Dr. Alfred was already climbing out, all business. “Where’s the patient?” he asked, and that seemed to snap everyone back to the urgent reason we’d made this flight in the first place. Another woman nodded and gestured for him to follow, and they began to hurry across the clearing.   As Isaac and I climbed out after him, our legs shaking beneath us, the gray-haired woman approached us.   “I saw something,” she said, gripping my arm with enormous eyes. “When you were coming down, there was this… flash. Like a ball of golden light wrapped around the whole plane. But it happened so fast, I can’t be sure…”   My breath caught at that. Golden light.
