Watching the intricate dance of flames and listening to the crackle of the fire were all that Mia could focus on to keep herself awake. Her lids were heavy and drooped in their desire to rest but she jolted awake each time and refocused on the heat before her. She was huddled in an unfamiliar location, and now that she was alone she didn’t dare try to sleep. With how exhausted she was, she wasn’t sure her body would wake her if danger appeared. It wasn’t the time to sleep no matter how much her body ached for it.
