Nineteen After one of the officers took Rawls to get his statement, I asked Helen, “Do you believe him?” “It’s easy enough to check, but if he’s telling the truth we know when she was killed.” “What do you mean?” She looked at her notebook. “911 got an anonymous call about a dead woman in a hotel room about 4:00 p.m.” Helen looked up. “He says he spoke to her around 2:00 p.m.. Which means she was murdered sometime between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.” She paused. “And I got to the Rectory at 4:00 p.m.” “But we only have his word about the call,” I pointed out. “As I said. Easy enough to check.” Helen looked at the evidence technician. “Let me see her cell phone.” The technician looked up. She had been photographing the murder weapon. “Cell phone, boss?” “Yes, her cell phone.”
