Chapter 3

(Alexia POV) “Come home early! You need to set up your birthday party!” Mom shouted as I rolled my eyes. “It's my birthday. It should be a no work day. Besides aren’t you suppose to surprise me or something?” I shouted back grabbing an apple and walking out. “Would you rather have me set up a Cinderella theme?” she said as I stopped mid-way. “You wouldn’t,” I said turning to see my mother smirking in victory. “I would” she shrugs as I groan in frustration. Last year when I didn’t help in setting up the birthday theme she did a little mermaid theme.  Little Mermaid theme! Do you know how embarrassing it is when a 17-year-old future alpha’s birthday party was a little mermaid theme! I swear! My mother is sometimes such a devil in disguise.  She says I’m a future Alpha so I should not be spoon fed. Well, I completely agree with that, but at times it gets on my nerves. I can be very god damn lazy. “Fine. I’ll come home early” I said before walking out. “Remember not to invite that Owen boy. We have to complete the tradition” she shouted as I shouted back an "OK". “He wouldn’t come even if you did invite him” I grunted remembering the last dreading moments he had to face from my family. On the 18th birthday of an alpha, all of the unmated werewolf boys are invited. The invitation is even extended to the whole of the country packs. Do you know how many alphas’ 18th birthday party I had to attend? Countless! When the clock strikes the exact time you were born, you start to feel your mate, i.e. if he/she is at a reachable distance. And at midnight, whether you found your mate or not, you are supposed to go hunting alone and bring back meat for your family and mate(If you found them). As I reached my school, I parked my car in my usual spot and got out. I grabbed my things and started making my way to my locker. Along the way everyone wished me a birthday, some even presented me gifts. The school I’m going to, the River-dale high school, is an all werewolf high school. It’s posh and f*******n for a human, the main two reasons why Owen couldn’t join. After class, I made my way to my usual meeting place. 'I’m already here' Owen messaged me and I started to jog. I can’t wait to see him. “Boyfriend!” I shouted as I ran to him. “Girlfriend!” he shouted back as he hugged and spin me around. “I missed you,” I pouted smiling down at him. “Happy birthday, beautiful,” he said kissing my cheek. “Thank you, babe,” I replied before slamming my lips to his. “Hmm,” he hummed as we fought for dominance. We separated and I looked down at him daze. “My favorite taste. Alexia plus her usual strawberry lip balm” he said as I laughed and slap his chest. He laughed and put me down but his hands never left my waist. “Let's go grab something to feast on,” he said punching the air as I nodded with a laugh. “Ok. But I need to go home early. I need to set the theme or my mom threatened to set up Cindrella” I shivered as he laughed. We went to our usual café and he ordered a cake and my favorite shake. “Happy birthday, love,” he said as he lighted a candle on the small cake. “Thank you” I whispered before blowing the candle. “I love you,” I said as I took a spoon of the cake and gave him some. He did the same for me before kissing my cheek. He wrapped his arm around my waist and brought his face to my neck, inhaling my scent. “How is your university studies?” I asked as he sighs. “Stressing. I have 3 theses to submit. And they want me to attend the advance course too,” he said as I nodded. “Can we go and see Mamma Lucy?” I asked as he smiled. “Of course. She would be happy to see you” he said as I beamed in excitement. After we finished our cake and shake, we made our way to the hospital. “You are graduating in 3 months. Have you planned what to do next” he asked as I sigh. “Not sure. But I think I’m taking a break” I said as he nodded and kicked a stone. The truth is that I will be starting my training as Alpha. This means assisting dad in meetings, more battle training, and office works… My life is pretty hectic. But I wouldn’t complain. Owen’s life is even more tragic. When he was in 2nd-year high school his mother was hospitalized with a terrible case of leukemia. The doctor said it was diagnosed earlier and if she doesn’t start a blood transfusion she will die. That day he quit his studies and started to go to work but his mother made him promise to continue his studies and graduate university. So here he is, doing many part-time jobs, studying for university, taking care of his mother. And he still has time for me. What’s there to hate about him? He is strong and brave. He kept going no matter the hardships he faced.
