Chapter 23: A MOMENT

860 Words
Adam's POV: Though she had been a bit sceptical at first about my offer; once she agreed I couldn't be happier. As the movie progressed I realised that I was more drawn to her than the movie, and I continued to watch her as she enjoyed the movie. Watching her I realised that I had never felt like this for any girl before... I was mesmerised by her.. And I wanted her to be mine.  I knew that I wanted to surprise her with something other than a regular date, and taking her to my spot would be my chance to ask her to be my girlfriend.  If someone had told me earlier today that I would be courting a girl I had met only a few hours earlier, I would have stated the person to be unstable and in need of medical attention. However now, that was the case. I had never been in a relationship before, I had always been focused on work. And though girls had always approached me, it was more for the family name and money than for me. But this girl did not know me or my family, and how I would love her to meet them. "Focus Adam", I thought to myself "Don't get ahead of yourself. She has only come out with you for dinner and a movie, she might not even think of it as a date. You need to ask her to be your girlfriend, before wanting her to meet the family." Once the movie was over, I guided Nuri to the exit while calling for my car. When the car arrived, I took the keys to my chauffeur's surprise. I opened the door for Nuri; and once she was sitting in I shut the door, jogged to the other side, got in and fastened my seat belt. I glanced towards Nuri, to see her doing the same. I quickly got us onto the freeway, all the while sensing that she was buzzing with curiosity. Suddenly she asked, "So where are we going?" Keeping my eyes on the road I smiled, "I am taking you to my spot!" I navigated through the traffic to eventually be only a few minutes away from our destination, so I quickly glanced towards her "Close your eyes Nuri. You have to trust me. We will be there in the next few minutes." Hearing her say "I trust you" was music to my ears. As I parked the car facing the city lights I asked her to open her eyes. She was dazzled and whispered, "It is beautiful!" But I was not seeing the view, I was watching her and smiled "Yes, beautiful!"  When she turned to me I let my feeling flow, "I know we have just met, but I would like to ask you something. You do not need to answer right away, you can think about it and give me your response." Once she nodded I continued. "Though we have met only a few hours ago, I feel a connection with you. And though you are so young, you are a strong, independent, and amazing person. I would like to get to know you better and would like to give you the chance to get to know me as well. What I am trying to say is, will you be my girlfriend?" Hearing this she just stared at me, and I was starting to worry. "I like you too. But.." I was almost on cloud nine, and the but brought me down to earth again "You can take all the time you want to think about it..."  "Adam, I would like to start as friends, at least for now. I would like to get to know you as my friend first, and then I will give you my answer. I promise."  "Whatever you need. I will give you all the time you need." I did not want to pressure her, so I asked, "Want to step out of the car?" And was pleased to hear "I would love that." I got out of the car and moved to open the door for Nuri. She moved towards the barricade and just stood there admiring the view. followed her and though I wanted to look at her, I too admired the view. We both just stood there and time passed by, till there were barely any lights of the vehicles moving. "It is getting pretty late, I would like to drop you back to your place. Are you comfortable with that?" "Thank you, Adam. Let's head back." We turned back towards the car and started moving where our arms brushed. I took a few steps further and on realising that Nuri was not by my side, turned to see her just standing and looking at me. "Nuri..." I was not sure what was happening and why she just stood there, and as I went back to her I couldn't overcome the feeling of wanting to make sure she was okay, and so I cupped her face in my hands, but before I could ask her whether she was fine I heard a loud growl from behind me and turned to ensure that Nuri would be protected from whatever was headed in our direction.
