Chapter 14: THE REASON Part 1

*24 years ago*

The King and Queen of the strongest and largest dragon clan Draconis had been blessed with a beautiful baby dragon five years ago, and she was the most amazing weredragon they had ever seen. She was extremely talented and though her warrior training was yet to begin, she was extremely strategic already. She was admired by all the clan members.

She was named Nuri; Princess Nuri of dragon clan Draconis. The King had not followed the custom of naming the princess after an ancestor of his family, but instead, he had named her after his mate's mother of Hebrew origins.

Hearing about the Princess, all the dragon clans from the neighbouring territories were wanting to know more about her.

One of the dragon clans named Phoenix had an extremely ruthless king, who only desired and believed in power, King Fin. He had rejected his mate after she had given him twin daughters and a son. The rejection had driven her to madness and ultimately resulted in her death. He only believed in power and strength. He had multiple mistresses after her death, with each mistress being one of the different mystic species, and had each of them bear him more offspring.

To determine which child would be his heir, he had organised tournaments to determine the strongest. All his descendants were made to participate in these tournaments, irrespective of their age, gender or progeny, even his true born twin daughters and son were made to participate. At the end of the tournaments, the sole victor was one of his youngest, the child through one of his mistresses. This child was nine years old and had not even been named yet since it was the clan custom for the father to give the name, and King Fin had never bothered to do so.

King Fin promised himself that this child would be the key in him being the ruler of the greatest dragon clan. The child would take the daughter of the Draconis clan to be his mate, chosen or not, and would make her give him a strong heir, one who would rule not only the two clans but all the dragon clans.

And King Fin would rule over them all.

He proclaimed this child to be his heir. The child was a dragon-fairy hybrid, destined to be extremely strong like his father and endowed with the magical arts like his mother. The King put him through vigorous training, to develop his abilities even further. Training him to be smart and strong, but also extremely ruthless and cunning; King Fin named this child, his heir, Roark.

*17 years ago*

The King and Queen of the dragon clan Draconis had organized a grand gala to celebrate the Coming of Age of Princess Nuri, which would even incorporate the ceremony. All the dragon clans had been invited as was the custom to enable the female dragon heir of the strongest clan to interact with the members of different clans, all while searching and trying to find her mate.

This evening they would find the companion of their new leader, who would learn the ways of the Draconis clan, who would support Princess Nuri once she became Queen Nuri and who would then be declared the new King.

But Princess Nuri had always been a rebel, she did not like the idea of the ball and would rather spend more time in training and learning, and have a private ceremony. But she did not want to disappoint her parent’s and so agreed to the bravado. They had meticulously planned out the gala and had given keen attention to all the details.

As the day of the gala approached, Princess Nuri felt more uncertain but did not let that affect her parent’s and the joy they felt of their daughter approaching her 12th birthday.

On the day of the gala, the Princess wore a fire gown, made by the combined dragon breaths of the King and Queen, as a blessing from them in the search for a mate. After the guests had gathered in the ballroom, the Princess entered, with grace, beauty and strength. Everyone watched as she approached her parents who smiled at her extremely proud.

The leaders of some the dragon clans began presenting their heirs as suitors for the Princess, however, Princess Nuri and her dragon Octava were not feeling the mate bond tingle.

She then began to interact with the other guests in the ballroom, but still nothing. And then she saw King Fin of the dragon clan Phoenix and his heir...
