmed was an understatement. Locating her grandmother she shyly waited for her grandmother to acknowledge her. "Yes child what is it?" Her grandmother asked her acknowledging her. Amaya didn't know what to call this women before her so she just stuck with ma'am. "I've found my mate ma'am, but I'm afraid that he doesn't know if he wants to be apart of..." Amaya's grandmother nodded her head she didn't need amaya to finish she knew exactly what she was alluding to. It happened with the males all too often from other packs. Their pack was different and that's why not everyone could be apart of their pack It had caused many a mate to be rejected thank goodness there was always alternative bonding rituals they could do when fated mated partners didn't work out.
"All is not lost child, if he is fool enough to reject you than there is another route we will give him two days and if he does not come around by the second day you will reject him and we will began the process of finding you a suitable mate. Amaya just nodded her head she didn't know what all this would entail but she had no choice but to defer to the elder woman's wisdom. "Come child since you are now going to be living under my roof I suppose we should get you acclimated as soon as possible."
"In this world we don't always get what we want but we get what we need you would do wise to remember that child. Life is a hard road you will have many choices forced upon you some easy many will be hard some will threaten to break your spirit but you must find the courage to pass each life test with tenacity and bravery. Do you understand me?" "Yes Ma'am" Amaya managed to get out. At this her grandmother turned to her and said, "Enough with this ma'am business you can address me as grand dame or grandmother, or something of that effect its silly to address me like a stranger. I know we haven't bonded yet and you've just met me but I assure you child we are kin." With that She took Amaya's hand in her own and she closed her eyes Amaya didn't know if she should do the same so she just stood there.
Soon Amaya felt a humming in her blood, a calling in her spirit, suddenly her mind was flooded with images from the past not her past but those of her pack, those of her ancestors before her, tears began to run down her face, she wept for the pain, the sorrow the longing, the hurts, she felt immense joy and triumpants as well. Her blood sang as her grandmother continued holding her hand and transferring the history of their family and pack to her. Amaya was beginning to become overwhelmed so emotionally overcome with all the new information she was trying to process at once that she began to feel faint. She wanted to be strong so she forced herself to hold on until she blacked out being overcome with exhaustion and the last thing she remembered was passing out as she held her grandmothers hand.
