CHAPTER FIVE: THE ALPHA KING’S SECRET

734 Words
The Elders left the war room with tight lips and dark expressions, but Alex didn't care. He sat back down in his heavy leather chair, staring at the polished wood of the table. To the rest of the world, Alex Blackthorn was a god. He was the Alpha King, an untouchable billionaire, and a warrior who had outlived three generations of enemies. People thought his life was perfect, filled with endless power and luxury. But behind his cold, handsome face lay a dark secret that he kept hidden from everyone: Alex was entirely, deeply exhausted. For over three hundred years, his life had been nothing but a never-ending cycle of duty, war, and isolation. He had watched friends betray him for money and allies turn into enemies for a piece of land. Even worse were the women. Because he was the most powerful Alpha in existence, his crown was the ultimate prize. Countless supernatural noblewomen had thrown themselves at him over the centuries. They wore beautiful dresses, smiled fake smiles, and spoke sweet words, but Alex could always see right through them. They didn't want his heart; they wanted his power. They wanted the title of Lycan Queen. After centuries of dealing with fake love and political traps, Alex had locked his heart away in a cage of ice. He had accepted that he would spend eternity completely alone, ruling his kingdom from the shadows. "Alpha," Jimmy’s voice broke his thoughts. The Beta walked closer, tapping his tablet to show a map of the human university district. "Our tech team managed to download the encrypted security footage from the bus stop before the human network patched the loop. The storm blurred most of the lenses, but we isolated a four-block radius where the target walked after leaving the shelter." Alex’s golden eyes snapped to the screen. "Did you get a face?" "No," Jimmy sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "The rain was too thick, and she wore a hood. But we know she is a student. Her route matches the dorm housing and the small apartment complexes near the campus. My men are checking the enrollment records now." "Tell them to double their efforts," Alex ordered, his voice low and dangerous. "If a dormant bloodline is waking up in my city, we aren't the only ones who will sense it. If our enemies find her first, they will use her to target the throne." Jimmy bowed his head. "I understand, Alpha King. I will handle it personally." ------------------------------ Meanwhile, word was already traveling fast through the elite supernatural territories. A king crossing into human territory in the middle of the night was a massive event, and the gossiping noble families were already buzzing with rumors. In a luxurious estate three hundred miles away from the Blackthorn pack lands, a beautiful woman stood in front of a giant mirror, brushed her long silver hair, and listened to a report from her personal spy. Her name was Lady Victoria. She belonged to one of the oldest and most aristocratic wolf clans in the world. For the past fifty years, her family had been pushing for a marriage alliance between her and Alex. Victoria believed she was the only woman beautiful and powerful enough to stand by the Alpha King's side. When her spy finished explaining how Alex had personally investigated a strange scent in the human city, Victoria’s expensive crystal hairbrush shattered completely in her grip. "A human girl?" Victoria hissed, her eyes flashing an angry, feral blue. "He ignores the most beautiful high-ranking she-wolves in the world, but he runs into the human mud for a worthless orphan?" "We do not know if she is human, my Lady," the spy whispered nervously, keeping his eyes on the floor. "But the Alpha King has ordered his personal guards to search the university district." Victoria turned around, her face twisting into a cruel, jealous expression. She didn't care who the girl was. Anyone who caught Alex's attention was an immediate threat to her future crown. "Prepare my carriage and inform the council that I am visiting Blackthorn Tower tomorrow morning," Victoria commanded, wiping a drop of blood from her palm where the broken crystal had cut her. "If Alex is hiding a little pet in the human city, I will find her myself. And I will make sure she disappears before she ever learns his name."
