Chapter 24: Eleanor's Last Warning Three hours later, Adrian's phone rang. The caller ID displayed a name none of them expected. Eleanor Reed. He answered immediately. "Eleanor?" Her breathing sounded uneven. Fear filled every word. "They know where you are." Serena stepped closer. "Who?" "Marcus." A loud crash echoed through the phone. Someone shouted in the background. Eleanor gasped. "They found me." Serena's stomach tightened. "Where are you?" "I don't have much time." The elderly woman's voice trembled. "For years I've hidden from them." Another crash sounded. Closer this time. "They've been watching all of us." "Eleanor," Serena said urgently. "Tell me what Marcus wants." Silence. Then a whisper. "He believes Lily is the final key." The words sent chills through the room. "The key to what?" Adrian asked. "Genesis." Before anyone could ask another question, gunfire erupted in the background. Lily flinched. "Eleanor!" The woman continued speaking through the chaos. "Listen carefully. There is a safe house outside the city. Inside you'll find answers." The connection crackled. Then Eleanor's voice softened. "Serena... I'm sorry." The apology confused her. "Sorry for what?" A single tear rolled down Serena's cheek as Eleanor replied. "For helping erase your memories." The line went dead. Nobody spoke. The silence felt unbearable. Because for the first time, they knew the truth. Eleanor hadn't just known about the memory wipe. She had participated in it. And now she might be dead.
