I was hungry when Wave came, inviting me to join Spade over dinner. If his boss wanted to have dinner with me, he could come up and ask me himself. Besides, this was his home, his rules, his food. At least, show me how to be a good host.
Later on, I realized why he left so suddenly and never came back. That everything had happened between us was just a part of the agreement. He only wanted a wife who could satisfy him in bed and accompany him to events. Then it was time for me to set some ground rules for myself that I shouldn’t do anything beyond that scope, since he made things clear when we signed the agreement. So that was all he got from me.
