Telling Angel

1176 Words
James I watched on in irritation as the ground floor of the pack house is transformed into party central. Angel's birthday is tomorrow and the whole house was being turned upside down for the event. There would be an extensive amount of adult supervision. I had mad sure of that. Tomorrow was an important day, in more ways than one. Angel would turn eighteen, and would find her mate. Little does she know, I have been right in front of her the whole time. I had planned to tell her beforehand. But not time ever seems to be the right time. With everything else going on. I haven't had a moments peace in weeks. Adrian was semi conscious. I haven't mentioned that to Angel. I don't feel the need to have anything interfere with her big day. Besides, she was still super pissed about the dress. It was beautiful, and she looked amazing. But, Angel was not like most girls. She has no idea what kind of attention she would attract dressed like that. Hell, I could barley control myself in her presence as it was. The second she walked out of that bathroom, my c**k had gone instantly hard. I could have easily flipped her beneath me on her bed, lifted the hem and f****d her like... "Beta James, I need your help with the decorations." Deborah bats her fake lashes in my direction. She was a descent looking woman. A couple of years my senior. I had found myself in her bed on more than one occasion in the past. But not anymore. I discovered the pull I felt towards my sweet Angel shortly after her sixteenth birthday. I have not been with another woman since. I didn't see a point. I come up beside her and hold the garland in place above her head. Deborah accidentally presses her chest into my arm when she reaches above our heads to tape it down. "That's perfect. You are a good man to have around, James. Maybe later you could come by and help me..." "James! Please don't tell me this is what you had sent over?!" My gaze automatically pivots towards Angel's voice. She was upset. I don't have to see her face to know she had been crying. "Angel? What is it?" I push past Deborah and make a beeline to where my sweet girl is in a fit of tears. "Talk to me, honey. What's wrong?" She hiccups and holds up the hanger and dress bag similar to the one she had her other dress in. I take it from her and lead her down the hall to Adrian's office. I don't need an audience for what I was about to do. The second I have the door closed, I turn the lock, toss the garment bag onto the couch and pull her into my arms. I am not sure what has her so wound up, but I am hoping that the mate bond will be strong enough, now to give her some comfort. I know it does for me. I take a seat on an armchair and bring her down into my lap. I am surprised that she curls her small frame into a ball and continues to cry into my chest. Damn, she was small. I hadn't really thought about her size. But she is dwarfed by my larger frame. Her breathing evens out and she starts to calm down. "Can you tell me what happened?" "The dress..." She points at the couch. "What about it? I thought you picked out a different one last week?" She shook her head from side to side and burrows deeper into me. Her words are muffled into my shoulder and I have to try to make out what she is saying. "I did go. They said...you already picked one...it was delivered...how could you do this to me?!" Then she is in another fit of tears. "I never went to the damn dress shop. Why would I?" She pulls away and looks up at me. Her eyes are puffy. It broke my heart. Angel never cries. At least not in front of people. "Then who did?" "I don't know. But I will find out." And I was serious. I don't take it lightly that someone threw my name around so freely. And I really didn't like that someone made my Angel cry. "Let me see it. It can't be that bad." She shimmies off of my lap and goes to the couch. Unzips the bag and brings the dress back to me. I can't help it. I break out into a fit of laughter. She doesn't think it's funny. "Look at this thing. It could fit two of you." I stand up and take the garment, holding it against her small frame. "Now, do you really think I did this?" "Yes." She answers too quickly. "Well, maybe. You have been making my life hell for months. I just assumed you had stooped to a new low. " Damn. Maybe I had taken it too far. I guess now is the right time. I take her back the chair and pull her back into my lap, cocooning her on my arms. I place a kiss on the top of her head. "I never meant to hurt you, baby. I'm sorry." Her gaze snaps to mine. I've never called her that before. It felt good. It felt right. "Why would you, though? I know you are trying to fill Adrian's shoes, but this is getting ridiculous." "Adrian has nothing to do with it. I have been overbearing for my own personal reasons. Angel, I need to tell you something. But it never seems like the right time." Bang, bang, bang! I am interrupted once again. "No away!" Angel jumps a little when I roar at the closed door. "Yes, Beta." I turn back to Angel, who is still looking at me for answers. "I don't know where to start...Angel, I have known for two years that you are my mate. That's why I have been watching you like a hawk and keeping boys away from you." She stares up at me. Her eyes swimming with tears again. Shit. "Why didn't you just tell me, instead of making my life a living hell?" "I didn't realize that I was. I am sorry, Angel..." I take her small hand in mine and toy with her fingers. Waiting for her response. "Angel, say something." I am pleading now. I really had no idea. "I want the dress that I picked." Where the hell did that come from? "And have every unmated pup in the pack sniffing around you? No. Hell no!" She runs her free hand up my chest and looks up at me with her big doe eyes. Damn, did she know what she was doing to me? I look down at her again. Oh yeah. She knew.. "If my mate were there...I wouldn't have to worry about anyone sniffing around me but you." Shit! I am whipped already.
