Time had flowed since Aria had become part of the village, crafting a fresh start for herself. The locals had grown dear to her, like kin, and they'd welcomed her as their own. Yet, despite the warmth and safety she'd found, Aria never let go of her history. She'd kept her real self hidden, fearing discovery and the need to face the past she'd tried so hard to forget.
During a stroll one day, Aria spotted him. Rkyer, her former mate and alpha. She'd believed she'd never cross paths with him again, thinking she'd left him and his pack behind forever.
Rkyer's eyes grew wide with surprise as he saw Aria, and he moved forward, seeming to approach her. But Aria was swift to act. She held her position, her eyes flashing a clear warning.
"Stay back, Rkyer," she said firmly. "I don't want to hear it."
Rkyer seemed caught off guard by her unfriendly tone, but he nodded slowly. "Aria, please...just listen. I know I caused you pain, but I've changed. I see my errors now, and I want to fix things."
Aria let out a harsh laugh. "You think you can just show up after all this time and expect forgiveness? I've moved on, Rkyer. I don't need you anymore."
Rkyer took another step, his eyes begging. "Aria, please...just give me a chance. I love you, and I always will."
But Aria stood firm. "No, Rkyer. I don't want your love. I want nothing to do with you. Leave me alone."
Rkyer's face fell, but he didn't give up. "Aria, please...just hear me out. I know I hurt you, but I've changed. I see my mistakes now, and I want to make things right."
Aria crossed her arms, her face hard. "What could you possibly say to make up for what you did?"
Rkyer took a deep breath. "I was young and foolish, Aria. I didn't know what I wanted, and I hurt you because of it. But I've grown up now, and I see what I lost. I want to show you that I'm serious about fixing things."
Aria raised an eyebrow. "And how do you plan to do that?"
Rkyer paused, then said, "I just want a chance to talk to you, to explain everything. I want to say sorry and make things right in any way I can."
Aria studied him, her eyes narrowing slightly. "What makes you think I'd even want to listen?"
Rkyer's gaze locked with hers, intense and unwavering. "Because I know you, Aria. You're a good person at heart, and you deserve to hear the truth. And maybe, just maybe, you might find it in yourself to forgive me."
Aria's face hardened, her voice laced with hurt. "You want to talk? You want to apologize? After everything you put me through, Rkyer?"
Guilt flashed across Rkyer's face, but he nodded. "I know I hurt you, Aria. Rejecting you on our Mate Day was a terrible mistake. I was young and foolish, and I didn't realize what I had until it was gone."
Aria let out a bitter laugh. "You think that's all it was? You think turning me down in front of our entire pack was just a simple error?"
Rkyer stepped closer, his eyes pleading. "Aria, I know I made a huge mistake. I was blind and arrogant, and I hurt the one person I should have treasured. But I've seen the error of my ways, and I want to make amends."
Aria's voice rose, her words tumbling out. "You made me look like a fool, Rkyer! I loved you for four years, and you cast me aside like I meant nothing. You embarrassed me in front of everyone we knew. And now you think a simple sorry will fix everything?"
Rkyer paled, but nodded. "I don't expect it to be easy, Aria. I don't think you'll forgive me overnight. But I want to try. I want to show you that I'm committed to making things right."
Rkyer took a step back, his eyes filled with sorrow. "I'm not asking for forgiveness, Aria. I just want a chance to make amends. I want to prove that I'll do whatever it takes to earn back your trust."
Aria laughed harshly, tears welling in her eyes. "You want to earn my trust? You think that's even possible after what you've done?"
Rkyer's face twisted in pain, his voice breaking. "Aria, please... I know I've hurt you deeply. But I can't live without you. You're my mate, my everything. I want to spend the rest of my days making it up to you."
Aria's eyes dropped, her frame quivering with emotion. Rkyer's plea had stirred a deep yearning she thought she'd long suppressed. Yet, could she ever truly place her faith in him again?
Aria's gaze lowered, her body trembling with sobs. She inhaled deeply and faced Rkyer once more, her eyes puffy but determined.
"Rkyer, you should go," she said, her voice steady yet quavering. "By now, you're meant to have found a partner. You're supposed to have continued with your life."
Rkyer's expression contorted in pain. "I couldn't, Aria. I couldn't bond with anyone else. You're my true partner, my only mate. I've been looking for you everywhere, trying to understand what happened."
Aria's face grew stern. "You should have considered that before you turned me away, Rkyer. You should have thought about that before you shattered my heart."
Rkyer stepped closer, his eyes beseeching. "Aria, please...just give me one more chance. I'll do anything to make amends."
Aria's voice heightened, her words sharp. "No, Rkyer. You've had your opportunity. Now it's too late. I've moved forward with my life, and I don't need you anymore."
Rkyer's countenance fell, his eyes filling with profound sorrow. He nodded slowly, his voice barely audible. "I understand, Aria. I'll leave you be. But know this: I'll never stop caring for you. You'll always be my mate, my everything."
With that, Rkyer turned and walked away, leaving Aria shaken but resolute. She knew she'd made the right choice, but a part of her would always love Rkyer and will always want to be with him.
