The Dragon's Second Chance: The Past

Chapter 5: BIRTHDAY SURPRISE Part 1

Daniel's POV:

The moment Aidan said bye and headed towards his parent's chamber, I turned to the girls "You'll know what's the plan right?" I whispered to them, not wanting the acute senses of Aidan to catch on to any part of our plan. They each nodded, and Odette lightly blushed. 

"This could be interesting, Odette blushing and Aidan longingly looking at Odette while pretending nothing is going on... Something is up... But I can figure that out tomorrow." I thought to myself.

"Once we are sure he has left his parent's chamber, we will have to tell Princess Nuri and Sir Adam the details of our plan. I am so glad they gave us permission for this surprise." Natalie was almost bouncing with excitement. 

"By the way, you girls are very convincing. I don't think Aidan figured anything out. As of now, he believes only I am involved in the planning but oh so soon he is going to be speechless." I glanced at Odette to see her light blush had now turned a pretty obvious shade of red. "Things are going to get very interesting tomorrow," I said suggestively.

We three sat and discussed the remainder of the surprise and waited for thirty minutes, as discussed with Princess Nuri, before heading towards the princess and her mate's chambers.

The moment we arrived and were about to knock on the door, we heard Princess Nuri "Come on in children". We quickly stepped in shutting the door behind us to find Princess Nuri and Sir Adam sitting on a sofa near the fireplace and motioned for us to sit on the one opposite them. 

"We have been waiting for you'll. As we were sure, Aidan stopped by to say good night to us before heading to bed. So to get right to it, Adam explained the basic idea of the plan, based on our initial discussion. I have no experience with such a plan but he has done it multiple times before, so I am sure he can help you tie up any loose ends. This is the first time you all are trying something like this as well, correct?"

To my knowledge never before had Mystics surprised anyone for their birthday in this manner, let alone a member of the dragon clan's royal family. It was something I had only heard of and wanted to ensure we all experienced if Aidan was the first that would be even better.  In a short time, we have spent together, we had become best friends and I thought of him as the brother I never had. 

This would be the final discussion before the execution of the plan and so we all added our inputs. Though this was something new for Princess Nuri, Natalie, Odette, and me, we contributed to the discussion and shared ideas which according to Sir Adam could be added on to our current plan.

We ensured all the materials required were ready and set for the efficient execution of the plan. Even though it was way past our bedtime, today we did not feel drowsy. 

By the time all preparations were completed and we were set to go, it was half-past eleven. Princess Nuri was sure that Aidan would be fast asleep by now. This was very vital to our plan since his room was where we were headed.

Sir Adam and I were the first to sneak into the room, just to ensure that the ladies were not in for any kind of shock. To our relief, Aidan was fast asleep, almost completely covered up, and was lightly snoring. This made both of us smile. Sir Adam went and informed the ladies, and everyone silently entered.

When we had finished setting up everything and the final touches were given, there were only 3 minutes left for twelve.

We sat silently for the next two minutes and then counted down the last sixty seconds. Sir Adam quickly went to the door and informed the warriors standing on guard to not be alarmed by the noise that would be following and immediately rushed back.

At sharp 12, we each popped these mortal inventions called party poppers and shouted "SURPRISE!"

What happened next was almost too funny... Aidan jumped out of bed, went into a fighting stance, and roared. His eyes changed from golden brown with green flecks to blood red, giving his inner dragon control. The next thing I know I am up against the wall with Aidan's hand to my throat. Funny..... not so much for me anymore.

I kept tapping his hand, trying to get him to release me from the death grip, but it was Odette's voice that brought him out of his trance. He immediately withdrew his hand and turned wondering what was going on to see everyone staring.

Being the warrior I am, I immediately caught my breath, got up, and spider-monkeyed him, "Happy Birthday Aidan!!"

Everyone immediately chimed in "SURPRISE!", but the look on Aidan's face was just beyond hilarious.

Aidan's POV:

After saying good night to my parents, I went back to my room and prepared to go to bed. We would be leaving at dawn and so I decided to go to bed earlier than usual and dozed off thinking about Odette.

"Was she blushing when we said bye?" I wondered and slowly drifted to sleep.

I was startled awake by loud bursts of sound followed by multiple people shouting, and went into total warrior mode. I gave jumped out of bed and stood in my fighting stance, giving control to Drake, my dragon. We roared and took the person standing within arm's length by the throat,  a male by the physique,  and pinned him to the wall blocking his airways. 

"Did someone invade our lands? Where are mama and dad? Where are the guards? Is everyone safe? Where is my Odette?" My mind was jumbled with thoughts of the intruders. 

I could feel the person trying to get out of my hold, but that would be an obvious response to having your airway blocked. I heard a voice calling to me and finally realized that it was Odette's. 

"Odette?" I slowly released my hold on the male and turned around to see my mother, father, Odette, and Natalie staring at me. They all had these weird pointy things on their heads, had some weird cylinders held in their hands, and were covered with fine sparkles. I just stared at them wondering what was happening.

Suddenly, I felt the male climb onto me, and then I heard his voice and recognized Daniel saying "Happy Birthday Aidan!", and everyone shouting "SURPRISE!"

I just stood there stunned wondering "What the hell is going on?"
