Daniel's POV:
"The surprise had turned out amazing, the first time we experienced something the way the mortals do regularly. Well excluding the part of me being choked... Now for the trek... I am sure none of us will ever forget it!" I thought to myself as I was stepping out of my room.
I walked towards Aidan's room as we had decided to gather there and met the girls on the way. I was about to knock on the door to Aidan's room but then heard him stepping towards it and moved aside.
He was smiling when he opened the door.
"Good morning to the dragon who is celebrating his birthday today!!" I said as I stood in the same warrior stance as Aidan had a few hours ago. "Yes, yes... I know you are never going to make me forget that. I am sure you will never forget my grip strength either..." Aidan responded laughing and stood rigid against the wall imitating my condition from the same time.
Natalie's POV:
"Males," I thought, taking Odette's hand and moving, "We are heading out. You both can continue with that. Odette and I will enjoy the trek. Buh-bye now..."
"It is his birthday Nat" Odette whispered to me defending Aidan. "My dear sister, I know it is, that's why we are moving... I am sure he will have more fun on the trek and since there is nowhere he will not follow you..... See what I mean??" I said glancing to see that Aidan and Daniel already moving towards us and about to catch up.
"Nat, I don't think that's the case," Odette said blushing.
She had been blushing more than usual off late, but before I could tell her that Aidan was right behind us asking "What's not the case Odette?"
Aidan's POV:
We caught up to the girls to hear Odette say "Nat, I don't think that's the case." "What's not the case Odette?" I couldn't help but wonder and blurted it out without realising. "Nothing... Just some girl talk..." Odette said and turned away.
Daniel looked at me wiggling his eyebrows, which I pretended not to see and continued walking.
We reached the gate where a chariot had been arranged to take us to the foot of High Forest Mountain, since it would be at least a two-hour walk to the mountain itself, not considering the four to five hours trek up to the peak. We all climbed into it; once the horses started galloping, we would reach our destination within 30 minutes.
During the ride, none of us could stop talking from the excitement. I had never before been on a trek without mama and dad, so this was something new for me, only my closest friends and me.
The girls told us that this was their very first trek, so Daniel and I told them not to worry, as we would be with them throughout. We would not leave their side either way, but saying it had put them more at ease, especially Odette.
"Why would she ever think I would leave her side?" I wondered to myself but was pulled out of my thoughts when the charioteer announced we would be reaching the foot of High Forest mountain in the next three minutes.
Our attention was drawn to the view beyond the chariots windows. Since it was Odette, Natalie and Daniel's first time seeing High Forest Mountain, they were staring at it with awe, though Odette's look was laced with traces of worry which she tried to hide as she gave a broad smile to an exhilarated Natalie. I couldn't take my eyes off her.
She suddenly turned towards me, but this time there was nothing for me to occupy myself with, and our eyes met. She looked surprised but smiled.
The chariot came to a halt and Daniel practically jumped out, immediately followed by Natalie.
I stepped out and waited for Odette, her face again laced with worry. I stood lending her my hand as she stepped out of the chariot. When she was down I whispered, "I will not leave your side, I promise." I wanted to reassure her and it worked because she gave me her dazzling smile, that smile which I had been mesmerised by since the first time I saw it on the day we met. There were no traces of worry on her face anymore. We walked together, slowly approaching Natalie and Daniel.
Once we were together Daniel exclaimed, "This is from where our adventure begins!" and we started to head up the mountain.
