Chapter Twenty Three

2139 Words
“I’m not leaving, Axel. I want to stay here with you.” The small space between their mouths was filled with desperate gasps of air while Axel fought to keep his hands above Cassandra’s waist. “Do you mean it?” Axel asked. Hope curled inside his chest, spilling out from between his lips before he could stop himself from sounding so desperate. “Yes.” “Oh, Cas…” Axel panted, pushing Cassandra against the door with the force of his body and devouring her open mouth with careless, hungry kisses. *** It felt like Axel was trying to pull out all the tender promises from deep inside my body and swallow us down whole to keep us safe. I was grabbing for a better hold on Axel’s shoulders, trying to gather him in and touch as much of my alpha as I could. I had never let myself give in to so much unrestrained passion, but the realization Axel was prepared to fight for me sent a shiver of need through every part of my body. I clawed at the skin of Axel's neck to hold him still and let Axel explore my mouth with a warm, wet tongue. I felt Axel slide both hands across my ass and pick me up so I was wrapped around him. Axel hitched me up, and carried me through to his bedroom. Our mouths were still fixed together while Axel ran one arm up my spine and cradled the back of my head then he proceeded to drop me on top of the covers. When I finally pulled away, I could see that those alpha eyes were almost black with desire, the pink curves of Axel’s full lips shining with my kisses. I spread my legs and let Axel settle between my hips. The alpha moved his hands up and down my body and pressed me into the bed, pushing himself up on his arms so he could look down at me while he rutted our bodies together. I slipped my hands up into Axel’s hair and twisted a few of the longer lengths around my fingers which made Axel’s breath came out in a long stream of heat and want. I lowered my head until the ends of our noses were touching, rubbing the tips together in a gesture of intimate affection. *** Cassandra gently curled her hand around the curve of Axel’s back and pulled him down. Axel made a mumbled promise that was lost in Cassandra’s mouth when she forced it open again with a demanding kiss. Cassandra was pinned underneath him and Axel sucked on her tongue with a craving for more that seemed to come from somewhere deep inside him. He licked at the soft plaint lips of his omega and gently pulled the bottom one into his mouth. Cassandra chased the feeling when Axel pulled away for air. His mouth was tingling, little bolts of arousal shooting down his body and Axel was rigidly hard in no time with the sensation of Cassandra’s hips arching up against him. “Cas... you need to tell me to stop if you’re not ready. I don’t think I'll be able to control myself if we go any further... I want you. f**k, I want you so much.” Cassandra tilted her ass up when a sticky surge of slick ran down the inside of her thighs and soaked through the material of her shorts. A deep rumble of lust caught in Axel’s throat when he realized Cassandra was open and aroused because of him. He had invested so much time in trying to show his omega that he wasn’t just another one of those untamed creatures that haunted her nightmares… that he had more control of himself. That was why Axel forced himself to roll away and onto his side. He slipped one hand around Cassandra's back and started to mark her neck with soft moist bites that lightly grazed her skin, a shadowed promise of the sharp teeth that could take her in a heartbeat. “Don’t take those suppressants anymore, Cas,” Axel breathed against her, resisting the urge to shove his hand down the back of Cassandra’s shorts and feel the warm thick glide between his fingers. “They don’t seem to work on me anyway, and I don’t want you to have to hide what you are anymore. You’re so beautiful. I want the world to see you’re going to be mine.” Cassandra curled up and gently rested her head on Axel’s chest. Mine. That was the word that echoed in her thoughts while she snuggled into Axel and closed his eyes. *** I knew what I wanted now and I didn’t need to fight it anymore. I hummed quietly, murmuring Axel’s name in the darkness as I let myself be enveloped by the tender warmth of an arm around my waist and felt the peaceful rise and fall of Axel's chest beneath me. “Cas…” Axel added quietly. “I want us to be together forever...” I smiled against Axel’s body. “…and don’t think for one minute, that being different makes me want you any less.” I tensed. I heard Axel gasp at how carelessly he let those words slip out. “What?” “s**t!” I heard Axel curse through a whispered breath before pulling away to give him an accusatory stare. I didn’t blink at all while I searched Axel’s eyes. “Axel?” I prompted anxiously, a little mad now that I know he was hiding something about me from me. I could feel my heart rate start to creep up again. I was waiting for something more from Axel, but he was just watching me in silence. The green eyes sparkled in the dim light and I felt the arm around me tighten when Axel tried to drag me close again. I held back. I am not weak. “What do you mean ‘different’, Axel?” I asked slowly. I wasn't going to let Axel escape from explaining something like that. “Cas…” Axel began apologetically. I could feel the heat of his warm body move against me. “C’mere, please.” “No, Axel.” I said with a stubborn pout, sitting up a little more. My eyes were still fixed on Axel’s, but his arm had dropped away from my waist and was now resting limply across his lap. *** Axel could feel the little round bump of omega arousal pushing up into the skin of his arm. Cassandra had been so ready for him, but now he had ruined their special moment. Great, Axel. Axel wasn't used to having to be careful about what he said and had never really cared much before about diplomacy or tact, but his big mouth had almost cost him Cassandra’s trust on more than one occasion. He made a mental note that he really did need to try and think ahead when he was with her. “I… I didn’t really mean anything by it,” Axel stammered. He pushed his body up the bed and leaned heavily against the pillows, pulling up his legs and resting his elbows on his knees. He ran one hand through his hair. There was no way he was going to lie to her, but approaching something like that was going to be difficult and Axel really didn’t understand much of it himself either. Trying to tell Cassandra she looked like some fantasy in a lore book was almost impossible. He wished Lucas was there, despite the fact he was still pissed at him for balling him out earlier. “Listen,” Axel forced himself to look into Cassandra’s eyes again, stumbling to explain. “I’m sorry, okay? I shouldn’t have said that. I’m so tired, Cas, and stuff just falls out my mouth.” Cassandra’s expression seemed to soften slightly, but she kept her distance. She started to run the sheet through her fingers in a nervous gesture Axel actually found quite endearing. He sometimes forgot just how vulnerable Cassandra still was. It really wasn’t very long since she had been a bundle of restlessness and paranoia and Axel was secretly hopeful that it was in part, his care and affection that had helped her anxieties to fade. He had to help Cassandra be strong again so he could tell her exactly how he felt. He had to make sure she really wanted Axel to claim her. He didn’t want to just f**k and knot her to ensure she would belong to him and bear his mark forever. Axel wanted to make love to her. The beauty of those pictures in his head and in his dreams, where he imagined how he would watch Cassandra’s mouth fall open in silent pleasure when he pushed into her for the first time. How he could draw honeyed sounds from her lips as he licked and sucked while Cassandra fell apart beneath him. He wanted to touch every last part of that delicate pale skin and fill her up until she was begging for release. Axel had to force all those delicious images from his mind and stop himself from covering Cassandra with his body like he wanted to. He opened his mouth to say something else, when they both heard the front door slam. “Axel!” Lucas shouted. There was still a tense edge to his voice and Axel had to consciously pretend he forgot about their disagreement. He really needed his brother’s help. “In here! I’m with Cas,” Axel replied. He remembered to warn Lucas he wasn't alone after the last time he walked in on them making out. Now Axel was more concerned about the fact he was going to have to explain why he had been so interested in her in the first place. There might have once been some shred of pity that had drawn him to Cassandra, but not now. Somewhere deep inside, Axel knew he was hopelessly in love with her but the rest of him was still in denial. The tried and tested Harrison method of stopping himself from getting hurt. He had never wanted anything more than to spend his life with Cassandra and he couldn’t imagine it without her anymore. Axel made the decision to tell her everything and risk the consequences. “It’s okay. We’re not doing anything!” Axel called out. Sadly, he mentally added. He pushed himself up from the bed. Axel didn’t want to hide anything else from Cassandra, so he reached out one hand and flexed his fingers a few times to encourage her to take it. “Come with me, Cas. There’s something I need to show you.” Cassandra looked hesitant at first, but Axel’s expression was open and honest and she watched the movement of his hand with interest while it stretched out for her. The omega slipped her own hand into Axel’s and let him drag her up from the bed and into his waiting arms. He quickly wrapped himself around Cassandra and pinned her close. “Got ya,” Axel breathed against the side of her face, hands slipping down to curve around both sides of her waist and pull her in. “You cheated!” Cassandra smiled, inhaling a mouthful of air when he felt Axel’s erection rubbing forcefully against her hips. She averted his gaze and Axel cleared his throat. “Cas, I can’t lie…” Axel murmured, slipping the fingers of one hand into Cassandra’s back pocket. “I want to do some really bad things to you,” He heard Cassandra hold back a soft moan and Axel could see her eyes were sliding closed again. The scent of arousal was still heavy in the air. “But,” Axel said purposefully, adjusting himself while he tried to ignore the throbbing pulse of a swelling knot. “I want you to try and understand why you’re so important to me. I think you need to know everything,” Axel added, only pulling away so he could once again entwine Cassandra's hand with his own and lead her out of the bedroom. Lucas was waiting for them with his arms crossed over his chest. He glanced down, but if he noticed they were holding hands, he didn’t say anything. Axel nudged Cassandra forward with a gentle prod of encouragement. He gestured for her to take a seat at the table and kicked one of the chairs across the floor so she could sit as close to him as possible. He reached for her hand again. “Lucas,” Axel called, jerking his head towards Cassandra. “I want you to tell Cas what you told me about those omegas.”
