Chapter Nine

Jae Hee's Pov Luhan jumped from one branch to the other, everything was going so fast that I couldn't keep my head straight. "Where are you taking me?" I screamed into his ear. I could see the tip of his ear perked up. "You'll see. Just hang on." "Hang on for wha-!" I wasn't able to complete a full sentence when Luhan jumped off a cliff. In that moment, the people who flashed into my head were my parents and my sister, Sohee. Will I ever see them again? He landed on the ground gracefully like it was nothing, whereas I almost had a heart attack. "We're here." He said. It was weird because we were standing in the middle of the woods, there was absolutely nothing here except trees and what seemed like an old run-down cottage. "Here where?" I raised an eyebrow as I took a look around us. Luhan turned around and locked eyes with me before replying, "Where we gather during the full moon." His eyes were still in deep red, I felt chills around my body and I didn't realize I was trembling a little. I bit my lips as I tried to piece everything together but there was always a missing puzzle that I just can't seem to solve. "You guys gather in the woods? What are you, a vampire? Who is we anyway?" I frowned. "A hybrid actually." Another voice came from behind me, I quickly turned around and immediately came in face to face with Kai. It was then that I noticed the color of his eyes, they were golden like the same ones I saw in the woods the other day. For some reason, I felt myself trembling and my heart pounding really hard, "Kai." I called but I was backing up away from him. Something just felt different with him. "He's a hybrid. You do know what's a hybrid, right?" Kai pointed at Luhan before looking back at me as if waiting for my answer. My eyes widen, I looked at Luhan but he wasn't looking back at me. His eyes were glued to the ground. Then I remembered about what that tall guy I saw with Luhan the other day said to him. A hybrid. Oh my God! So I wasn't hearing things. I thought I was just hearing things when that tall guy called Luhan a hybrid. I let out a small laugh, I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. "A hybrid? You're joking right? Are you guys pranking me right now?" "If we were, how do you explain what happened earlier? Why was I able to jump off a cliff without a single scratch on me?" Asked Luhan. He was very serious that I flinched a little. There was no other comeback I could reply him with, to be honest I didn't know what I should say or what I wanted to say, everything was a mess. I licked my lips and turned my attention to Kai who had made himself comfortable on one of the branches that were broken off from the tree. "And what are you? Are you a hybrid too?" He smiled and said, "No. I'm a werewolf." Why am I not surprised? Somewhere deep in my heart I knew that he was a wolf and I also knew that he wouldn't do anything to harm me. At least I hoped he wouldn't. "You aren't going to eat me, are you?" I managed to ask despite how terrified I was. Kai coughed and I think I saw Luhan smiled a bit but it was gone a few seconds later. "Oh God Jae Hee, why would I do that? I may be a wolf but I know better than to eat my own family and besides I don't feed on humans. I eat what any normal humans eat." "Oh good." I placed a hand on my chest as I let out a sigh of relieved. When I had calmed myself down, I remembered what I wanted to ask him, "But how did you guys become a wolf and a hybrid?" I looked at them both. Kai was in a deep thought while Luhan had gone to find more woods so we could make a bigger fire, it was already getting dark. While Luhan wasn't here, Kai decided a minute later to respond to my question, "I was bitten by my own father when I was 13. We didn't have a werewolf bloodline if that's what you're thinking." He smiled. How did he know? That's exactly what I was thinking! He continued, "My father was bitten too, although he never told me who bit him. He said immortality was the answer to our salvation, I didn't know what he meant but I knew that he wasn't himself. A few days later, I found him dead in the woods. A vampire had killed him." "A vampire?" He nodded before continuing his story, "From that day on I held a huge grudge against the vampires. I still do now but Exo is an exception. They are the only family I have left." "Wait, EXO?" "Yeah. Half of us are werewolves and half of us are vampires." You have got to be kidding me. So I've been living with werewolves and Vampires all this time? "Who are werewolves and who are vampires?" "Basically, all of Exo-m are werewolves and all of Exo-K are vampires except for me and Luhan. I'm a member of Exo-k but I'm also a werewolf. Luhan however is special." I was suddenly curious about Luhan's story---why was he different than the rest. "What about Luhan? What is his story?" As if on cue, Luhan returned with a few branches in his hands. He threw them into the fire before landing his gaze on me. I waited for him to speak. "I was part of the SHB experiment; Special Human Project experiment. They use humans as their test subjects to find out if the blood of a werewolf and the blood of a vampire can co-exist in one body. 99% of the test subjects died. I was the only one who survived." There was a pain expression on his face as he told his story. I can't imagined what he's been through---being used as a guinea pig for those rotten scientists who does experiments on humans. Tch-- I wish I could kill them all. I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue pressuring him into telling me more of his story so I decided to change the subject instead. "And what about last night?" They turned their attention to me. "I saw bite marks on D.O's body and Luhan almost died too. I mean what happened last night?" They took an awfully long time to answer my question and I just waited patiently until they were ready to talk. Kai looked at me and said, "There are others just like us." "What do you mean?" "A long time ago in ancient history, 400 years after the war of the gods, werewolves and vampires existed. These two races were sworn enemies and they would do anything to kill each other. The two races would collide and wars would occured." He stopped mid-way and Luhan continued the story for him, "On the last war between the two races, the vampires won and the werewolves were extinct but 30 years ago, they found werewolves living in the dark forest. Apparently, some werewolves survived the war and made refuge in the dark forest, that's how the members of Exo-M and Kai are alive until today." I frowned and shook my head as I tried to make sense of everything, "So wait if vampires and werewolves are enemies then why aren't you guys attacking each other?" I looked at the two of them, confusion was shown on my face. Kai smiled, "That's because not all of us agree with the way of the werewolves and vampires. We don't want a war we just want to live peacefully amongst each other." "That's why we put this group together," said Luhan, "EXO was originally formed to let werewolves and vampires co-exist amongst each other, to let the others know that war isn't always the answer." "But not all of us agreed." This time Kai spoke. "Vampires are more vicious than werewolves so their hatred towards us are bigger than our hatreds towards them. They would kill any werewolves on sight and leave no survivors." I felt my chest tightened as I heard what he said. I knew Vampires were cruel creatures but how could they be so vicious? Kai sighed as he picked up a stick and played with the fire, "The Phantoms, leaders of the vampires, found out about our alliances and they do not agree with it so they've been hunting us down ever since they found out and last night was the first time after 2 years they've attacked us." I widen my eyes, "Wait so you're saying that last night the leaders of the vampires came to the dorm and attacked D.O and Luhan?" "No, not the Phantoms but their minions." Luhan corrected me. Everything was going so fast I felt my head spinning, why did I get tangled up in this? Why me? I felt dizzy so I took a seat on one of the broken branches, I rubbed my temple before continuing the conversation. "So what are we gonna do? Is it even safe to stay at the condo now?" "As long as we're with you, they can't harm you so don't worry." Luhan tried to reassure me and as thankful as I was for his kind gesture, I was still scared---scared of what was going to happen. "There's another thing..." Kai started again. I snapped out of it and looked at him. "The Vampires are targeting you." What? My heart was racing super fast. "Me? But why me?" "They know you're a human and that you play a big role in this. I think they are trying to use you to get to us." My whole body was paralyzed and I felt my legs going numb. I'm being targeted by vampires? "Don't worry Jaehee, we won't let anything happen to you. Trust me." Kai smiled and I smiled back. They're right. I shouldn't worry too much because I know that EXO won't let anything happen to me. I trust them. I just hope I'm strong enough to get through this. = = = (Beep! Beep!) The sound of the alarm woke me up, I squint my eyes as I tried to get better view of my surroundings, everything was kind of a blur. Today was finally the day of our concert but I wasn't very excited unlike before, not after last night anyway. There were hundreds or maybe thousands of vampires out there trying to get to me and I couldn't do anything about it except trust what Kai and Luhan told me. I sighed and thought about what I was going to do next, I walked out of the room and was surprised to see everybody gathered in the living room as if they were waiting for me. Once they saw I was here, they stood up from the couches, their eyes showed how nervous they were and I had a feeling it was because of what I've learned last night. Suho walked over to me and stood a few feet away, "Jae Hee-ah." He was being very awkward. He bit his lower lip then continued, "I heard Luhan and Kai told you everything last night?" I stared at him for a moment before sighing. I closed the door behind me and looked at everyone in the room, I stopped at Suho and said, "They told me what you are, all of you." I tried to act as normal as I could because to tell you the truth? I didn't really want to think about it, part of me regretted for being curious about their lives. "We're sorry we didn't tell you." Said Chanyeol. The look on his showed how concern he was. To be honest? It doesn't really bothered me that the others were keeping a crazy and dangerous secret like this from me but I was really hurt and disappointed that Chanyeol didn't tell me the truth. "We really wanted to tell you but we just didn't know how and there was never a good timing." Said Lay. "We thought we were keeping you safe by not telling you the truth, we didn't want you to get involved but I guess you got involved anyway." Sehun sounded really pitiful when he said that. I looked at the ground as I tried to register everything they've said to me so far. "They are moving faster than we thought. It's not that safe anymore." I looked behind Suho and saw D.O on a wheelchair. I'm glad to see he's okay. "I'm sorry Jae Hee. We should have told you about this sooner. Forgive us." Suho begged for my forgiveness. Suddenly I felt guilty for making everyone feel this way. I still couldn't entirely forgive them for keeping this from me but I was glad that everyone was okay and that was more than enough for me. I flashed a small smile and said, "I forgive you all just no more secrets from now. Got it!" I rested my arms on my waists and glared at them. I guess I successfully made them feel better because everyone was laughing, I laughed along too. Little did I know someone was watching us---
