Chapter 38: Fragments

Chapter 38: Fragments That night Lily couldn't sleep. Ever since Victor revealed Marcus's plans, something felt different. Strange images kept appearing in her mind. Numbers. Symbols. Locations. They arrived without warning. Like memories. But they weren't her memories. At least she didn't think they were. Eventually she left her room and walked into the garage workshop. Serena was still awake. "Couldn't sleep?" Lily shook her head. "No." Serena immediately noticed something was wrong. "What happened?" Lily hesitated. Then grabbed a notebook. Without understanding why, she began writing. A sequence of numbers filled the page. Then a map. Then several strange symbols. When she finished, she looked confused. "I don't know what this means." Victor entered the room moments later. His expression changed the instant he saw the notebook. "Where did you get that?" "I wrote it." Victor stared in disbelief. "That's impossible." Serena stood. "What is it?" Victor pointed toward one of the symbols. "I've seen this before." The room fell silent. "Where?" Adrian asked. Victor swallowed hard. "In the Genesis files." Nobody spoke. The implications were terrifying. Lily wasn't simply connected to Genesis. Parts of Genesis were beginning to surface inside her mind. The process had started. And if Marcus learned about it, he would stop at nothing to capture her. For the first time, Serena realized their situation was even more dangerous than she had imagined. Because the key to Genesis wasn't hidden somewhere in the world. It was waking up inside her daughter.
