Chapter Seventeen

“Hush up, Cas,” He smiled softly. “You’ve done nothing wrong.” Cassandra shifted nervously under the sheet and Axel sucked hard on his cheek while he waited for her to say something else. Axel knew Cassandra was still dripping wet, so he discreetly turned away from the window and headed for the bathroom to retrieve a couple of towels to help him dry her hair. He bundled them together and held them over the front of his jeans as he walked back over to the bed, and sat down cautiously on the very edge. Axel passed the towels to Cassandra and the omega smiled gratefully, but just held them loosely in her hands where they were still resting on top of the sheet. Axel had to physically wrap one hand around her wrist and lift up her arm. The alpha smiled at the way Cassandra seemed to be too distracted by his presence to even manage such a simple task. “Here,” Axel pushed the wad of material against her damp hair, patting at the drying strands when he leaned forward. “You’re gonna get cold.” Cassandra covered Axel’s hand with her own and they rubbed at her wet hair together with Cassandra still seemed unable to let go. “You don’t have to stay with me, you know,” Cassandra said suddenly, but there was something more hidden behind those words. Almost like she was trying to find some reason why Axel would even care to invest so much time in her. Their eyes met in the moment of silence that followed, and Axel felt his heart skip. He tenderly massaged the water from Cassandra's hair. “I know…” He said quietly. “I don’t stay because I think I should, Cas. I stay because I want to.” Cassandra continued to watch him, leaning into the movement of his hand where it was rubbing against her head. He wanted to ask why, but it didn’t seem like the right moment. She continued to let Axel manipulate the dark locks of hair in his fingers while he teased it back into place. “There, all done.” Axel said simply, finally letting his hand fall. The look in Cassandra’s eyes while Axel had played with her hair was pure bliss and submission and Axel felt an overwhelming swell of instinctive need to dominate again. He could feel his manhood growing before he had the chance to stop it, and shuffled uneasily on the bed in the hope Cassandra wouldn’t notice how badly he wanted her. Axel had spent almost every minute since they met fighting the desire to bite her , and he wasn't going to let himself give in now. He encouraged Cassandra to lie down and get warm with a muttered excuse of going to clean up the bathroom and try to dry out her clothes a bit so she wouldn’t be more uncomfortable than she already was. Axel had to get away and relieve some of the burning discomfort that always seemed to plague him when he thought about all the things he would like to do to Cassandra. He was eager to get her settled again. Axel almost stumbled to the bathroom and away from the seductive provocation Cassandra cast over him. The door hardly closed behind him before Axel was unfastening his jeans with desperate, shaky fingers. The consuming need to release all the s****l tension that had built up mercilessly over the last couple of days was bordering on painful, and he was fully hard before he even managed to pull his d**k out his pants. Axel knew what he was about to do was going to be really messy. He'd been holding it all back for days. He could feel his pulse throbbing against his palm when he took his heavy length in one hand and steadied himself against the back wall with the other. He could feel the rush of blood shoot up to his neck, the sound of his own arousal pounding in his ears. His heartbeat was thumping dangerously fast while he whipped his hand up and down his d**k at a brutal pace. There was no desire to make it last and he couldn’t wait to empty himself with Cassandra’s name hanging on his lips. Axel tightened his grip, continuing to pump relentlessly into his fist until he could feel the sensation intensify and rise up like a storm. He heard himself moan through muffled curses when wet heat was forced out with an explosive pressure that felt like it came from deep inside him. He rarely in his life experienced such a blissful sense of relief. His fingertips clawed at the wall, a wave of pleasure running through him while he gasped in breaths of sweat-filled air until he felt strong enough to stand alone. His knot was slightly swollen, but not enough to floor him completely so he tucked himself back in and turned on the tap. Axel washed his hands and gathered up some cold water in cupped hands and splashed his face until he could feel the warm burn of his cheeks subside, he then stood up and wiped one hand across the surface of the mirror to wipe away the mist that had accumulated from his hot breaths. The alpha examined his face in the streak and turned his head from side to side to make sure he didn’t look too much like he had just had a frantic jerk off session in another person’s bathroom. The only evidence was a bright spark of gratification shining out from behind his eyes. Axel was still leaking with the surge of aftershocks, adjusting his softening d**k before he went back out into the corridor. He headed back to Cassandra’s bedroom and blinked in surprise when he saw she wasn't there. He called her name while his eyes scanned the corners of the room, in case he had somehow missed her. “In here,” Came a faint response from down the hall. Axel was guided by the sound until he found Cassandra in the kitchen, pouring out two large cups of coffee. She had her back to him and was clothed only in shorts and a snug t-shirt that fitted her slender body perfectly. Axel slipped both arms around her waist and pressed his face into the dip of her shoulder. Cassandra squirmed at the sensation and moved one hand down to wrap her fingers around Axel’s where they were joined across her stomach. Cassandra turned slowly until they were facing each other and she looked up at him with a soft expression that was the closest to affection Axel had ever seen on her. The omega then pushed herself up on her tip toes and pressed a modest kiss against Axel's cheek. “Thank you, Axel.” “For what?” He asked, not sure Cassandra should really be thanking him for anything at all. “Everything,” Axel just smiled in response and tapped his fingers against Cassandra’s stomach through the material of his shirt. “You smell nice…” Cassandra continued vaguely, like it was a stray thought she accidentally said out loud. Axel had a pretty good idea what it was she picked up on and he couldn’t help the burst of laughter that escaped his mouth. “Oh, thanks, Cas.” They took leisurely sips from their cups of coffee in silence, and Axel could tell Cassandra was over-thinking stuff again. “I should really go back to work tonight, Axel. I can’t live on fresh air and people will only be more suspicious if I stay away.” “No, Cas,” Axel said firmly. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Not now we know.” “Know… what?” Cassandra asked slowly, and Axel remembered she hadn't been present during the conversation with Lucas. His brother seemed fairly certain Cassandra had no idea she was more unique than even she had anticipated. He wondered aimlessly if Gabriel had known, or suspected it at least. Axel felt a burst of anger at the thought Cassandra’s brother had sent her into the world with nothing, and no one to protect her. Until now. Axel proudly embraced the idea he was going to be the one to fill that role with honor. “Axel,” Cassandra started, setting her cup down on the counter. “I don’t need your permission, and I’m not sure what you mean by that, so please explain.” “Nothing to explain, Cas. You were pretty upset earlier. I just want to make sure you’ll be alright,” Axel hoped that didn’t count as a lie. He neglected to mention the possibility Cassandra could now be giving off potent hormones that would objectify her and draw in anyone who just wanted to use her as a nameless breeding tool. Her brother was right, Cassandra deserved so much better. Lucas had implied it was Axel's scent claim that had pushed her into it, and he couldn’t even deal with that. Not yet. He had no right to tell Cassandra what to do. Axel hoped with everything he had that one day Cassandra would let her alpha claim her for life. He was so desperate to bite her and keep her safe. “No, you’re right…” Axel sighed. “I can’t tell you what to do, but I can tell you that I’m only doing it because I - ” He stopped suddenly and coughed, rubbing at the base of his neck. Too soon. “I just want you to be okay.” Axel quickly corrected himself from what he really wanted to say. Cassandra was still looking up at him and Axel ran his finger gently down one side of her face. “Be safe, Cas. Call me later, okay?” Axel added, just before he left. *** I agreed with a smile. The door clicked shut and I missed him almost immediately. I washed up the cups and threw the wet towels in the laundry before picking out some fresh clothes for work. The minute I started to think about going outside on my own again, I could feel a wave of nausea sweep against the inside of my stomach but I pushed the feeling away as best I could. I straightened up the bedroom and checked the time on my phone. I had no idea when I left that evening that my brother would be waiting for me when I came home.
