Reassurance

I could feel my lungs tightening as I fought to catch my breath. My legs shook, muscles screaming as I dashed away from the maniacs. I kept my gaze fixed on my path, ignoring the s****l, derisive jeers echoing behind me. “Help me!” “We just want to play!” Their sniggers echoed off the dark road. Surely someone heard us! Was the neighborhood deaf? I had been frantically screaming for help until my voice gave out. I was exhausted, weak, battered—all I wanted was to collapse onto my bed. I didn’t know where I was going. Every few steps, I stumbled, panicking as I tried to regain my footing, my legs like dead weight. I glanced over my shoulder; they were gaining on me. Looking forward, I tried to trick them by abruptly turning into a narrow alleyway. I hugged the walls, pushing myself forward, desperate to escape their hawking gaze. “N-No…” This couldn't be happening! My frantic run slammed to a stop as I was confronted by a towering brick wall, blocking any further escape. I nearly cried in sheer panic, frantically scanning my surroundings. I heard their cackles screaming closer. They were coming for me. I jumped, trying to reach the top of the wall, but I only ended up hurting myself, misjudging the leap and landing hard on my backside. I cursed under my breath, massaging my foot. I might have broken my ankle. “There she is!” I panted, seeing them emerge into the alley. I attempted to get up and look for something—anything—to help me escape, but before I could, a hand clamped down on my arm and yanked me toward him. I struggled, kicking and punching, but the stranger was a strong man. He didn't even flinch when I repeatedly struck his shoulder. They looked at each other and let out a thunderous burst of laughter. My fist froze mid-air, my vision blurring with tears. “You know what?” Before I could even process the words, he shoved me against the thick wall, my head slamming into the brick. A rush of searing pain shot through my entire system. I couldn’t move. Fright, emotion, and uncertainty paralyzed me on the spot. Ever since Ethan showed up in my life, it had been a succession of disasters. I thought my life would be easy once he was gone, but I was wrong. He must have cursed me! All these misfortunes couldn't be spontaneous. Could they? Or was I just denying the truth—that I was the cursed one? That I shouldn't exist? That my life would have been so much easier if Ethan had succeeded in killing me? I looked at the group of psychotic men in front of me. My hearing started to grow fuzzy, and my eyes couldn't hold out any longer. They gripped my shoulders, forcing me to kneel. I didn't understand why they were doing this. Why had the world become so cruel? What happened to humanity? “You’re going to enjoy this.” I heard the sound of unbuckling belts. I closed my eyes and felt the blood rushing through my body. Suddenly, time slowed. The crushing weight on my heart lifted for a moment. I braced myself for what was to come. A montage of my memories with Nathan played in my mind, a fast-moving clip. We were happy, seemingly without a care in the world. We enjoyed our lives. We were satisfied with each other, loving each other. That was the life I wanted. But it had vanished the moment Ethan appeared. His eyes blazed, his fangs dripped with bloodlust, and his claws were razor-sharp. His bloodshot gaze locked onto mine, and that’s when he attacked. He tore my world apart. I watched him laugh wickedly, standing there in a void, numb and unsure what to feel anymore. I was crying, yet my face showed no emotion. I was numb, weak, pathetic… That's what he wanted. To see me suffer. To fall apart. To become powerless. “Natasha.” I froze when I heard that familiar tone. My lips parted. Before me, the three men lay on the ground, their eyes wide with fear as they stared, unblinking. I was the only one who could still move. How? How did he get here? Why didn't I hear him? Was I so lost in my thoughts that I forgot I was being harassed? I looked at him. His eyes were cold, sending a chill down my spine. “Ethan.” I swallowed hard as he observed my state. He placed a finger on my lips and caressed them lightly. He brought it to his own mouth, licked his thumb—his fangs slightly showing, his tongue unsettlingly long. We stayed in that position for what felt like minutes, just absorbing each other’s presence. Then he held me by the waist and carefully lifted me. My lips parted as I wrapped my arms around his neck, afraid to fall. But he secured my body and walked away, not saying a word. I could hear his sharp intakes of breath as he strode along the sidewalk. I glanced at his profile: an aquiline nose, naturally appealing, enticing lips—inviting me to taste them. I shook my head, grimacing. Why was I thinking like this? Especially about Ethan? He was a serial killer. He could kill me at any moment. He only saved me from those men because, in his twisted mind, he reserved that honor for himself. When we reached Nathan’s house, he kicked the door open and carried me into his brother's room. I felt the soft mattress beneath my back. I stared at his face, which didn't bother to meet my eyes. He turned to leave, but before he could, I grabbed his hand. He stiffened, then slowly glanced back over his shoulder. “I-I’m s-sorry…” I looked down, biting my bottom lip to quell the uneasiness. I didn’t know why I stopped him. The thought of him leaving suddenly scared me, despite how dangerous he was. He didn’t utter a single word, just watched me from under his lashes. Every second that turned into a minute intensified my heartbeat. I needed him to say something. The suffocating silence was unsettling. “You’re my toy.” I looked up as he leveled his face with mine. His lips curved into a self-satisfied smirk. He played with my hair. I silently gulped as he lowered his face until our lips were nearly touching. I could smell his appealing masculine scent, making my stomach do a somersault. “And I don’t like sharing my toy with anyone,” he murmured darkly on my lips, then his hand suddenly shot out and choked me. I gasped in shock, trying to pry his fingers away. “I put effort into saving you, again,” he growled. He teasingly sucked on the delicate part of my jaw before releasing me. I gasped for air, scrambling backward on the bed. “Strip,” his voice was laced with authority, a command I felt compelled to follow. He turned away and left me on the bed, reeling from what had just happened. I shouldn’t have expected anything from him. After all, his scheme was to kill me. He was torturing me first, slowly but surely. Once he was done playing, he would unleash his full beast and destroy me. The sound of splashing water reached my ears. While he was in the shower, I gazed down at my own body. Why did I ever expect him to change or show mercy? I needed to get a grip on reality. I was demoralized, shrinking into myself. I had hoped for the impossible. Why did I long for a change in him? It would never happen. Not in a million years. The bathroom door opened, and he walked out, n***d. I was not unfamiliar with his body. Yet, I still couldn't stop staring, marveling at his chiseled physique. He truly was a work of art. “Spread your legs, wide enough for me to go inside and f**k you to death.” He moved on top of me. When I complied, he wasted no time. He pushed inside, taking a deep, long thrust before pulling my legs closer and quickening his pace. He didn't like slow. He preferred rough s*x that would drain my energy and leave me begging for him to stop. I noticed, looking into his eyes as he ravaged me, that he was intently examining my body. As if he owned it. --- “Natasha.” Walking across the school grounds, he wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me close as we headed toward class. I gaped at him; he kept his attention on the path ahead. Students rustled, making us the center of attention. I knew some were shocked to see Ethan—whom they knew as Nathan—back after vanishing for days. Now that he was here, I saw Carl walk past us, quickening his pace, clearly afraid to approach me. “Y-Yes?” I always stuttered when I spoke to him. I felt him lean closer to my ear, making me shiver. He teasingly licked my earlobe before whispering, “Be a good girl for me. Try not to talk to others.” He bit my ear gently before letting go. He tapped my butt slightly, motioning for me to continue walking. “Or I’ll hunt them.”
