“Okay… I guess a warm welcome is a bit much to ask for then…? But Die? Really? Isn’t that a bit much… Besides you were the one that said I could call you anything other than uncle, and I made my choice…”
“I really don’t get why you are getting worked up for nothing” The wanderer replied unfazed by his rising temper, instead he showed an expression of confusion, as to why he was getting worked up. And surprised to his uncle's sudden anger as to how he was addressing him. Rubbing his chin pondering on what he might had missed. As his energy flow matched his expression.
Olamide was confused as to how things was playing out. Given how he has never seen the old man this furious about such petty issue, and that of how his young master was unable to tell the obvious.
Wondering if he was just taunting his uncle or otherwise. But it was hard for him to tell given how he seemed to be serious with his reply, which made him question if he was the same person that was able to analyze the activities of the general’s raid, and the possible intent of it. As he stood watch of how the event unfold. Unsure of if there was need for him to step in, or say anything.
While the man concealing himself in the shadows couldn’t help but felt amused by how things was playing out.
“You truly are the clown prince of the Lynar… The appeared oblivious and care free lad” the man in the shadows thought in amusement.
“Why you little…” his uncle whispered in annoyance, putting his hand down, as he broke his painting brush in reflex to his annoyance.
“I see you’re still oblivious to things as you were back then… Okay then, I’ll just have to be more…” he continued, about to stand from his seat, but was interrupted by the wanderer.
“Oh Yeah… Now I remember… It’s because you haven’t drank any palm wine today, right? You always did display a sour look on your face, and get easily upset, whenever you haven’t… I guess you haven’t changed much over the years, if that’s the case…”
“And that would explain why you’re cranky” the wanderer relayed stating, what he recalled, and believed could be the possible reason for his act. While itching the side of his face with a look of disappointment to his believed uncle’s circumstance. Still unfazed by his temper.
His words placed all present in the room in a haze, as all believed he was actually serious and was not acting, nor was he trying to be rude to his uncle, due to his expression and matched flow of energy to his expression. He was just oblivious of his uncle’s feelings toward how he addressed him. Although Olamide and the man in the shadow knew what he said was true. Given his uncle’s obsession with palm wine. But that was not the point at the moment.
In light to that his uncle anger dialed down, as his annoyance and anger faded, forcing him to remain seated, while the wanderer placed his hand forward from where he stood at the shoulder side of his uncle.
“Well… If a drink is what will help change your mood I guess I can help with that… Given how I had prepared a gift for you already… I was going to give it to you later, but what the hell… Here” the wanderer continued, not reading the room as he proceed with his believed solution to his uncle’s ailment.
Making a slightly big calabash containing palm wine appear, as he grabbed the neck of it with his right hand, while using his left to open its top cover a bit, for the scent of the wine to escape. Knowing the effect it would have on his uncle, as he made sure the scent reach his uncle, from where he stood.
The scent of the wine overwhelmed his uncle as anticipated, enough to make his uncle turn to him. Holding the wanderer’s hand with the calabash in gratitude of his offered gift, as all thought of him calling him an old man was overlooked.
While the man in the shadow revealed himself, after he was invited for a drink by the wanderer’s uncle in excitement of the change of event. Knowing the palm wine in the calabash was of high quality in all field of quality wine, from the scent to the supposed taste of it. The wanderer’s uncle, and sir Babatunde left the painting space together.
Moving to the left end of the first floor, where a VIP room was located. Within it, there was a table to place their drink on, and chairs to sit. Making it a good spot to drink from on the first floor, in case of when they don’t want to use the second floor.
But before they went on to the room, they made sure to dragged Olamide along to join them for a drink, even as he tried to refuse, but all his efforts, and words were pointless to their wish. Leaving the wanderer after he turn down their invitation. Giving the excuse of him being exhausted, due to his long distance travel to the kingdom.
He was then told that his previous room during his late visit to the kingdom was still, as it was, and there hasn’t been any significant change to the building structure from what it was. So he should be able to find his way around. Calling it a night as they matched to begin drinking the palm wine he brought, while the wanderer went upstairs to bathe, and then change to his night garment, with hopes of sleeping.
As he wondered if the princess was also resting at the point in time, or was being scolded, due to the anger he sensed from one he believed had the energy signature of a king. But relieved his uncle, and the others were yet to pick up on his act.
“Am here now… I’ll just have to see it through… Hopefully, if my hunch is right… there will be no need for much bloodshed… But if otherwise… Well, I truly hope it doesn’t come to that” the wanderer pondered, resting on his bed, a bit worried of the outcome of things. While hoping things goes his way. Awaiting to fall asleep as he stared at the ceiling of his room.
Meanwhile at the first floor of the building, his uncle, and sir Babatunde were drinking to their heart’s content, refilling their cups once they notice it was about to get empty, as they savor each sip. Talking and mumbling about petty things, as that of the goodness of the palm wine and the wanderer, both the good, and bad qualities he has, but were yet to be drunk.
While Olamide sat listening, as he was still sipping from his first cup of the palm wine. Trying to control his urge for another cup due to the profound goodness of the taste, in order not to get drunk and pass out.
They drank for the most part of the night, and it only took a moment for Olamide to loosen up. Letting the goodness of the wine overwhelm him, as he kept drinking till he got drunk. And then started talking about his personal thought of his young master, as that of his recent achievement, amongst other things, before he passed out.
“What do you make of this, Babatunde?”
“Honestly, sire I don’t know what to think… Given his personality, it’s a bit hard to get a read of the reasons behind his actions, or his drive to do things… But I doubt his act is for any political gain, given the circumstance and his personality”
“But if what he said is true, it would clear the mystery as to why the general was willing to withdraw immediately, after the king’s order, in regards to my report earlier… The question now is how was he able to convince the general to do as he wished…?”
“Because i doubt there’s anything he could had offer the general for him to comply with the withdrawal of the raids, given the general’s nature of being prideful, and unwilling to bend to anyone’s will” sir Babatunde replied, the uncle of the wanderer, surprised by the supposed achievement of the young master. As he speculate on things. While they kept drinking as Olamide rest on the table passed out.
“C’mon now, do you really think he’ll try convincing him with the scene of the raids...? If am to guess, I’ll say he held his life hostage, making him do as he wished…”
“The lad is quite horrifying when he wants to be… Even I am forced to acknowledge that... Knowing that am not surprised by his willingness to give into his wish… Am just glad he didn’t make a mess of things” the wanderer uncle’s relayed sharing his thoughts of things, giving an answer to sir Babatunde’s thought.
“Indeed, am also aware of that terrifying fact… I guess it safe to say the general was lucky, he must had been extremely scared… Shaking in his boots, if he didn’t piss himself by his present… Ha-ha” sir Babatunde relayed in humor as he laughed while acknowledging the wanderer’s uncle’s words.
“However, as regard to the issue of the princess and the young master, sire… Do you think he has…? I mean is there a chance that…”
“There is no point in jumping to conclusion… After all we still need to confirm things be for anything else… Even so, right now that is not our major concern… The issue of the general and mystery of the attempted a*******n takes priority…” the wanderer’s uncle cut in, to sir Babatunde statement noticing his stress to the thoughts of things. As he made their priority clear to him, so as not to get his priority mixed up.
“So look into what Olamide said Abidemi speculated on, that will be our starting point, given how it's the only real lead we have so far… I'll confirm Olamide's uttered words, when he gives his report tomorrow… So, leave the issue of the princess and my nephew… We’ll address that later” The wanderer’s uncle continued sharing, his thought of things, as he then instruct sir Babatunde to focus on investigating the case before them with the leads Olamide mentioned.
“Okay then, I’ll keep that in mind and do as you said, sire”
“Good, that’s enough for tonight… Am going to get some rest” his uncle said concluding their talk, and calling it a night as he lean backward, while on his chair. With his head resting on the top slat cushion
Dismissing sir Babatunde. He stood from his seat, putting his cup down, as he took a bow before fading to the shadows, concluding the night.
In the palace, within the chambers of the second princess, after she was pulled to her chamber by the queen and her mother. They sat on her bed, with her mother checking if she was truly okay. Eager to ask how she was feeling.
And curious of where she went and, what happened in the process, as they tried to comfort her as regards to the king’s decree. At the same time persuade her, that he was just trying to secure her safety and she should just do her best to play along for a while, for them to convince him to do otherwise.
“Thank you for your kindness, and concern… Mother, your majesty… And I’m truly sorry for troubling you both… But am fine with doing what he decreed… It probably won’t be easy but I’ll get use to it…”
“And I know his highness is only concern about my safety… After all that’s the only reason he get so worked up about my issues… So you don’t need to worry… I’ll be fine” the princess relayed, noticing their hesitation to express their true intent, as she smiled. Putting their worries to rest with her gentle and comforting voice.
They felt relief after hearing her words. Convinced it was partly genuine at the very least, as they hold her hands. Almost in tears, amazed by her maturity to things, telling her, she should just hold on for a bit longer that they’ll do their best to suade him to reconsider things, so she should just do as he said for now.
Moments after their talk, the queen and her mother left her chamber, for her to rest with what was left of the night. The queen to the king’s chamber, and the king’s mother to her own.
Meanwhile, the second princess went to freshen up, then changed to her night garment, before she laid on her bed. Crying as she buried her face on her pillow, to prevent the sound of her crying reaching out.
Knowing she won’t be able to visit the forest for a while, possibly a long period of time. As the thought of not even seeing the wanderer again made her heart ache. Adding to the disappointment of things, making it harder for her to stop the tears from pouring out, till she eventually cried herself to sleep. As all her pent-up emotion was pouring out.
