I glanced at Ethan, who fell asleep crying in my arms. I had lost track of time; my arms were growing numb, cradling his head. I hesitated, then gently reached out to touch his hair, afraid the sensation might wake him. He didn't flinch. He slept soundly, seemingly at peace, the world held still around him. I smiled faintly, stroking his hair, cherishing his expression. My mind was still reeling with questions. Why the sudden breakdown, and why his desperate need for me not to leave?
