Chapter 2 Wednesday, March 28, 2007 The moment I left Khalid’s office, I decided that a visit to my friend Suleiman and his wife Samar was in order. Suleiman was a businessman who owned numerous companies and Samar was a bank manager. They certainly knew Khalid, so they might be able to help me decide what to do. I thought I might also call my friend the novelist Ismail Fahad Ismail to ask his opinion, too. I had serious reservations. This wasn’t really my way of writing – to be employed by a businessman to write what he wanted me to write. My phone had been on silent mode during the meeting but I saw that Shoroq had called me three times. I reached my car. It had never crossed my mind that I would write a novel about a businessman and be paid by him. It would mark a sharp departure
