“I’m going to kill you!” She laughed as she chased me around the shallow end of the pool.
“That’s not even my fault, you’re the one hitting me!” I laughed.
“You should’ve let me do it then!”
I tripped and she jumped on top of me and held me under the water. I was able to turn around and pull her down on top of me. I held her under before letting us both come back up.
“Somebodies are having a good time.” Kane teased as we came up.
Amber pushed me again and walked up the stairs.
“Are you sure you’re related to this animal?” She asked.
“Unfortunately!” Kane laughed. “But he’s not that bad when you get to know him.”
“Wait a minute!” I laughed, “You’re the one who tried to drown me first!”
“And?” She took her hair out of its puff and squeezed some water out.
“And! When are you going to take responsibility for this?”
“Never!”
I watched as she took one towel and wrapped it around her hair, then took the other to wrap around her body. I laughed to myself and swam a couple of laps around the pool. Ten minutes in, I realized that I didn’t eat this morning. I grabbed Amber’s sunglasses and got out of the pool.
“Do you forgive me?” I asked as I handed the shades back.
“Mhmm, I’ll think about it.”
“What if I hook you up a burger?”
“See, now you’re talking my language.”
“Do you guys want a burger?” I asked.
“Naw, we’ll be in soon though.” Kane answered.
Amber shrugged her shoulders and followed me into the house.
“So,” She said as she slid into a bar stool, “How long have you guys been staying here? It’s really nice.”
“I got us this place when we were like nineteen.”
“You own it?”
“Yes.” I laughed.
“What the hell do you do for a living.”
“A little this and a little that.”
She poked her lips out at me but didn’t ask more. I liked that; most girls would’ve been asking fifty million questions.
“So, what are you in school for?” I asked pulling out the patties from the oven.
“I’m trying to get into the law program.”
“For criminal law?”
“No, family law.”
“I don’t understand how you and Kane have classes together then. He’s in his senior year and you’re in what, sophomore year?”
“Yeah, but we have to take a lot of different classes before we graduate. So, it’s not unusual for a senior and a sophomore to have classes together. Some classes are only offered every so often and other classes are hard to get into. I know some people who wait til senior year to take easy classes.”
“I remember him saying some s**t like that, what about Maddison? She tryna be a lawyer too?”
“Hell no,” Amber laughed, “She’s actually in the music program.”
“And she need this class y’all are taking.”
Amber smiled big, “She’s only in the class because Kane’s in the class.”
I started laughing hard as f**k, “You’re lying!”
Amber shook her head as Kane and Maddison walked in.
“What’s so funny?” Maddison asked.
“Amber was telling me how she wanted to go up stair and play under the sheets.”
“OMG! I rather you just tell on me than say that.”
“You ain’t deny it.” I teased.
“f**k you, Zane.”
“Yes, please.”
“I can’t do this with you!” Amber blushed again as she looked away.
“Anybody ever tell you how cute you are when you blush?”
“Anybody ever tell you how sexy you are when you blush?” She said.
I had to contain my smile, “Whatever.”
Kane laughed, “What the f**k? Let me find out.”
“Shut up, Kane!” I laughed.
“I’ll be quiet for now.”
Kane and I fixed them up some burgers before Amber got a phone call and they had to leave. Kane and Maddison walked to the door first, while Amber was still packing up her stuff. She had used Kane’s shampoo and s**t to wash the chlorine out of her hair. She had wrapped one of our clean towels around her now clean afro.
“So, can a nigga at least get aa hug?” I asked when I was sure Kane was out front.
“Are you going to behave?” She questioned. “I saw you checking out my ass earlier.”
“I did do that, but I promise, I won’t put my hands on it.”
“Fine.”
I walked over and held my arms out for her, she walked into my hug. I rubbed my hands down her back and stopped just above her ass.
“See you play too much.” She laughed into my ear.
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t caress your back, I said I wouldn’t touch your ass.”
“Yeah, whatever Zane.” She laughed as she stepped back.
I grabbed her duffle bag before she could and followed her to the door.
“So, how am I supposed to call you about our date next week?” I asked as we got to the car.
“Ask your brother.” She laughed.
“Naw, tell me.”
“You don’t have a pen!”
“But you do!”
She laughed and pulled a pen out of her bag and held her hand out.
“Naw, pull out some paper.”
“Nope, let me write on your hand or you can ask Kane.”
I smacked my lips and held out my hand, I was not about to ask that nigga s**t. She giggled and wrote her number on my hand.
“Text me okay, don’t be one of those weird ass niggas that just hold onto it and doesn’t say anything for days.”
“I’ma text you, Love, I promise.”
I opened the passenger’s door for her and closed before leaning against it.
“So, can I get a kiss now?” I teased.
“Definitely not!” She laughed, “I’m not giving you a second chance to do something slick.”
“What am I going to do with you?”
“Work hard to get me.” She laughed as Maddison pulled off.
I was left looking at Kane making a face at me.
“f**k you man.” I said walking into the house.
“Love? Date?” He laughed as he followed me. “Asking for a kiss? Where the f**k is my brother?”
“I know you’re not talking Cupcake King.”
“That’s my thing though, you’re Mr. f**k em and Diss em. Now you’re taking this girl on a date. I’ve never seen you try this hard in my life.”
“s**t, she was not falling for my shit.” I laughed, “I gotta switch up my game.”
“All I’ma say is, don’t f**k her over like you did those other chicks. Amber’s a good girl man and I don’t need her and her friends hating me because my brother’s a hoe!’
“Yeah, yeah, I just want to see where this goes. I’ve never had to chase a girl this f*****g hard in my life. This is going to be interesting.”
