“You got a call,” John continued. “I could tell from your face, whatever it was you weren’t happy.” I remembered the call. It was from a collection agency, about money Joan owed for a job. She had told me it had been taken care of. I had given her the money to pay the bill. Apparently she hadn’t paid it. “You got off the phone and said something to Joan. I didn’t know what you were saying, but I could tell you were angry.” I had asked her about the bill, if she had paid it.
