I smiled and admired my masterpiece. The blocks had completely been broken and in a perfect two at that. It is almost the middle of the night but my excitement could not let me sleep so I came here to the training hall. Earlier today, just this afternoon, I became officially a member of the Elite and my status is an assassin. Years of training paid well as I am genuinely happy to be a part of the Elite. Taylor and the others has been already official member months ago but being an assassin is a different case. I am aware of what I decided on and I am aware that no one would have my back during missions unless the mission is only nearby but I am more than okay with it. I just know that I work better alone.
“Abby? It is so late, what are you doing here?” I heard the Luna’s voice and turned around to see her approaching me.
“I could not sleep.”
“Ooh, excited?” I nodded and she laughed. “I know that feeling.”
“What are you doing here Luna?” I could not help asking when I saw her outfit, she’s in her pajamas.
“David and I had a fight so I came out for a walk. I heard something here and saw the lights on when I passed by so I came to check.”
“Luna you should be cautious. It could have been a burglar or someone dangerous.” The Luna just laughed.
“Now you are really sounding like a member of the Elite.” She ruffled my hair. “Don’t worry, I am stronger than I look.”
“Are you going to wait for the Alpha?” I asked when she sat down on one of the training equipment to watch me stretch. I need to stretch before I can call it a night since I did something heavy.
“Why did you assume that?”
“The Alpha always apologizes when you quarrel.” I said and she giggled.
“Well, this time I admit that I started the fight but I enjoy watching him get frustrated and swallowing his pride to apologize. Sadistic but I will apologize later.” The Luna said with a smile that she only has when she talks about the Alpha.
“You are not afraid that he will get tired? Some of the girl’s love life in school is complicated that I get confused by it.”
“Even if he gets tired, he is my mate and husband. He is stuck with me but he is a good man.” The Luna said and became silent for a while. “We never really talked about this, haven’t we?”
“Talk about what?”
“Love life, boyfriends or love.” I paused in confusion.
“Why? Do we have to?”
“It is what girl’s do and besides I think I have the responsibility to give you advices on such things as the “mother” figure in your life.”
My heart jumped when the Luna said “mother” figure. In context, she is right. In this world, the Luna and the Alpha are the ones who took care of me the most, they are considered my parents but hearing it directly from the Luna is somewhat an embarrassing-like feeling.
“Oh you paused, do you have someone you like?” The Luna teased.
“No, I just thought of something.” I said and she shook her head.
“Sometimes, it is worrying how your mind wanders off.” She said. “Anyways, tell me when you meet someone you like and I will give some advices on how to catch him.”
“You mean my mate?”
“Well, him too.” The Luna winked and I did not get what she meant. “David is near so I’ll see you tomorrow. Do not stay up so late.”
The Luna sauntered off. I never really thought about my mate or love. However, I could see it all around me and it is sometimes messy and sometimes good to watch. It is just not really something I thought I will have. I wonder though if what I feel for the Alpha and Luna is considered love or is it just pure respect and being indebted? Whatever, the case is, I might not avoid meeting my mate but I will face the problem when it comes because right now, I will focus on being an assassin. I have worked hard for this and I will enjoy it.
“Bad news.” Captain Rico said when I met him on his way to his office. “Follow me.”
“What is it?” I asked when we were in his office.
“Those rogues had managed to get past us and took 3 or more of our children. We do not know, we are still checking and counting the children.” My heart dropped at the news.
“Do we have at least a lead captain?”
“We had been monitoring a certain town these few weeks and we have suspicions. We are cooperating with the pack of that town and they are a powerful pack so we have nothing to worry about. However, we would be much more relieved if there will be someone from our side for monitoring.”
“But we are not sure if the children were taken there?” I clarified.
“Yes but the biggest possibility is there. We had a meeting yesterday and we thought you’d be the best candidate to send there.”
“I have no objections captain but why me? I just started.” I voiced out my concern.
“Just started? Abigail, you have been with us throughout this case and you know the situation as much as we do. You cannot be considered a rookie in this aspect or topic.” Captain Rico said and I felt a bit flattered.
“If you say so captain.”
“The school has recently launched an exchange student program, you will apply for it and we will ask the principal to send you to that town. We will brief you again once everything is ready.” Captain Rico concluded and I walked slowly home, deep in thought.
I did not sleep well after what I found out from Captain Rico. He is right, this mission is not a first because I had been with them on the frontline for a few times. It means that I can do this, there is no need for the insecurities. Despite all my courage talks, I reluctantly filled up the form for the exchange student program. After school, I went home to plan what I should pack and then headed to the training ground when my insides would not come down. The exercise surprisingly helped me calm down.
“Well, this is it.” The Luna said when the taxi parked in front of us. The driver came down to fix my bags on the trunk.
“I will come back.” I said when I saw the Luna tearing up. She tends to be a bit dramatic, even the Alpha gave me an apologetic stare.
“It’s just…It’s the first time that you are going to be away for a long time. I will miss you.” She said and I just sighed and hugged her.
