The applause still echoed in Nyamal’s ears as she stepped offstage. Sweat clung to her skin, but it wasn’t the performance that made her tremble — it was the look on Producer X’s face.
He was waiting.
His suit was immaculate, his smile sharp as a blade. The man who had stolen her father’s music, his empire built on lies.
“Beautiful voice,” he said, his tone dripping with false charm. “But dangerous lyrics.”
Nyamal met his gaze, refusing to flinch. “Truth is always dangerous.”
Malek appeared at her side, confused. “Dad, what’s going on?”
Producer X’s eyes flicked to his son, then back to Nyamal. “This girl is playing with fire. And you’re too blind to see it.”
Nyamal’s pulse raced. She wanted to scream, to expose him right there, but the timing wasn’t right. Not yet.
Instead, she smiled. “Fire can burn. But it can also light the way.”
Later that night, Malek confronted her in the studio. His voice was low, urgent.
“What did my father mean? Why was he so… shaken?”
Nyamal hesitated. The truth pressed against her lips, but fear held it back. If she revealed everything now, she risked losing Malek before she had the chance to destroy his father.
“I sang a song that wasn’t mine,” she said carefully. “It belonged to someone else. Someone your father wronged.”
Malek frowned. “Wronged? My father built this industry. He’s respected.”
Nyamal’s laugh was bitter. “Respected by those who don’t know the truth.”
Mama Abuk’s words echoed in her mind: Revenge is a fire. It burns the hand that holds it.
But Nyamal couldn’t let go. Not when she was this close.
She pulled out an old cassette tape, worn and cracked. “This is my father’s voice. Listen.”
Malek pressed play. The room filled with a melody — haunting, familiar. His eyes widened.
“That’s the song you sang tonight,” he whispered.
Nyamal nodded. “Yes. My father wrote it. Your father stole it.”
Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.
Malek’s jaw tightened. “You’re saying my father is a thief?”
“I’m saying he’s a liar,” Nyamal shot back. “And I won’t let him bury my father’s legacy.”
Malek turned away, torn between loyalty and truth. “If this is true… then everything I know about him is a lie.”
Nyamal stepped closer. “You have a choice, Malek. Stand with me, or stand with him.”
Malek’s phone buzzed. A message from Producer X: Stay away from her. She will destroy us.
Malek stared at the screen, heart pounding. For the first time, he didn’t know whose side he was on.
Flashback: Nyamal’s Father
Nyamal remembered the night her father’s career ended. He had been promised a contract, a chance to record his masterpiece. Instead, Producer X took the song, claimed it as his own, and left her father penniless.
She remembered the way he sat in their small living room, staring at the radio as his melody played under another man’s name. His hands shook, his voice broke, and his dreams died that night.
Nyamal clenched her fists. She would not let history repeat itself.
Back in the studio, Malek paced. “If what you’re saying is true, then my father has built his empire on lies. But why now? Why you?”
Nyamal’s eyes burned. “Because I’m the only one left to fight. My father is gone. My mother is gone. All I have is my voice — and I’ll use it to make him pay.”
Malek stopped pacing. His gaze softened. “And what about us?”
Nyamal froze. The question cut deeper than she expected. “Us?”
“Yes,” Malek said. “You and me. Because I feel something when I’m with you. Something real. But if you’re only here to destroy my family…”
Nyamal’s throat tightened. She wanted to tell him the truth, to confess everything. But the fire of revenge roared louder.
“I don’t know what we are,” she whispered. “But I know what I have to do.”
Malek’s phone buzzed again. Another message from his father: Bring her to me. Tonight.
Malek looked at Nyamal, torn. “He wants to see you.”
Nyamal’s lips curved into a cold smile. “Good. Let him.”
Producer X waits in his office, a glass of whiskey in hand. He knows Nyamal is coming. He knows she carries secrets.
But what he doesn’t know is that she carries proof.
And tonight, she plans to use it.
