CHAPTER 2 – A DECISION

1476 Words
“Oh wow!” Luna Elizabeth suddenly exclaimed when we were in the middle of eating. I looked up and saw her staring out the window happily. I looked out the window but I could not pinpoint what made her exclaim out. “I will be right back. Stay here and finish your food.”                 The Luna went out of the diner and I saw her cross the street towards the parking lot of the park. She waved at a man and a female child around my age and they hugged when she got to them. I can tell that they are not from around here but I only watched for a minute before turning back to my food. A moment later, someone suddenly approached me and I looked up to see a boy at my age. He has a blonde hair and sky blue eyes, an attractive boy. “Hey do you have a change?” He asked as he showed me a bill. “The vending machine does not accept this bill.” “Sorry, I have none.” I said and he just shrugged and thanked me before he pocketed his money and walked away.                 I looked at his back for some time and noticed a violet ribbon falling out of his pocket when he removed his hand from his pocket. No one else noticed so I got out of the booth and went to pick the ribbon. I managed to catch the boy outside the diner. “You dropped this.” I handed the ribbon back to him and he took it. He smiled. “Thanks. I hid this from my twin sister.” He said as he winked and extended his hand to me. “I’m Zane.” “Abigail.” I said and shook his hand. “It was nice meeting you Abigail. Thanks for the ribbon.” He said and walked away once more. I did not stare this time and walked back inside.                 A while later, the Luna came back and I can tell that meeting those people made her extra happy. She told me they were her relatives but did not say anything else about them and I was not interested enough to ask. I never really take interest in other people’s life so sometimes I only know them by name, appearance and some characteristics that I observe myself. “Luna, I want to join the Elite.” I blurted out when we were in the car drive home. “What?” She asked after a couple of seconds. “I want to join the Elite.” I said again and she stopped the car on the side and faced me. “Are you sure?” She asked with a worried face. “This is not a phase is it?” “I am sure. I have been watching them and I have been thinking about it for months, I want to join them.” “The Elite…” “My personality is compatible with them and this is my way of repaying the pack’s kindness, for you and the Alpha.” I explained further and she shook her head. “Abby, we do not need you to repay what we gave on our own accord. The Elite is somewhere you would risk your life.” “It is what I want.” The Luna sighed. “The first time you finally say something you want and this is what I hear. Can you not wait until you get older and make the decision again?” The Elite group has no age requirement. I just looked at the Luna. “No?” “No.” The Luna sighed again before she continued driving. “Well, you have to talk to the Alpha about this. I am reluctantly supporting you so I will not persuade him if he refuses.” Luna Elizabeth said after a while and I nodded. I’m just glad she did not really talk me out of it, the Luna might not notice but she has a talent of persuading people.                 The Luna dropped me at the entrance of the pack house and drove home. She and the Alpha live on a cottage by the lake not far from the pack house. Today is a Monday so only a few people are hanging out by the lawn and the surrounding looks so serene with the forest slightly blending with the garden of the pack house. I did not meet anyone on the hallways as I ascended to my room but the quietness could let me hear some of the activities in the rooms as I pass by. This is just a normal afternoon in the pack house but usually at this time, I’d be in my room reading or doing my assignments, sometimes I’d even be sleeping.  This is peace and the pack is good at keeping it this way. “Abby?” Someone called when I was on my way back to my room after dinner. I turned around and saw the Alpha. “Alpha.” I greeted as I turned my whole body to face him. “Will you walk with me? The night air seems pleasant today.” He said. The Alpha is someone who has what they call a beauty inside and out. He has a handsome and gentle face that makes everyone relax around him but he should not be underestimated when he is angry. “Yes Alpha.”                 The garden is Mama Willa’s masterpiece. Small trees and flowers are planted and arranged beautifully on the large plot of land and there is a fountain hidden in the center. At the end of the garden where the garden meets the forest is a small shack where clothes are stored. This is where the pack changes when they go for a run in their wolf form. “My wife reported something interesting earlier when I arrived home.” The Alpha started as we found the fountain and stood there watching the water. “If you feel like repaying whatever it is that you think you should repay, there are many ways to do that and joining the Elite is just one of them.” “I want to join them Alpha.” “Aside from what you told Eliza, what else is in your mind?” I stayed silent for a while and the Alpha waited patiently. “Every day when I get home from school, I would do my homework and if I have no homework, I would find a book to read or sometimes I would just sleep. I will have dinner, sleep for the night, wake up in the morning and go to school. At weekends, I need to find something to do because I do not want to do something with a group of people because I am scared of myself and of them. Mama Willa spoils me too much and would only give me minor chores.” “In other words, you are bored.” The Alpha concluded. “Maybe, I do not know.” I confessed. “Eliza knows you better than you think Abby.” The Alpha said suddenly and I looked at him. He smiled. “You do not know why you want to join the Elite but she does. She told me that you have been high on Adrenaline since the day you were born. Fighting and survival is in your blood and this peaceful life makes you uncomfortable. Is she right?” “Yes, I think so. It is funny because it is somehow contradicting to what I wanted. I wished for a normal life ever since I was old enough to think.” I said out loud. No one can really deny that the only people whom I can really talk to are only the Alpha and the Luna. The Alpha patted my head. “Sometimes what you wish for is a wish that you do not wish to be fulfilled yet. There will be a time when that wish will come and you will know that it is the normal life that you want. For now, I guess you are not yet ready to settle down.” The Alpha said as he started walking again and I followed. “Then is it a yes then? Do I have your permission Alpha?” He laughed. “Eliza actually wanted me to try and dissuade you.” He said. “But let us say that I did try. I will talk to the Elite Captain tomorrow and get his opinion. He will personally seek you later on if he agrees.” “Thank you Alpha.” He chuckled and we walked back to the pack house.
