Macy
I looked up into those beautiful blue eyes as they stared at my brother. ”Your..um sister?” His deep voice went high at the end. “Right, right, I’m Jace, Micha’s roommate. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” My eyes lock with his and I have trouble forming the words to speak. He reaches out his hand to shake mine. When we touch, a zap goes through my whole body like static shock. Micha must have noticed something between us because he cleared his throat. “Jace, this is my BABY sister, Macy” Jace looks back at Micha and drops my hand. I instantly felt a loss for his touch.
Just then, Eden turns and looks between Jace and me with a big goofy grin on her face. She whispered in my ear “Well, things are about to get interesting!” Micha snapped his head in her direction with a questioning look on his face. Jace just smiled and asked what I had volunteered for with the program. I told him I signed up to be a pen pal and would write to the person who I draw. In a hushed tone he said “luck be with me.”
After we made a formal introduction, Eden took Micha by the arm and they walked away from Jace and I. ‘Thank God for good friends.’ Jace turned and looked at me again when our eyes met, I could not look away this time. “Hi”, “Hi” I said back. “You want to go for a walk?” “Sure.” Jace took my hand in his and just as we were about to walk out the back door of the rec-room Beta Paul called for me from across the room. I looked down and realized I was still holding hands with Jace at the same time he did the same and drop my hand like a hot potato. “Sorry” he said, “No problem, I guess I need to see what Bata Paul is needing.”
The further I walked away from Jace I sensed my life was about to change, just wonder if it will be for good or bad.
As I approach Bata Paul, he smiles down at me and says “It’s time to draw names for the pen pal.” I look up at him and ask if I can just pick Jace to be my pen pal since we have already met, and he is roommates with my brother. That way he can keep in touch with Micha through me.” Bata Paul apologized and said he could not do that. It would not be fair to all the other people if I got to pick my person and they have to draw out of a hat. I agreed and went to the table to draw out who I would write to for the next year.
As I am walking away from the table Edan comes up to me gushing about how good looking Jace is, and did she see I was holding his hands. I could feel my face heating and knew I was probably as red as the hair on her head. I told her we were going to go for a walk when her dad interrupted. She asked if I got to just pick his name for the pen pal and I said, “No, your dad strikes again.” I then open my hand to see who I picked praying it would be Jace, but no luck. The name I draw was a female by the name of Sarah, who left out yesterday for her deployment. Great, not only did I not get Jace, but now I have to write someone I have never and will never meet. “Just my luck.”
I heard some of the other girls giggling in the corner and heard Jace Brown’s name and one girl, the worst girl gushing about how she was going to love writing him and maybe even more while he was so far away. “Ugh!! Mona!!” Edan gave me a comforting small and said “maybe you could just write him anyway as an extra pal.” I don’t know why Mona made me so mad. So she got Jace, big deal! It’s not like I have a claim over him or anything. Just that thought made me angry. I want to walk over to her and rip that name out of her hand. ‘Wow, what is wrong with me?’ I have never felt this way before. Man, what is going on. Eden pulled me out of my thoughts, to point out that Micha was pulling Jace out of the room. They were in a big hurry. Again, that little voice in my head was pulling me towards Jace.
Jace
After Mr. Paul pulled Macy away, Micha came running up to me saying we had to leave. There was an urgent team meeting and Coach was trying to get us all together at the school. I looked all over the place for Macy as Micha dragged me by my arm out of the rec-room hall. Just as I am walking out the door, It felt as if something was pulling me back in the room. I have never felt this way about a girl at first sight. It was like a magnet with pulling to her.
As we exit and get back into my truck Micha told me there has been an urgent call for all available non-attached men and women to join any branch of the military to go overseas to help with the war. Micha has volunteered to join with me, the rest of the team are being asked in the meeting we are heading to.
As we arrive at the football meeting room, the coach was already up front with some recruiters from all branches of the military. Micha raised his hand as a volunteer and join the same branch as myself the Marines. I told him good luck in basic, as I would leave out tomorrow and not be able to see him for a while. I can only hope and pray we get stationed close together when he arrives overseas.
