I felt Axel’s tongue slip effortlessly across the tip of my own. I tilted my head and opened my mouth wide enough for Axel to take that as the acceptance he so desperately wanted to be able to kiss me more deeply. Axel whimpered hotly with eager relief when he buried his long rough tongue in the wet warmth of my mouth, pulling me so close he was almost inhaling me.
I just let Axel lick hungrily inside me. I tried to tip my head back to present my throat but Axel pushed one of his hands up, curling his fingers in the soft hair at the back of my head so he could hold me fixed against his mouth.
It felt like the Alpha was determined he wouldn't let himself be ruled by instinct anymore. Not with me. I was too important.
Axel’s other hand slipped around my back, and he spread his palm across the dip of my spine and gave my entire body one quick jerk forward to pull me in.
We were so close that I could feel Axel’s heartbeat vibrating against my chest.
I could hear my own little hums of pleasure resonating in Axel’s mouth and it made me tremble inside. It was so different from the uncontrollable animalistic need that had consumed my senses the night before. This was something else and Axel’s hands were gentle as they caressed me, his kiss now soft and almost worshipful.

“Axel?” Lucas suddenly called as he appeared in the doorway but stopped cold when he saw what Axel and Cassandra were doing.
Lucas blinked wide, his expression a mixture of so many conflicting emotions it made him look more comically alarmed than anything else. His top lip was hitched up at one side like he thought he should maybe now explain why he had interrupted such a beautiful moment. The image itself had managed to format the hard drive in his brain and prevent him from even remembering what he wanted in the first place.
“s**t… sorry.” He mumbled, and disappeared again.
Axel heard his brother collide with the table in his haste to retreat and a muffled curse followed by.
They eventually pulled apart and Axel licked his lips to savor every last taste of Cassandra’s mouth on his own. Cassandra turned her head to see if Lucas was still watching them.
“Oh... that was awkward…” The Omega whispered quietly, pulling her mouth down at one corner.
“Only for him,” Axel replied, green eyes smiling when they briefly flicked back over to the door.
The Alpha and Omega both laughed gently at the embarrassment of being caught making out, soon falling back into comfortable silence.
“So...” Axel deliberately changed the tone of his voice to try and convince himself the silky slide of Cassandra’s pliant tongue against his own hadn’t left him achingly hard again and painfully desperate for more. “How are you feeling this morning?”
“A little better, thank you.” Cassandra added politely, leaning back against the pillow to put some space between them. She seemed to hesitate before asking the question that had been on her mind since she woke up. “What about you? Are you alright?”
Axel glanced away. It was the first time he hadn’t been able to look directly at her since he came home. He knew exactly what Cassandra was hinting at and just because it remained unspoken, didn’t mean they weren't both completely aware of what had happened when Axel had been close to losing control.
What could have happened.
“I’m… managing it,” Axel said slowly. He knew Cassandra probably wondered why he would reply in such a strange way. Alex himself didn’t feel like that was really an answer at all but she remained calm and didn’t push him. “I’m sorry if I scared you last night...” Axel continued. “That’s not me, you know.”
Cassandra smiled softly at him. To Axel’s surprise she reached forward and wrapped her fingers around the side of Axel’s hand, giving it one determined squeeze of comfort before pulling away again.
“I know, Axel and I appreciate it. Please don’t think I don’t,” Cassandra answered softly.
They heard a gentle knock on the door and a disembodied but deliberate cough from somewhere outside the room. After allowing them a few seconds of grace to move apart, Lucas’s shaggy head gradually appeared at the side of the door frame.
“Axel?” Lucas attempted again, a quick jerk of his head implying he hadn’t actually finished cussing his brother out. The tops of his cheekbones were still flushed pink and the most he could manage after having to witness Axel sucking Cassandra’s face was to spare the other person a polite nod. “Cas,”
“Hello, Lucas…” Cassandra replied quietly, twisting her fingers together while she stared at her hands. “Thank you for everything you did for me last night. I can’t tell you how grateful I am.”
“It’s no problem,” Lucas smiled, but he still seemed distracted and clearly desperate to talk with Axel, so Cassandra decided to leave them to it and try to go back to sleep. They could tell she was still physically exhausted and emotionally drained, and all her muscles ached.
“I think I’m being summoned.” Axel whispered with a smirk, when he leaned in. “Will you be alright?”
Cassandra smiled and nodded and settled snugly back under the sheets. She had closed her eyes before Axel even finished speaking.
Axel took a moment just to look at her. Sometimes it didn’t feel like it was real at all. If someone had told him a few days ago that everything he ever wanted would be lying asleep in his bed, he would have told them they needed to up their meds.
Axel carefully pulled the sheet over her and smoothed it down tenderly to make sure Cassandra wouldn’t get cold again. Axel leaned forward and planted one last delicate kiss to her temple.
“I’ll come check on you soon, I promise.” He breathed. Cassandra hummed sleepily into the pillow, but she didn’t reply.
Lucas was waiting for Axel just outside the door, and he didn’t need to use mere words to convey how pissed he was.
A look of utter distaste was stretched tightly across his face.
“Close the door,” Lucas said quietly, gesturing behind him. Axel frowned.
“Why? I don't need to. Cas’ gone back to sleep.”
“Axel. Close the door.” His brother’s tone was so insistent, Axel felt compelled to do as he was told and reached blindly behind him for the handle. He tried to be as quiet as possible so he wouldn’t disturb Cassandra, slowly pulling it shut until it clicked into place.
“What the hell are you doing?” Lucas asked through clenched teeth, when he deemed it safe to talk.
“Nothing,” Axel replied with a shrug, but Lucas was in no mood to humor him.
“Really, Axel? That’s the best you’ve got? Nothing?” Oh God, his brother was definitely pouting. Axel thought.
The older of the two guessed whatever had riled him so spectacularly, implied he was in some serious s**t and it was probably best not to antagonize him any further.
Lucas was only a beta, and a big one at that, so Axel technically outclassed him but there was no doubt as to who had the authority right now.
“Come over here, I need to show you something,” Lucas said. “Then we’ll see if it’s nothing.” His voice seemed to have lost its bitter edge, and now he looked more concerned than angry.
They both pulled out a chair and settled at the table. Lucas’ laptop was still open and resting precariously on top of a pile of paper. Even with a brief glance, Axel could see he had earmarked several pages in the lore book. Next to it there was a writing pad that had many notes and symbols scrawled messily right up to the corners. Lucas had highlighted some of the words in red.
“Busy night?” Axel tried amiably. He reached down for his book but Lucas smacked his hand away and glared at him from underneath a long fringe.
“Right, big brother,” Lucas said flatly. “There’s something you need to know, and you’re gonna have to pay attention so start listening.”
“Okay... jeez.” Axel muttered. “Just remember I haven’t had any sleep, so be nice.”
Lucas gave him a subtle look of warning. He had only managed to catch an hour at best and his eyes still ached from reading.
“What do you know about female omegas? Really? Apart from the fact you want to mate that one in there.” He added, nodding towards Axel’s bedroom. Axel had no idea why he would open his predictable lecture with such a stupid question.
“What do you mean? Know about them?” Axel asked. Lucas reached for the book. He opened a well-worn page and presented it to Axel.
“As you may not know, I actually sat up with Cassandra most of last night and went through this section on omega types, and these subconscious responses to potential mates you kept blabbing on about. Here.” Lucas said, prodding hard at the particular section of text he wanted Axel to read.
There were several minutes of long, tense silence as Axel plodded through the paragraph. He was a slow reader at the best of times, but now he was actually trying to absorb information as well, it was taking much longer than Lucas had anticipated.
After a few impatient sighs and a couple of raps on the table with his fingertips he snatched the book away and dismissed his brother with one hand. “You know how rare Cassandra is? Like you thought you would never find one to claim?” Lucas asked rhetorically. Axel just nodded.
“Well according to this, and it is just speculation, Axel, we have no real evidence that any of this stuff is genuine. In here it says there are actually two types of omega. Female ones obviously, because the males are biologically distinct anyway. There are the commonly accepted ones, and then there are these others that have certain characteristics that make them different.” Lucas said the last word diplomatically and took a deep breath. He knew exactly why they were different, but the look of stunned bewilderment that was painted on Axel’s face suggested even that might be a little too much for him to take in before noon.
Axel stopped him, his mouth hanging open. He had a sense this was going somewhere he might not like, and Lucas was talking too much again. They were all just long words strung together and he needed Lucas to hurry up and explain. Anything that could potentially threaten his future with Cassandra made Axel feel sick to his stomach, and he wanted answers now.
“Lucas, what are you trying to say? f***s sake just spit it out, already. You’re making me dizzy.”
Lucas raised both arms in defeat.
“Fine. Long and short of it, Axel. You did this to her.” Axel was still staring at him with blank eyes, and Lucas had to count to ten in his head. “When you marked her to see if she would respond, I think you set free a biological response that flooded the poor woman with everything she’s been trying to suppress for years, but it’s not just that. That wasn’t a normal heat last night. That was something entirely inconsistent with everything we think we know about them. According to this, I think Cas might be a special type of omega that’s detailed in here. It says they're so rare, only several cases have ever been documented but… well. I didn’t imagine what happened last night. What I think - ”
Lucas paused, like he was trying to choose an appropriate way of phrasing his opinion that wasn’t going to freak Axel out completely. “ - is that you pushed her into a mating cycle.” Lucas managed at last. “I think she could be one of these extinct ones, and you just made her fertile.”
