Settling in

**Heads up, the video isn't about the movie 'White Chicks' I added it for the 'shopping' part. Thought it would be a little funny.** When I woke up, it was about 5:30 am, my father wasn't even awake yet or so I think. I went downstairs to the kitchen and made a pot of coffee and started making breakfast. Dad wasn't home a lot so he didn't have much food in his fridge. He mostly ate out or at the office. But I was lucky enough he has some stuff in the fridge. He had some eggs, so I took those out and started making some over easy eggs for sandwiches. While they were cooking I started making some toast. Once everything was done, my father started walking downstairs dressed and ready to head to work. I grabbed a to go bowl to put his sandwiches in and coffee into his coffee to go mug. I done the same with mine. I went to hand him s**t breakfast when he had spoke. "What's this for?" He asked me. "Breakfast of course." I told him. "I thought I'd drive you to work and eat with you." I said. "Kells, you don't have to drive me to work." "I know I want to. Plus I was already going out anyways. I need to go shopping. Since I've been gone for 8 years from this house, I'm pretty sure half my clothes don't fit me anymore. I've gain some weight in the last 4 years." He laughed a little. "Fine, go get dressed. I'll wait for you in your car." "You sure it will run, I haven't drove it in 4 years." "Yes, I kept up with it." He told me. "Good." I said as I kissed his cheek and ran up to my room. I grabbed my bag that I had and grabbed the clothes I had in there. I took out my black skinny jeans and purple and pink tie die shirt. I grabbed my gun put it in my holster and clipped it on my side as well as my badge and ID. I grabbed my black letter jacket and slipped on my shoes and headed downstairs. My father was already in the garage, so I grabbed my coffee and food then went out to the car. He already had the car running, and it sounded great. I got into the car, put my coffee cup in the cup holder and my food in the back seat. I clipped the garage button on my visor and rolled out as soon as it opened. When I pulled out into the street, I clicked it again to close it. I headed down the road to hit the main road to get to NCIS. It didn't take long to get there. When we pulled up to the security, I showed them my ID as well as my father's. They let us pass through and I found a parking spot. When I parked, we got out with our coffee and food and head up to 3rd floor. When we got to our floor, we got out and a few people were saying good morning to us. Of course we said it back as we walked to his desk. He sat down in his chair and I took the chair from the desk across from him and rolled it over to his desk and sat down. As we were eating, Tony showed up with a box of donuts. "Donut, boss?" He asked. "Maybe later, my daughter made me breakfast this morning and coffee." He said smiling. "Made you coffee, though you buy your coffee?" Tony asked. "I do, because I'm to lazy to make it. But now I have someone to make it for me." There he goes with that wide smile again. I'm never gonna get over that smile of his. It made my day better when I saw him smile. Morrow and Ducky said he hardly smiles anymore since I been gone. But now I'm back. And speaking of Morrow, here he comes out of the elevator. "Gibbs, thought you was taking the weekend off." He asked. Me and my father looked at each other since he said both our last names. Then looked back at him. "s**t, I'm gonna have to call you guys by y'all first name now." He said chuckling a little. "Or you can go back to calling me Major since that's what I am." I said. "Well if I do that I might as well call your father Gunner because that's what he is." Morrow said mocking me, but in a funny way. "Good point." I said laughing. "Naw, I'm always called Gibbs not stopping now." My father said. "Fine, I'll just call you Major Kelly then." He told me. I started smiling at him. "And to answer your question. I'm dropping dad off and ate breakfast with him before I head out." I told him. He nodded and started to go upstairs to his office then stops. He turns my way and looks at me. "Come by 1800 today, I wanna talk to you." He told me. "1800 okay." I said as I pushed back the chair to the other desk. "Want me to walk you out?" My father asked me. "Naw, its fine." I said as I walked towards the elevator. "I'll walk you out. I forgot my phone in my car." Tony told me. "No!" My father had told Tony. "What?" Tony said. "Don't what me. You know what." My father had said. Tony put his hands up at my father then walked over to me at the elevator. I looked at Tony then my father. My father looked at little pissed off at Tony for some reason. When the elevator opened, we got in and went down to the main floor. "What was that all about?" I asked Tony. "Gibbs thinks I'm going to hit on you." He told me. I stared at him with my hands on my hips. "Don't give me that look. I'm not gonna hit on you." He said then the elevator ha opened up. We walked out and I went one way and he went the other. "At least not right now." He had said that. "I heard that Tony." I called out. "Of course you did." He called out, as I got to the door. I shook my head and head towards my car. Once I got in, I had turned on my radio and headed towards Walmart. When I got there, I parked close to the entrance and got out. I grabbed a cart and headed towards the women's area. I went to the undergarments aisle to find me some cute bra's and underwear. I found a couple matching set so I got them and a pair of socks. Then went to the pants section, and grabbed a few work slacks and skirts, and a few jeans and shorts. Then headed towards the shirts. Found a few cute dress shirts that I could wear with the work pants and skirts, and a few cute and funny shirts that I either could wear to work or non work. Also found a few work jackets to go with the work slacks and skirts. After find the clothes I needed, I head over to the shoe section and found some dress shoes; heels and flats, and some running shoes. After all of that, I had went to go buy some food for the house. I went down every aisle and grabbed everything that me and my father liked and I can make for us. After being in the store for about 3 or 4 hours, it was already noon time. I paid for everything, coming to around a couple hundred dollars. Clothes ain't cheep now nor is food. I head home to put the food up where it belongs and put my stuff up in my room where they belonged. After putting my stuff up, I started making me something to eat again. I made dad something to eat as well and wrapped it up and got back in the car. I head to a gas station to get gas and got something to drink for me and my dad. Once I got to NCIS, I head to the 3rd floor. Dad wasn't there but Tony was. He was typing on the computer. I set my dads food and drink on his desk and went upstairs to Morrow office. Morrow's secretary Veronica, was typing away at her computer when I walked up to her. "Is he in?" I asked. "No, he's in telecom, Major Kelly." She told me. I nodded and head over to the telecom room. When I walked in the door, he was talking to my Colonel Briggs. When I slowly walked over to a chair to sit down, Colonel Briggs spotted me. "Trying to be sneaky are we Major Kelly." He called me out. Morrow turned around and saw me sitting in a chair. I let out a groan and got up and walked over to Morrow. "Damn you, Sir." I said. Both Morrow and Colonel Briggs laughed. "You can't sneak up on me or someone like Director Morrow there." Colonel Briggs had said. "What are you doing here? I said 1800, Major." "I know, I came to drop off lunch to dad. And came to ask you something." I said. "But I can wait." I sat down in a chair as they went on what they were talking about. About another 5 minutes they got off and Morrow turned around and looked at me. H nodded and turned out to the door. I followed him to his office and sat down in a chair and looked at him. He went to his file cabinet and pulled out a packet and a couple folders. One had my name on it and the other I couldn't see. He threw down the packet to me and places a pen on top of it. "Since your here early, we might as well get this done and over with. Fill these out and sign them, so I can have Veronica file it in the system." He told me. While I was filling out the paperwork, he was on the computer doing whatever. When I was done, I handed him back the paperwork. "Okay that is done." He said as he put it in folder with my name on it. "What's the other folder for?" I had asked. "Well that is for you." He said as he handed it to me. "Your father told me what had happened last night." He said. "What do you mean?" I asked as I opened up the folder. It was Ryan's folder. I looked back at Morrow with saw eyes. "What did my father tell you?" I asked. "He told me that you and Ryan were kinda an item." He told me. "And on his last breathe he told you he loved you in your arms." As he was telling me this, I started to tear up. I got up from the chair and started to leave the room. Morrow got up and grabbed my arm. When he did, I turned around with tears in my eyes. He grabbed a hold of me and hugged me. Way to settle in, by bringing up the past, where I wanted it to be left behind. Ryan was a touchy subject to me and I'll never get over it. "I gave you that folder to help you. His parents home address is in there. Why don't you go see them. He had talked about you to them. The day of the funeral, they had asked where you were, why wasn't you here for this." He told me. I whipped my eyes and nodded at him. I grabbed the folder from the desk and headed towards the door. "Thank you." I told him, as I walked out the office. I ran down the stairs to the elevator. I didn't want Tony or my father seeing me like this, but that was too late. When the elevator opened up both Tony and my father was in it. "Kelly, what's wrong?" My father asked me, then he seen the folder in my arms. "Ryan. Morrow gave you Ryan's folder." He asked me. "Yea, he said since you told him about me breaking down last night about Ryan, that I should go see his parents." My father nodded. "Ryan's one of your old agents, wasn't he boss?" "Yes he was. And my boyfriend." I had said. "But no one knew about us, other then his parents I guess." "I kinda knew, just didn't say anything." "Only because when I video called he would run up there to talk to me." I said chuckling a little. "Boss thought you had a rule, no dating coworkers?" Tony said. I looked at him. "We wasn't coworkers. I never worked for NCIS, just helped out while I was overseas. So it didn't count, Tony." I told him. "But I did have a rule about my agents dating my daughter though. And he knew about it, but I kept my mouth shut." My father told me. "Well, that was one good thing about it." I said laughing at my father. "But I gotta go, I'll pick you up around between 6 and 7." I told him as I hit the elevator button. He nodded and the doors opened. "So that means I can't get a chance with you then." Tony had said when I walked in. My father had slapped him in the back of his head as the doors were closing. I smiled and shook my head. I left the building and head to my car. I opened the file back up again and stared at the picture of Ryan. I touched his face, his lips. "God, I miss you." I had said out loud. "Every single day, Ryan." I flipped over the picture and found his parents address. It wasn't that far from my house just a few blocks away. So I drove like I was going home and turned down the streets to get to their house. When I had pulled up, there was an older woman working in the yard. When I got out of the car, she looked up at me. As I was walking towards her, she got up. "Hello. Are you Renee? Ryan's mother?" I had asked. "Yes, I am. What can I help you with?" She asked me. "I know you don't know me, but I'm pretty sure you have heard of me from your son." I started to say. "Are you Kelly?" She asked me. "Yes, ma'am." I told her. "Oh my." She said. "Ryan said you were in the military? When did you get out?" She had asked me. "Yesterday, ma'am." I told her. "My father's boss, he's was like a grandfather to me, he gave me Ryan's folder with you address and told me to come see you." I told her. "Oh, why did he give you his folder for?" She had asked me, as she was taking off her work gloves and sat on the porch swing. "Leat night, I had an flashback of what had happened to Ryan. My father was working on his boat and knocked his tools off his table and it made it freak out and," I started to say then looked away. "I know it's hard, sweety. PTSD isn't fun to mess around with." She told me as she patted my leg. "No it isn't." I told her. "I felt like I relived what had happened that day, he saved my life in my basement. I broke down to my father. He had helped me through it. I thought what I had went through losing my mother at a young age was bad, I think this was worse." I told her. "Do you mind telling me what had happened dear? That's if you want too." "Sure, my father told me its good to talk about it sometimes. That it helps." I told her. I took a deep breathe and looked out to the sky. Watching the birds fly around before I started telling her what had happened. "We was out searching for a man when our convoy got ambushed. The truck that Ryan and I were in got sent flying and landed on its top. Ryan got out and helped me out of the truck. Me, Ryan, and what men I had left, ran to a huge rock started shooting. The man we were looking for, was walking behind us. Shoot one of my men that was next to me, blood went all over me. When I saw what had happened, I turned around and saw the man. I went to shoot him but my rifle was jammed. The man went to shoot me, but Ryan had saw that coming, ran over to me to save my life, getting himself shoot. When I saw that, I grabbed my pistol and shoot the man in the head and ran over to Ryan. Telling him to stay with me. He took his last breathe, telling me he loved me. I couldn't even say it back to him." I had told her. "I wanted to come back to DC to take care of him, but I had orders that I couldn't. And I am so very sorry." I finished telling her. "Honey, no I get it. My husband, Ryan's father was in the military so I know how that goes with the whole orders thing." She told me as he rubbed my hand. "I loved your son, deeply. We kept it a secret from my father, who was his boss, for about 8 years. He found out fully last night." I told her. "He had a feeling something was up, when I would video call NCIS when I was overseas. But he didn't say anything." "Well you seem a really nice, smart young lady. Thank you for visiting me. I don't get much visitors, since my husband and Ryan died." She told me. "When did your husband die?" I had asked. "About 6 years ago, he had a heart attack. Ryan moved in with me to help me out around the house. My sister's, kids and grandchildren come over and help me." She told me. "That's nice of them." I said. "I live only a few blocks from here. Maybe I'll come by and visit you when I can. I'm going to be working with my father at NCIS now since I came back." "That is sweet of you to help out." She told me as she pat my hand. We sat and talked about everything. She had told me what Ryan told her about me. She said I was prettier than he described me as. She made a little joke, about me and Ryan having a little one, it would have gave her some peace of mind, of having grandchildren. Ryan was her only child. I felt bad for her because of that. Ryan was her only baby, and he is didn't have any kids. As the sun was setting, I had noticed what time it was. It was about that time to pick up my father. I told her my goodbyes and that I'll see her when I can. I gave her my house phone and work phone, told her to call me if anything happens. Until I can get me a phone. When I got to NCIS, Tony and him were packing their bags, ready to leave. When I walked over to them, they looked at me. They both smiled at me. "Did you get you a phone yet?" My father asked me. "No, I forgot when I was at Walmart. I'll get one tonight, if your willing to come with me." "No, we're off to another lead. I'm sorry. I was going to call the house but I didn't know if you would have been there." He told me. I sighed. "Okay," I'll call you when I have a phone. Its still the same right?" Tony laughed. "He gets a new phone every month and still keeps the same number." I shook my head and laughed. That's my father for yea. Always breaking his phones. We all head to the elevators and went down to main floor. They went their way and I went mine. As I left I wen back to Walmart to get me a phone. When I got there I went to the back, and picked me out a phone. I found a few cute ones but that doesn't matter. I was thinking of getting one for just work but I changed my mind. I'll stick with one. A guy came over to me to see if I needed help. "Do you need help?" He asked me. "Yes and no." I said at him smiling. "I would like to set up a new phone. I'll take the Motorola RAZER V3." I told him as I was pointing to the phone. "Yes, ma'am." I reached my shirt up a little, to grab my card, in my pants pocket. When I done that you could see my gun and the guy froze a little. When I seen him do that. I grabbed my badge with my card. I showed him my badge. "I'm a cop, so you don't have to be afraid of my gun." "It's not just that. I was robbed at gun point awhile back and it freaks me out sometimes when I see someone outside of uniform with a gun on them." He told me as he looked at my badge. "Your an NCIS agent?" He asked. "Yep." "My best friend was an NCIS agent. Until he died." He told me. "Oh, I'm sorry. What was his name?" I asked. "His name was Ryan." He said. I froze for a moment afraid to say anything. "What's wrong? Did you know him?" I nodded. I started to tear up. Today wasn't gonna let me up from him was it. "How did you know him?" "I had known him since I was 13 years old. He worked with my father." I said. "Wait your Kelly?" He asked me. "Yea, how did you know?" I asked. "He's told me so much about you." He told me. "Like what?" I asked as he was typing away on his computer. "How pretty you were, that he's had a crush on you since you were 17 years old, but he couldn't do anything about it. Because you were his bosses daughter." He was saying. "Then he told me you had gone into the military after college. Where it was harder on him, 'cause he couldn't see you anymore. But he did tell me y'all did video chat at work and wrote letters." "Yea, we did." I said. "That will be $103.79" he told me. "I gave you a 5 year warranty." "Good, Ima need it, expressly with my work." I said smiling a little. After I paid, he had handed me a card with my number in it and told me every month on the 1st to pay my phone bill of $55 a month. "I'll tell you this, he told me when he had somewhat asked you out in the letters, that he didn't know how to say it. His room was a mess with balled up paper. I was with him when he was writing on of his letter." He said as he handed me my bag of paperwork that the phone came with. "I told him to write you a poem." "That was you that told him to do that. That was the sweetest poem ever. I read that poem every night before I went to bed." I said. "Did you." He said smiling. "Hey here's my number we should catch up and hang. We can talk about Ryan about the good times." "Umm, sure. It might help me sleep." "What do you mean, you can't sleep?" "No, not since the day he died in my arms." I told him. "Wait what? He died in you arms?" "Yea, he came overseas on a mission for NCIS and my men and I with Ryan got ambushed. I lost Ryan and half my men that day. Ryan saved my life from getting shot." I told him. "Oh my god. I didn't know he was overseas when he died. His mother said he died doing his job, saving people. His mother told me that he received a metal of honor for saving a military woman but I didn't know it was you that he saved." He said sounding shock. "Yep, that was the day he told me he loved me on his last breathe. It still haunts me to this day." I said, looking away. "I seen his mother a few hours ago, I don't get why she didn't tell me they gave her his metal of honor." I had asked, but it wasn't really a question it was more like a rhetorical question. "She probably forgot." He told me. "What was you name again?" I had asked. Never really knowing who I was talking to. "Joseph. But my friends call me Joey." He told me. "Well, Joey I'm gonna add your number and I'll text you mine. Maybe tomorrow we can go see Renee together and I don't know take her out to lunch." I told him. "Yea, what time?" He asked. "Do you work tomorrow?" I asked him. "Nope, I'm off." "How about around 2 pm." 'That's prefect. I'll meet you that." "Great. You wouldn't have her number will you." I had asked as I sent him a text after he handed me his number. "Yea, I'll text it to you." "Great. See you then. I'm heading back to the office." I told him as I patted his hand. He nodded and I walked away. As I was walking to my car, I had called my dad. He didn't answer so I sent him a text. I headed back to NCIS head quarters and went to the 3rd floor, where Abby was talking to Tony and my father. No wonder he didn't answer me. I walked past them and headed up to Morrow office. I didn't even asked Veronica if he was in or busy. I just went in. He was on the phone with someone when I came in. He put up his pointer finger up to tell me to hold on. When he got of the phone he looked at me. "Since when do you come on in?" He asked me. "Well since I can whenever I want, since its my grandfather." I told him as I sat down. "You had to pull the grandfather card didn't you." He said chuckling. "You sure are your father's daughter." "Yep I am. But that's not why I'm here." I said as I grabbed a pen and a notepad. I wrote down my number to him. "Here you go." I said as I handed him back his notepad and pen. "What's this?" He asked as he picked up the notepad. He looked at it for a moment. "Is this your number." "Yep, just got me a new phone." I told him. "And I went and saw Renee, she's doing okay. Said that her sister's children and grandchildren check up on her." I told him. "We talked about Ryan. She never knew the story about how he died. Or what became of it. She just knew he died saving someone's life. Doing his job." "We try not to tell them the whole story to help save their feels. Its hard to explain." "Thomas, I get it. But still." I told him. "I ran into Ryan's best friend, at Walmart when I was getting my phone. He had told me, that they gave Renee Ryan's metal of honor." I said. "Yea, he received it for saving your life. She also received a flag as well, since he was part of the military, police personal. I made sure he got well taken care of. Not just for your sakes, but his mother's and NCIS as well. He was one of our best agents, Kelly. I get he was your boyfriend, but he was your father's top man. Why don't you think your father didn't say a damn word about you two. When he found out. I knew right then and there, when Ryan first started coming to intercom room to talk to you. Your father couldn't stop it, 'cause you was his world. If anyone was to keep you happy and safe, it was Ryan." He told me as he walked over to me. He was right, I was my fathers world and Ryan was his top dog. If Ryan couldn't keep me happy or safe, no one could. He put his hand on my shoulder and smiled. Morrow knew me and better than anyone other than my father. He knew what exactly how, when, where, anything about anyone just by looking at them. I see where my father had learned that. And you had to know those things if you want to be the beat damn NCIS agent to work here at this NCIS head quarters. If not then go find another NCIS head quarters. I know there was a lot of talking in this chapter but sometimes its good for that. But hope y'all still enjoy it. The next chapter might be a little short it might not. Read on and you will find out.
