The pain was the first thing Darnell felt when he came to his senses. It was tearing apart every inch of his body, being especially concentrated in his chest. Darnell jerked his hand and pulled the knife out, feeling the metal leave the wound. The pierced heart began to beat again, filling his lungs with blood, and Darnell got to all fours, coughing violently, trying to clear the clogged airways. Streams of blood flowed onto his face, and it seemed to the man that someone was cutting his forehead with a sharp knife in two places at once. Gasping with panic and fear, he began to wipe the blood pouring from his face and eyes and pressed his hand to his forehead.
