Chapter 17: Almost Knowing

465 Words
Elara’s days had grown restless. The thread connecting her to Lucien pulsed constantly, a subtle rhythm she couldn’t ignore. Every encounter, every glance, every brush of hands reminded her that their bond was more than coincidence—it was undeniable. Yet she still didn’t fully understand what it meant. Lucien appeared suddenly at the gallery, his presence filling the room before his voice reached her ears. “You’ve been avoiding the forest,” he said, a faint edge to his tone. “You cannot ignore what is part of you.” Elara swallowed, heart racing. “I… I don’t know how to handle it. The bond… it’s overwhelming.” He stepped closer, close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating from him, the magnetic pull of his Alpha aura. “Overwhelming?” he murmured, voice low and dangerous. “It’s natural. It exists to guide us, to connect us, to warn us. You can fight it, but it will not release you.” Her pulse throbbed. Every instinct screamed caution, yet a part of her longed to surrender to it, to let it guide her. “I feel it, Lucien. Every moment. And I… I don’t know what to do with it.” He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear with delicate precision, and his touch sent a shiver down her spine. “You do what you must, but know this—the bond is not only a warning. It is a promise. And it will not let you walk alone.” Elara’s chest tightened. The invisible thread vibrated fiercely, almost painfully. “But what if I fail? What if I—” “You will not fail,” he interrupted gently. “You have strength you don’t yet recognize. And the bond… it amplifies that strength. It guides you, even when you cannot see the path.” A sudden gust of wind stirred the gallery curtains, carrying with it the faint scent of the forest, the smell of pine and something more—wild, untamed, and primal. Elara inhaled sharply, realizing for the first time that the connection between them was more than emotional—it was physical, tangible, a part of her she couldn’t resist. Lucien’s eyes softened, though the silver-gray intensity never wavered. “Soon, you will understand,” he said. “Soon, the bond will make everything clear. And you will see why we cannot deny it, why you cannot deny me.” As Elara’s gaze met his, she felt a shiver of both fear and desire. The bond pulsed stronger than ever, and she knew one thing with absolute certainty: the moment she steps closer to Lucien, there will be no turning back—and secrets are waiting to be revealed that could change everything.
