CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT “Chris!” Madeleine cried. “They’re getting away! Come on!” But Chris could hardly hear her. He was standing over the body of the boy he’d blasted with his acidic jet of green. Though the boy’s eyes were open, the light had gone from behind them. The boy was dead. And Chris had killed him. The feeling was overwhelming. Chris felt lost in the moment. He’d never actually killed anyone before. And though he’d been training to kill Oliver, it still felt like he’d crossed an invisible line. He didn’t know how to feel about it.
