The Alpha’s Return

776 Words
The SUV tore through the heavy rain, the tires kicking up mud as we hit the gravel of the Blood Moon territory. The air inside the car felt electric, charged with the familiar, suffocating scent of the pack. "My pack will be waiting," Caleb said, his voice hard as iron. He wasn't looking at me; he was looking at the road ahead, his posture lethal. "They’ll see you. They’ll see him." I clutched Leo to my chest, my knuckles white. "And what? They’ll realize their Alpha brought back the 'human trash' he threw away five years ago? This is a disaster, Caleb." "They won't dare speak a word," Caleb snapped, finally turning his head. His eyes flared, a flash of predatory gold in the dim light. "They fear me, Maya. And they will learn to respect what is mine." "I am not 'yours' like some shiny new toy," I retorted, my voice trembling but sharp. "I’m a person. And Leo is an innocent child. If you think I’m going to sit back and watch them look down on us" "They won't," he growled. The car lurched to a stop. We were at the gates. Two massive guards stood in the rain, their forms hulking and terrifying even in the dark. Marcus, the Beta, stepped up to the window. His eyes swept the car, his expression shifting from professional duty to pure shock the moment he saw me. "Alpha," Marcus dipped his head, then froze, staring at Leo in my lap. He sniffed the air, his eyes widening. "And... the boy?" Caleb rolled the window down, the cold rain spraying inside. "Move, Marcus." "Alpha, wait," Marcus stammered, glancing between Caleb and me. "The elders... they’ve been waiting for an update. Bringing her back here" Caleb’s hand slammed against the console. The sound was like a gunshot in the confined space. "Did I ask for your opinion, Marcus?" Caleb’s voice was deathly quiet, yet it carried a weight that made Marcus stumble back a step. "Or did I ask you to open the gates?" Marcus paled. "My apologies, Alpha." He barked a command to the other guard. The heavy iron gates groaned, swinging open with a screech of metal. As the SUV crawled forward toward the massive, dimly lit packhouse, I looked at Caleb. "You realize you just made us enemies, right? You didn't even tell them about him." Caleb leaned over, his hand brushing my cheek, his touch possessive and burning. "Let them hate. Let them whisper. The moment they smell his blood, they’ll know who the future Alpha is. And that, Maya, will change everything." My stomach dropped. I hadn't just walked into a reunion; I had walked into a lion's den. The SUV stopped in front of the looming steps of the packhouse. Dozens of people were standing on the porch warriors, pack members, servants all staring at the lead car with a mix of curiosity and fear. Caleb stepped out, his presence instantly silencing the crowd. He walked around to my door and pulled it open, the rain drumming loudly against the roof. "Don't hide him," Caleb murmured, glancing at Leo. "Let them see." I stepped out, my boots sinking into the mud. The silence was absolute. Every eye was fixed on me, then on Leo, who peeked out from behind my neck. An older woman, one of the pack elders, pushed through the crowd. Her eyes were sharp, scanning me with undisguised contempt. "You," she spat, her voice raspy. "You have no business here, half-blood. The Alpha made his choice five years ago." I felt Caleb tense beside me, a low, rumbling growl building in his chest that promised violence. But before he could rip her head off, I stepped forward. I was terrified, but I wasn't the weak girl from five years ago. "I’m not here for you," I said, my voice cutting through the rain like a blade. "I’m here for my son. And if anyone has a problem with that, they can take it up with him." I pointed at Caleb. The elder sneered. "And who is the boy's father?" Caleb stepped up behind me, placing a massive hand on the small of my back, his touch branding me for everyone to see. He looked at the elder, his eyes glowing with terrifying, absolute power. "He is the heir to the Blood Moon Pack," Caleb announced, his voice booming across the courtyard. "And anyone who disrespects him... disrespects me. And we all know the penalty for that." The silence that followed was suffocating. Everyone dropped their gaze. They weren't just looking at me anymore; they were looking at the future.
