Moments Later
Steam funneled upward from the front of the Escalade. Its grill was smashed and entangled with the vehicle it slammed into. The crash pushed the parked vehicle backward into another one. The loud banging sounds emanated through the streets, causing the neighbors to look out of their windows wondering what was happening.
The Escalade’s driver-side door opened, and the older captor stumbled out. He grimaced in pain, blood dripping from his head. He looked at his wounded compatriot on the opposite side of the Escalade and reasoned he couldn’t assist him in his condition. He saw vehicles fast approaching him and then limped up the street hoping to escape.
