Noris Carswell's POV
The woman was tied to a rather comfy chair in Quinn's office, Evan and I seated opposite her with a rather relaxed expression. Quinn on the other hand was trying his best to remain straight-faced but...His rage was evident. Of course, it would be. These traitors had been the reason his son was dead and his wife spiralled into depression. They were also the reason the couple had given up on having children, believing themselves to be cursed by the Moon Goddess. Only to find out they wrongly blamed Selene and begged for her forgiveness, swearing to make the traitors pay.
"So you're the one that poisoned my Beta. My own pack member, a traitor. Causing harm to her Beta. I can hardly believe it. In fact, I don't think I would have if it weren't for the eyes of Theia." the last part was said in passing, moreso to Evan and Quinn. However, when I mentioned Ere's eyes, the woman stiffened and we all looked at her with a frown "She knows what we're talking about, Noris. So she probably knows who Erebus and Aradia are" Evan nudged me and I nodded. The woman gritted her teeth and started to yell, practically spitting venom at us "And so what? Who gave those two bastards the right to be special?! What about the rest of us?! They deserve all that they're about to get!" She cackled, obviously knowing more than we thought. But what was obvious was, this woman was jealous that she wasn't special. It was understandable, Dia and Ere had the luck of the draw. Just like I was lucky to be born an Alpha's child. In most packs, Omega wolves were treated less than dirt. But here and in some other packs, we treated everyone equally. So why?
"Watch your mouth, those are my children" Quinn growled fiercely, a scared shiver running down the woman's spine. "T-They weren't supposed to be! The boy was supposed to be dead already and the girl was supposed to die on her eighth birthday. Curse those bastards in the dungeon that helped her. Their luck is really too much...And besides, Lily was supposed to be crazy already, trying to kill herself while you writhed in agony at your wife's pain and attempts at suicide. We tried so hard to prevent Selene from getting her way!" Even rolled his eyes "Yeah yeah, Lily's poison is gone already, we destroyed your worms in that little vial and Lily and Quinn are just fine - More than, actually. They're parents now and the twins have too many protectors for you and whoever you work for to get to them, so what's next?"
Even looked bored. Well, I don't blame him. We all expected this. "What? Do you think that's it? You're mistaken, Gamma. The next step in our plan is to pick off their protectors one by one. Why do you think those six were in the dungeons, to begin with? We were going to kill the twins in front of them before they even had the chance to become protectors. When we're done with them, we're going to pick off their self-proclaimed family and then their actual family until there's no one left. Who will protect those weak kids then?" She sneered. It was almost like she forgot just who the hell she was in a room with. At the same time, all of us unleashed our feral aura, our wolves sick and tired of hearing the s**t coming from this woman's mouth. We watched as she gasped and wheezed, trying to breathe but failing. Her eyes were almost leaking out of her skull as we applied more pressure until finally...She was dead. All the air in her lungs had been squeezed out like a vacuum. Now, the truth would never come to light.
Quinn was even more outraged than when we began and I sighed "Both of you, gather everyone and meet in the conference room. Get the ones that are outside of the pack on video call. We need to have a discussion. In the meantime...I have a few phone calls to make" Evan and Quinn nodded, excusing themselves from the room. I mindlinked a few warriors to ask them to very discretely burn this body, making sure not a single soul saw. I stood, deeply inhaling, holding for a few seconds and then exhaling before I walked in strides from Quinn's office to mine.
I threw myself behind my desk and began dialling. The first on my list to call was the Fae. They were much easier to get along with than most races and I was quite good friends with a man of the race when I was younger and helped him during a rogue attack. I flipped through my phone and got his number, beating it into the pad of the phone on my desk. It rang...rang...I was sure he wasn't going to answer. But on the fifth ring, he picked up, giving a confused hello. "Ah, forgive me. Is this Ulrian?" there was a pause and I dreaded that I had the wrong number. "OH! Are you the young lad who fought with me a few years ago?" relief washed over me. Thank the Goddess I had the right number. "Yes! It's me, Noris! It's so good to know I have the right number. I wanted to ask a favour".
"Likewise, thank you again for your help back then. I'd certainly have died if not for your help. What is the favour? I'll try my best." Truthfully, my feet were tapping against the floor with anxiety a little. I opened my mouth to speak but then closed it. I didn't want to sound cheeky, but there was no other way. "I need to speak to your King and Queen. Before you say anything, please hear me out. Two weeks ago, two children found their way to my pack. Now, after tedious research and first-hand experience, we're certain that these children are the reincarnation of the God Hodr and the Goddess Artemis, younger twin siblings of Selene and Apollo. My Beta couple adopted them and they've been doing well. But the boy was unconscious until today. When the girl woke two weeks ago in the hospital, she used magic. It's already confirmed that the children are wolves, but the girl definitely has her own magic, the High Priestess of the Gaia Coven confirmed it. Her theory is that considering their Godhood, they may have more than one or two bloodlines. As you're aware, we all stem from the Gods. They are our creators. That is why she came up with such a theory and the Elder of Blue Grove Coven, Jaxon, suggested we get in touch with other races to verify. Hence, I wish to speak to your King and Queen."
Silence. Goddess, I've gone and done it. I've blown it and now we'll never be able to know. "Hahah! Is that all? My cousin is the Queen, so that's no problem. I'm on my way to see them right now actually. So give me ten minutes and I'll call you back. I'll explain the situation beforehand so that you don't need to repeat yourself." Goddess, thank you! I thanked the man and we said our goodbyes. While I was waiting for his call, I thought of a way to contact other races. The only numbers I had on my phone were the King of the Dwarves and Queen of the Vampires. We attended one of the Queen's events once and given that our pack has an emerald mine, the King of the Dwarves struck a deal with me over it, hence why I have his number. I decided I'd call Queen Claudia next and King Nakkel afterwards. But first, came my call with the Fae Royals.
The phone rang and for a second, I hesitated to pick it up. When I did, Ulrian's loud and cheerful voice greeted me. "Noris! You're on loudspeaker. I explained the situation to my cousin and the King. They understand and they're sitting across from me. I'll put the phone on the table, hold on." I heard what sounded like the phone being placed on the table and then a very sweet, feminine voice "Hello? You are Noris, correct? The man who saved my cousin?" I smiled gleefully, finally! "Yes! Greetings. I assume you are Queen Islara?" I heard a giggle, probably the Queen laughing at how eager I sounded. "That's right. It's nice to meet you. I appreciate what you did for my cousin, he's the only family I have left in my maternal and paternal family. But on a very serious note, my husband and I are very interested in those children. The Fae have a legend that relates to our twin creators. Here, I'll let my husband tell you" I was shocked for a moment honestly. Twins, again! This honestly sounded promising even though I had yet to hear the story. A gruff throat-clearing came to interrupt my thoughts "Greetings. I am King Quill, It's nice to meet you, Alpha Noris. The Fae have a legend of twin creators. You may or may not know, but the Fae are split between light and dark Fae. My wife is light Fae, whereas I am dark Fae. We have twin daughters, Danisla, who takes after her mother, is the firstborn who will take my throne. She will have the responsibility of marrying a dark Fae in the future to keep the balance. It wasn't always like this. The Fae are cursed. In the beginning, our creators were twins - an older sister with the light affinity and a younger brother with the dark affinity. They ruled side by side and they had planned to have their children rule together too. The sister was planning to marry a man with a dark affinity, while the brother was already engaged to a woman with an affinity for the light. The brother married a year later and had a son with a dark affinity. However...The sister's fiance grew increasingly power-hungry. He staged a coup and killed the sister who trusted him wholeheartedly. Next, he killed the brother's wife and attempted to kill the brother's son, but the Fae who were outraged by the sister's death rallied and killed the dark Fae. The brother was so overcome with grief at the loss of his twin that when his son turned fifteen, he passed on his throne as well as a letter and took his own life to join his sister. The letter read 'I do not wish to condemn the dark Fae for the actions of one man. However, I leave behind what I do wish for. Since my son is a dark Fae, I wish for him to marry a light Fae. If their child, be they male or female, is light Fae, they should marry a dark Fae. My wish is for my descendants to forever bridge the gap between light and dark...If you break this gap and go against my wishes, I have set a curse in place that will swallow the Fae whole'. And with that, the Fae were too scared to test the previous King's words."
The story gripped me tightly. It was so interesting to hear of a different species' origins. I was grateful that they were even willing to tell me - They had no proof that what I was saying was the truth or a lie. "I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your creators...Corruption and greed linger everywhere, it's truly a shame. Especially when we have so many good people such as yourselves and Ulrian. I'm currently dealing with traitors and corruption in my pack myself. The woman we captured earlier is obviously working for someone else. That doesn't excuse her crimes, however - Poisoning my Beta, causing her son's death and preventing her from conceiving. The twins have really brightened up the lives of my Beta couple and I'm so grateful for them. I really appreciate you both taking the time to speak to me when I haven't even given you a shred of proof".
"We appreciate that. We're sorry to hear about the happenings of your pack. You're right, corruption and greed linger no matter what. Even when we try to root it out, it just pops up somewhere else. It really puts light and dark into perspective in a different way. Regarding proof..."
