The other guy's scent

Adrian’s POV

I am sitting in the living room waiting for my family to come back. They were visiting one of the pack in my kingdom to attend a function.

They will be returning in some time. That is why I decided to wait for them before going in the office to finish my remaining work. I have been busy with my work for past few weeks.

Then I had to attend Alpha summit where all the weird things started happening.

But luckily Charlotte is okay now otherwise it would have been a very big issue for both kingdoms.

Charlotte already recovered from her injuries and went back to her mate’s pack.

Yes you heard me right. She didn’t went back to her kingdom but to her mate’s pack.

She told me the reason yesterday, why she was coming to royal pack on that day where she was attacked by rogue.

Actually she had found her mate on the same day I visited the red shadow pack. She was in nearby pack and the Alpha of that pack is her mate.

She was so happy to find him but wanted to apologize to me because now that she has found her mate, she didn’t want to become my chosen mate.

And I understand her. Finding your mate is one of the biggest blessing for a wolf and I was happy for her.

Apart from this I was happy that now elders won’t force me to announce her as my chosen mate as soon as possible.

Now they will have to find another suitable candidate who can rule my kingdom with me. Definitely it is going to take time.

And that’s what I need the most right now, time. I have to find my mate, or I should say I have to confirm if Hazel is really my mate or not.

I have a strong feeling that she is but need to be sure.

I was able to make her accept my offer of becoming the member of my pack. I wanted to keep her near me so that I can know her better and also figure out if we really are mated or not.

She was hesitant at first. She was scared that I might use her power for my benefit but I won’t. I have strictly ordered my men to keep the truth about her a secret.

Red shadow pack has also stopped searching for her which is a good thing for me.

I came out of my thoughts when I heard the doorbell ring. A maid came and opened the door.

Everyone entered into the living room and I was waiting for Rose to come and start her commentary on everything that happened in that function.

Because this is what she does every time. She is really an enthusiastic person at the age of nineteen. She likes sharing whatever happened throughout the day, with me every night.

But when my eyes fell on her my smile dropped instantly. She is looking sad. Her eyes are red and puffy as if she has been crying for a very long time. Her face looks pale.

“Rose…” I called her. She lifted her eyes to look at me and new fresh tears filled into her eyes.

She didn’t say anything and ran away from there towards her room and locked herself inside.

“What happened to her?” I asked to Celine.

“We don’t know. She kept crying and crying. But she is not telling anything to anyone” Celine said. She also looks worried for her daughter.

I decided to give her some time alone and made my way towards my office. After an hour I came back to living room to check if she came down to have her dinner but no.

She hasn’t come out yet. So I decided to just go and talk to her. I knocked on her door and asked her to open the door but she was not opening it.

I had to use my Alpha tone and she didn’t have any choice but to open the door for me.

And my concern increased even more upon seeing her wet teary face. I made her sit on the bed in her room and took a sit beside her.

“What’s wrong Rose? Why are you crying? Did something happen there in that pack?” I asked.

But she kept on crying without saying anything. It is starting to make me more and more worried. I don’t like seeing tears in her eyes.

“Tell me Rose or I will have to use my Alpha tone to get the answers” I said in stern voice.

She sighed but decided to open up, “There I met my mate”.

“It’s a good news Rose, so why are you crying like this. You wanted to find your mate and now you found one. What’s the problem?” I asked.

Then a possibility crossed my mind and my eyes turned cold along with my voice when I asked, “Did he try to hurt you in any way?”

She shook her head instantly. “No. He didn’t hurt me. But he says that he won’t accept me as his mate and told me to prepare myself for rejection”. She was sobbing even more now.

“What? Why?”

It confused me. Why would anyone reject a mate like Rose? If she was a lower rank wolf than it would have been understandable as not many like to accept omegas or other lower rank wolves as their mate.

But Rose is a royal blood. Everyone dies to be paired with royal blood so that they can have a stronger heir. I always thought that I will have to be careful whenever Rose finds her mate, to make sure that the guy is not just after her bloodline and reputation of a princess.

I thought I will have to make sure that her mate is a good person who will truly treasure my sister.

But here the case is completely different. Why does her mate wants to reject her?

But her next words answered my question. “He said that he is in love with someone else. He can never forget about her and she is the only one in his heart and that is never going to change”.

It angered me. How can he do this to my princess? How can he reject his own mate for other woman?

Now my anger started diverting towards that woman. Who is that b**ch? Shouldn’t she be with her own mate? Why is she whoring around with other people’s mate.

“Who is your mate?” I asked her in calm tone.

“Alpha Darren” she whispered.

It caught my attention. In red shadow pack when I met him, my wolf Aiden was going crazy in my head. As if he was angry at him for something.

I pushed the feeling away and patted Rose’s head gently, “Don’t worry. I will take care of everything. I will send someone up here with food so eat and go to sleep”.

“What will you do?” she asked me.

“I will talk with him. You don’t have to be worried about anything, okay?”

“Will he accept me? He should right? I am his mate. I don’t want him to reject me” she said in her cracked voice.

“He won’t reject you. I promise. Now stop crying” I assured her and she nodded her head.

I came back to my office. I saw Hazel putting four cups of coffee on the table. I had already mind linked Zain, Harry and Blake to come here.

I guess Zain must have asked her to bring coffee. She looked up and our eyes met for a moment before she casted her eyes down and walked out of the office after bowing in front of me.

But that single moment of eye contact was enough to drive me and Aiden crazy.

I have noticed she acts very strangely around me. I wonder if she also feels some kind of connection between us like I do.

I was brought out of my thoughts when Zain asked, “What’s the matter Alpha King?”

“Call Alpha Darren and tell him that I have demanded his presence in the palace tomorrow in the afternoon” I said.

“Is there anything wrong, King? You look angry” Blake asked.

I told them everything that I heard from Rose and all three of them were angry just like me, on both Alpha Darren and the girl who is becoming the reason for Rose’s tears.

I will have to take care of both of them.

My eyes are fixed on the man sitting in front of me. His unwavering gaze tells me that he is not lying to me right now.

And the fact that he is being completely honest and is telling the truth, is what making me lose my temper even more.

He came here a while ago with his Beta and Gamma. By the look on his face it was obvious that he knew why he has been summoned here.

When I asked him why he wants to reject my sister, he didn’t even hesitate before saying that he loves someone else and that woman is his only love.

The fact that he was saying that he will reject my sister in front of me without any hesitation was already getting on my nerves. But apart from that, his scent was bugging me. It seemed very familiar to me.

Yes I know I have met him many times in past. Even recently in red shadow pack I met him, so it was quite common for me to feel that his scent was familiar.

But it felt like I have smelled this scent somewhere, where I won’t like it to be. But I was not able to pin point it. Even Aiden was trying to remember from where we remember this scent.

And suddenly I scented Hazel. She was making her way towards living room. Instead of feeling relaxed like I have been feeling for past two days whenever she is around, Aiden became even more restless.

I decided to focus on the conversation with Alpha Darren. I was about to ask him about the woman who he claims to be in love with, when I saw him looking behind me.

In a second his expressions changed. He looked surprised but his eyes turned a lot more softer when he whispered under his breath, ‘Hazel’.

My blood started boiling as my fists balled on my knees, my jaw clenched tight when I remembered where I had got the whiff of Alpha Darren’s scent.

It’s the scent I got on Hazel’s body when I met her for the first time.

So he was the other guy apart from Mason, who touched her.

And she let him.
