Basically, he wished Ethan cared a little more about himself—was a bit more like other children his age. But then again, he wasn't exactly in a position to say anything. He hadn't been officially accepted back yet. He didn’t have the right to lecture or guide. All he could do now was spend time with the kids, make them happy. Teaching them right from wrong? Not his role right now. Still, James had a pretty good idea why Ethan turned out this way. Maria was always swamped at work. Daniel had his studies. So as the big brother—even if it was just by a few minutes—Ethan had taken on the role of caregiver for his little sister. He had to be the responsible one. Couldn't act out. Couldn't make trouble. Had to be the example. Over time, he probably forgot that he was just a kid too.
