Aidan's POV:
*When Aidan was 7 years old*
I, Aidan Draco Swift, a descendant of the great dragon species, had been raised as one of the last few weredragons in existence.
My mother, Princess Nuri of the dragon clan Draconis, married my father, a mere mortal Adam Swift for love, at the tender age of sixteen, which lead to chaos among the Mystics (the magical folk) until I was born two years later and demonstrated weredragon abilities.
I was named Aidan, after my great-grandfather of Irish ancestry as was the clan custom, but my mother also wanted me to have a connection to my father and his name. So I was Aidan Swift of dragon clan Draconis. However, for mortal details and documentation, I was Aidan Draco Swift.
I was treated with utmost importance and even royalty from all over the globe gave my family and me the respect we demanded.
However, our existence was kept secret from the general mortal population, which is something I never understood and always questioned, to which my mother would smile and reply "Wait a few more years my precious prince, you are still only but seven years old and are still too young to understand some of our ways. Once you are twelve and of age, we will explain everything to you. For now, go along, off to training."
I was put through training since a young age to be a warrior, and though at times it was tiring, I enjoyed the experience and the exposure, excelling exponentially. I was learning quicker than the other children of the clan and did not think twice about showing off, which always infuriated my mother, even though I am sure she and dad felt proud too. She was always worried about me as my abilities and lineage distinguished from the other members of our clan, and though many of the children my age trained with me, I did not have any close friends.
*When Aidan was 10 years old*
I was going through the sword fighting daily training, along with my peers, when three new trainees arrived.
"Why are they here?" "Who are they?" "Will they be training with us?" "What are they doing here?" were the murmurs going around, which were silence by our trainer, Jack.
Jack looked at the way we were reacting to the new members of our training group and immediately set things straight, "This is Natalie, Odette and Daniel" he said as each of them stepped forward at the mention of their name, "they will be training with us from now on, as their respective trainers are unavailable at the moment. I am sure you can all tell that they are not part of our or any other dragon clan, but I will leave the more detailed introductions to them. You have fifteen minutes to get to know each other, and then we resume training. Dismissed."
Though we looked similar there were differences that only fellow mystics could see, which distinguished the different mystics species.
From my lessons, I immediately realized that the new trainees were not weredragons. The two girls were fairies, and the boy was a werewolf.
The moment the girls came forward I felt a connection to the one named Odette. Then our eyes met and I was sure about it. "What is this feeling? I should ask mama about this after training." I looked towards her, but after introducing herself she kept to herself and was only talking and interacting with the other girl who had joint with her; She did not even look in my direction.
Everyone got aquatinted and by then Jack was back, restarted the training.
I finished my training and immediately went looking for my mother and father, and found them in their chambers. I told them about the fairies and the werewolf, and what had happened. They both immediately looked at each other and smiled. This made me even more curious.
"Aidan, sweetheart, do you remember I used to tell you, how I married your father for love" mother said still smiling and looking towards my father. "Yes, mama." "And you also remember that the dragon clan is the strongest among the other mystics species?" "Yes mama, and I am even more special and strong because of you and dad", I said very proudly. I prided myself on my uniqueness and abilities, which I had come to realize were currently excelling in my current training group and already equating to some of the members of our senior groups, who were three to five years elder than me.
My mother gave me a warning look "Yes you are special my dear, but never let that get to your head, ever." I nodded, and a smile crept back onto her face, "So back to the girl, Odette you say... Tell me more and be completely honest.. Do you feel protective of her? Do you want to spend time with her? Do you want to train with her?" "Yes mama, I just did not want to leave her side, but I do not think she felt the same way. She did not look towards me again." I sat down on my mother's favourite chair with my head hanging.
"Oh my dearest, because you are special, you have a better sense of intuition and have already started noticing things that you should be able to only after your coming of age ceremony. So don't worry. Spend time with her, but for now don't mention anything you have discussed with your father and me to anyone else, that includes her."
I looked at my mother quizzically, "Why not her? Won't she find it weird that I want to spend time only with her?"
Father chuckled at this and stepped forward, "Son, we know how you feel. Believe me, the moment I saw your mother I could not think of anything or anyone but her, though it took her some time to realize. She was not as sharp as you, you see." He said winking, which got him a disapproving look from his mother. He gave her his best smouldering smile and continued "but I did give her that time, and so should you. Odette needs to realize and feel the connection herself, you cannot force it on her. So, for now, spend time with not only her but the other two new trainees and your peers. From the information shared with us, I know that Odette and the other girl Natalie are sisters."
"No wonder she was so close to her, that makes sense," I said remembering her being extremely comfortable with the other new girl.
"Thank you both, mama and dad," I said stepping out of the chamber and heading towards my room.
"Now let us see how we can spend some extra time with everyone in our training group..." I thought as I started coming up with a plan.
