“Hey does this scar turn you off if you are a guy?” Taylor asked when we were in the locker room after training. She showed me a small scar on her waist but it honestly just looks like a dot to me and it is a healing wound. It would be gone before she finds a new boyfriend.
“…” I just looked at her and grabbed my towel to get into the shower.
“What?”
Ever since that incident a year ago, Taylor and I seemed to have formed an unlikely friendship. She started talking to me more and pulling me somewhere with her friends. Although, I am still not really that comfortable with this situation, I have gotten used to it. The Luna seems to be happy for me, more than happy actually, she hangs out with us more often than necessary because she thinks it’s fun to do whatever it is that people my age do.
“Good job on the training today girls! Keep it up.” Captain Rico greeted when we came out of the locker room.
“Captain, please don’t tell me that you were waiting outside the girl’s locker room like a stalker or a peeping tom.” One of the girls joked and they laughed. I did not actually found it funny but I smiled.
“I will give you a comeback during training on Monday but for now, I need to talk to Abigail.” The captain said with a small glint in his eyes.
“Oops, I think you will need extra energy on Monday for the captain’s comeback.” Taylor said to the girl who spoke and the rest of the girls snickered. I tried my best to make my expression fit in but I am focused on what the Captain could be seeking me for.
“I will see you guys when I see you.” I said when everyone has settled.
“That would be Sunday for brunch.” Taylor said but took a peek at the captain. “If you are free that is.”
“I will text you.” I said and the girls left.
I followed Captain Rico to his office and Miss Gigi, the second in command, was waiting for us and it confirmed my suspicion that this is a serious matter. A month after I first started my training, I was assigned to a team of seniors that was led by Miss Gigi at that time. The assignment was simple and safe enough for me to go as a rookie and basically as an observant but things did not go as planned. The team was just supposed to catch rogues on the act of supposedly selling and trading some illegal stuff including drugs but when we got to the hotel where the transaction was said to be happening, we saw something worse. In the ballroom of the hotel, an auction was happening and physical items are not being auctioned. Instead, human girls of all ages were being shown on stage either naked or barely clothed and there were also boys but they were all still young, young enough to be still considered as a toddler. It was unexpected and horrible. In the end, I did not become an observer because the rogues were higher in number than expected and my experience, coupled with the trainings that I received, made me unexpectedly strong at direct combat. The case was handed over to the human authorities for the children and women to be returned safely to their homes but not before Miss Gigi and her team “interviewed” the rogues. The following missions that I joined in were either related to that case or not but one thing is that, Captain Rico and Miss Gigi always update me on the case on tracking down the rogues responsible for the trafficking.
“We have the Alpha and Luna’s approvable that we can take you to our next mission but it is not a biggie since we will just be tracking down some patterns and routes that those rogues are possibly taking. Take it like a joy ride to the next town and back.” Miss Gigi said. I am still underage so the Alpha and the Luna are basically my guardians just like the other kids at the pack house who are orphans like me.
“However, this will be your last mission for a while since you will start a different training starting on Wednesday.” Captain Rico interjected and Miss Gigi looked at him then at me.
“I expressed my desire to become an assassin but please do not misunderstand, I do not have any problems with team missions and assignments. I just know myself and I think I work better alone.” I explained to Miss Gigi and she nodded.
“Yes, I think so too.” She agreed and the rest of the conversation went back to the rogues.
The small meeting did not last long and I was on my way home after a while. Walking home, deep in thoughts, I almost ran into someone on the sidewalk. I slapped myself mentally because it is frustrating. I’ve been training to be completely focused or be more aware of my surroundings than normal but I cannot seem to achieve it…yet and besides, it comes useful when I’m walking without my mind on what is in front of me.
“Miss?” Oh right, I forgot I almost bumped into someone. I looked up, blue eyes and blonde hair.
“I’m sorry, I was not looking.” I stepped back.
“No worries.” He winked. “But actually, I am kind of lost. Can you help me?”
“Sure.” Teachers in school and trainers in our training are always saying things about not trusting strangers specially people who are only using directions to cover their ulterior motive but this guy feels familiar not in the sense that I met him before but just familiar.
“I’m trying to get to the house of David and Elizabeth Gregory but I am not sure if I am on the right path.”
“Oh you are but there is a fork up ahead so you might get confused. I am going to the same direction.” I said and started walking as I said so. He walked beside me.
“Thanks, you are a life saver.”
“I live not that far from them.” I could not actually directly tell him that they are my Alpha and Luna. He could be human or an enemy.
“Not far from them? The big building?” I nodded. “Oh then you live in the pack house?”
“Are you a werewolf?” I could not help asking since he mentioned the pack house.
“Yes but I haven’t shifted yet. I belong to the Silverpaw pack, I am visiting your Luna with my mother and aunt.” I’d say he is naïve for revealing too much.
“Oh.” I just answered even though I also want to say that I am a werewolf but I think that is pretty obvious already.
“Anyways, you actually kind of look familiar. Have we met before?” Taylor says boys use this line to pick up girls but if I felt the same then it is not considered flirting right?
“I feel the same-“ Something came to mind, a fleeting memory. “Actually, yes. I remember. I returned the ribbon to you or to a boy who looks like a young version of you.”
“Oh the girl at the diner.” He said after thinking and he laughed. “What a coincidence!”
“How strange.” I commented.
“Maybe we are just bound to meet all the time. My aunts believe in fate, this could be fate.” He said and laughed again. He is a cheerful boy.
“You can follow this path until you see the cottage by the lake. It is the only house there so I do not think you will miss it.” I instructed when we were in front of the pack house.
“Thank you. I hope to see you more in the future.” He said as he walked backwards to the direction I pointed and I just watched him go. Maybe we will meet again in the future because there is really something about him.
