“It doesn’t matter how long I gotta wait. This is it for me, Cas. I'll never give up on you, never.”
The alpha and omega stared at each other in silence for a while. Axel was tempted to lean in and kiss Cassandra again, but Cassandra still looked troubled.
“Axel? Why do you want me to stop taking my suppressants?” She asked unexpectedly. “Lucas didn’t think it was a good idea.”
“Well, my brother need to mind his own goddamn business,” Axel frowned. He had no idea why Cassandra would discuss such a personal matter with his brother.
“Don’t be mad at him, Axel,” Cassandra said, trying to defend Lucas. He had been so kind to her and everything he had done was driven by the selfless pursuit of just wanting to help. “I was the one who brought it up. I just wondered why you asked me.”
“I thought I told you," Axel replied gently. "I don’t want you to think you have to hide anymore. I’m proud of what you are, Cas, and you should be, too. You don’t even know how special you are…” Regardless of his words, Cassandra still looked sad.
“To you, maybe. Not everyone is quite so understanding, Axel,” She added with a sigh. Cassandra could see Axel was disappointed, but there was only one answer she could give him right now. “I’ll think about it.”
Axel responded with another smile and pushed himself up from the bed. He aimed his shirt at the wash basket. “I still need to shower. You can come do my back, if you like.” He tried, raising both eyebrows suggestively. It wasn’t really meant as a serious invitation. He knew Cassandra was nowhere near ready for so much intimacy and Cassandra made no attempt to follow him.
“Hmm. The last time I was in a shower with you, I was a sobbing mess,” She replied. Axel looked thoughtful when he turned to grab a clean shirt.
“Maybe we should give you a new memory, then,” Cassandra didn't say anything more. She watched Axel walk away, eyes fixed on the contours of his muscular back until he disappeared through the doorway.
Axel stripped off quickly and dumped his clothes in a pile outside before leaning over the edge and flicking on the switch. Streams of hot water were soon pouring down and swirling in small circles before running into the drain. He stepped in carefully and rolled his shoulders in an attempt to relax.
Axel closed his eyes and let the water trickle over him. He reached blindly for the cleanser and squirted a generous amount into his palm, massaging it into his hair and over his body while he took simple pleasure from the calming flow of warm water.
In the other room, Cassandra was still sitting on the edge of Axel’s bed, playing with her hands in agitation. She was torn between staying where she was and letting her curiosity get the better of her and following Axel into the shower.
“Last chance, Cas!” Cassandra heard Axel shout playfully, over the sound of running water. The alpha left the bathroom door open just enough so his voice would carry, but also made sure he was well hidden from view just in case Cassandra really wasn’t ready to see him butt naked. “I’m just about to rinse!” Axel waited a few seconds with his hands still covered in suds, but Cassandra didn't reply.
Axel hadn’t really expected anything else and he didn’t want to push Cas, so he altered the power setting and rubbed his hands together under the water to lather up the rest of the foam before smearing it over his face. He turned sharply when he heard a noise that sounded like the door had been pushed open.
Axel hurriedly rubbed the soap out of his eyes and blinked a couple of times.
A blurry and unexpected image gradually came into view.
Cassandra was standing nervously in the doorway with her arms wrapped tightly about her body like she was ashamed for Axel to see her like that. She was only wearing a thin pair of shorts to protect her modesty.
“Cas...” Axel stammered in surprise. He genuinely hadn’t expected Cassandra to take him up on it. He was just messing around, but there was no way he was going to admit that now.
“I decided I would like a new memory, after all…” Cassandra whispered hesitantly while staring at the floor. Everything about her in that moment was a testament to how uncomfortable she was with suddenly being so exposed and vulnerable. She seemed reluctant to come any closer. Axel reached for a towel to hurriedly wipe the last of the bubbles from his face so he could see her more clearly.
“Come on, then,” Axel encouraged, stretching out a soapy arm. Cassandra still couldn’t look at him when she grabbed for Axel’s hand and felt herself being pulled under the water before she had the chance to change her mind. She closed her eyes completely when she felt Axel slip wet arms around her back.
The rivulets ran over Cassandra’s shoulders and warmed her body in the comfort of Axel’s embrace. She opened up her eyes, just before Axel captured her mouth with a simple press of his lips.
The water was running over every curve of Axel’s face and Cassandra watched transfixed when it dripped from his eyelashes and the tip of his nose. She forgot herself for a moment and couldn’t resist the temptation to let her eyes wander down the length of Axel’s body.
Cassandra inhaled a splintered gasp when her gaze drifted south.
“You alright?” Axel asked. Cassandra made a strange sound in the back of her throat when she struggled to catch her breath.
“I didn’t expect you to be... so… er, big.” She forced herself to look away.
“Oh…” Axel said, looking between his legs. “Yeah, sorry. Not much I can do about that... you disappointed?” He asked in alarm, a thread of fear winding its way around all his doubt, and pulling real tight.
Cassandra had never seen a naked alpha before, and that was just something she hadn't expected. She shook her head, but still couldn’t look Axel in the eye. Her arms were still wrapped closely around her own body and now she felt rather insignificant in comparison.
“No. I don’t think that's the word I would use,” The omega managed at last. Axel let it go and reached behind him for the soap, slowly squeezing some into his hand. He smoothed it gently through the dark strands of Cassandra's hair and rubbed it in. Deft fingers lovingly massaged it into Cassandra’s scalp before rinsing it off and dabbing at her eyes with the towel to stop them from stinging.
“You smell so good,” Axel said impulsively, like he had suddenly caught a potent scent when he leaned in to run clean water through her hair.
Cassandra didn't move when Axel dared to open his mouth and push out his tongue to sample the air around his omega's throat. He could sense the intoxicating pheromones leaking through her glowing skin and filling the small space with something so delicious, Axel found it impossible to ignore.
The alpha suddenly gripped Cassandra’s shoulders, allowing himself to lick and taste her skin before dragging a rough tongue down the middle of her stomach. Axel dropped to his knees and tilted his head to leave soft, reverent kisses along the prominent curves of Cassandra’s hips, tenderly smoothing both hands over her warm body as it trembled under the touch.
Axel eased down the band of her shorts, deliberately moving his mouth dangerously close to the dip under her abdomen, then slowly back up to one side. Cassandra was watching him with interest, breath starting to come in short gasps when the sensation in her belly began to grow.
“If I didn’t know any better, I would think you were doing that on purpose…” Cassandra said, suddenly inhaling an even sharper breath when she felt the tip of Axel’s searching tongue flick a determined sweep across her stomach. The man just laughed and continued to tease her. Cassandra could feel an overwhelming need to present herself to her alpha… well, soon to be. It rose up inside her when a wave of persuasive pleasure washed over her senses and made her feel reckless and dangerously close to kicking off her underwear and letting Axel just take her.
Cassandra forced her instincts away, frightened at how much her heart wanted to relent.
“Axel, stop... please…” Cassandra begged at last. She tried to pull away and Axel looked up at her and waited.
One more kiss and she would be lost.

Gabriel smiled uneasily when he pocketed the business card LaVey had given him. He agreed to come back later so they could finalize their arrangement. LaVey would no doubt want his fee in advance, so he would have to remember to stop by the bank on his way back to Cassandra’s apartment.
There was a sudden painful tug at his insides when he thought about going behind his sister’s back like that, but he had no idea what else to do. Gabriel had already witnessed the pain of someone he loved suffer a lifetime of disrespect and submission because they had only been claimed to use and make babies. He loved Cassandra too much to let that happen to her as well.
The door barely closed behind him before LaVey was reaching for the phone on his desk. He quickly tapped in the number and waited impatiently for someone to answer. He gave the order without hesitation.
“Follow him. Find out where his sister lives and then go dig up all the dirt you can on this Axel Harrison character. I need him dealt with. I have something very interesting planned for young Cassandra and I don’t want some lust-fueled ape getting in my way.”
LaVey dropped the receiver, cutting off the muffled confirmation on the other end of the line. He smiled and poured out another lavish helping of whisky. The man leaned back in his chair, a bloodthirsty smile of self-satisfaction making it clear he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.
