Chapter 2: The System Awakens
Kelvin sat up on the sand and wiped the salt water from his eyes. The glowing interface still hovered in front of him, waiting for a response.
"What kind of system is this?" he asked.
[You have gained access to the Country Creation system. Just like any game, you can create a country, summon citizens that are loyal to you, build infrastructure, and unlock technology.]
He read the message and furrowed his brows, then tilted his head to the side. He was given a system. And what was with the power where he could create a country and summon citizens and other things? Everything felt too inconceivable.
Before he could ask another question, the interface shifted and a new window appeared.
[Name: Kelvin Miller.]
[Country Name: N/A]
[Population: N/A]
[Military Personnel: N/A]
[Treasury: N/A]
[Map:]
[Mission:]
[Instant card:]
[Shop:]
[Inventory:]
[Wheel of Fortune:]
[Help:]
[You have a new mission!]
[Mission#1: Come up with a name for your country. You can also change your name to signify a new start.]
[Rewards: Full access to the system and one exclusive lottery ticket.]
"Mission?" Kelvin repeated. So now he had to follow whatever it was the system was giving him.
He sighed. Seeing that he had no choice and there was nothing to lose if he followed it, he started pondering the name of his new country. First, it could not be Freedonia or Miller, because he did not want to be associated with the name that had cursed him and brought misfortune into his life. After a few moments of deep contemplation, a name came to him. A name that felt right.
He faced the interface and spoke the name. "Nzema. I change my name to Kelvin Vi Nzema."
The interface responded immediately.
[Country Name: Nzema]
[Mission#1 Complete]
[Rewards: Full access to the system and one exclusive lottery ticket.]
Immediately after, Kelvin opened the tab that was available for him to click, and that was the map.
[Map: Nzema]
[Area: 10,087,041 km²]
[Land: 99.7%]
[Water: 0.3%]
[Regions:]
[Western Coastal Plain: Flat lowlands along the western shore, covered in dense tropical forest with numerous rivers flowing to the sea. The soil is rich and dark, suitable for agriculture.]
[Central Highlands: A elevated plateau running north to south through the middle of the territory. The highlands are cooler than the coast, with mixed hardwood forests and rocky outcroppings. Several freshwater lakes are scattered across this region.]
[Eastern Savanna: A broad expanse of grassland with scattered acacia trees and seasonal rivers. The savanna covers nearly a third of the territory and has deep aquifers beneath the surface.]
[Southern Peninsula: A narrow finger of land extending into the ocean, covered in mangrove swamps and sandy beaches. The peninsula has natural deep water harbors on both sides.]
[Northern Great Forest: A vast, unexplored woodland that makes up the northern quarter of the territory. The forest is dense, with trees reaching heights of over 60 meters, and the canopy blocks most sunlight from reaching the ground.]
[Lake Region: A cluster of six large freshwater lakes in the northeastern section of the Central Highlands, connected by a network of rivers that eventually flow to the western coast.]
[Fertile Crescent: A curved strip of land along the eastern edge of the Central Highlands where two major rivers converge. The soil here is exceptionally rich, and the climate is mild year round.]
Kelvin studied the map intently, and as far as his geography knowledge went, he had not seen this island on any world map. This island had just emerged on the western part of the southern tip of the Ynn Continent. But one thing was certain: the island was diverse and huge.
So this was to be his country, huh? A place where people did not even know existed, unless they discovered it. He wanted to know more about the system, so he tapped the help tab, and there each description of the tab was displayed.
[Treasury: The main currency of the system. You can earn it by completing a mission or revenue from the state.]
[Mission: This is where all the new, pending, and completed missions are going to be displayed.]
[Map: Display the map of your country.]
[Instant card: A magical item that can be used to instantly build anything, specifically infrastructures.]
[Shop: This is where you can buy everything you need to build your country.]
[Inventory: Store all your items and needs without limits.]
[Wheel of Fortune: You can try your luck here by spinning the Wheel of Fortune and earn huge rewards.]
Reading those descriptions, Kelvin nodded as he understood every function of the tab now.
[You have yet to use your exclusive lottery ticket!]
"Huh?" Kelvin snapped back out of his reverie from the reminder of the system. The exclusive lottery ticket was an item he had received by completing his first mission.
Curious about what it could do, he went to his inventory tab, and there he saw the glowing icon of the exclusive lottery ticket. When he tapped it, a new interface popped up. There were six chests with question mark icons, and an instruction hovered above them.
[Please select one among the boxes and receive your rewards!]
So he only needed to select one, huh? That was fairly easy, and he did not give much thought to it. He chose randomly, and the one he selected glowed in size, and an animation of it being pried open played.
[Congratulations! You have received 10,000,000,000,000 treasury funds!]
[Please choose name for currency]
Kelvin's eyes opened wide. Based on the number of zeros, it must be in the trillions. There was no mistaking it. It was a huge number, but how huge was it when there was nothing to base it on? Well, he would study that later as another message popped up.
"Currency will be called cedis," Kelvin muttered. "The system can decide its purchasing power."
[New Mission Alert!]
[Mission#2: Now that you have a name for your country and the funds to build one, it is time for you to build a country, starting from the government. Your mission is to select an ideal form of government. Authoritarian, Democratic, Monarchy, Dictatorship, Oligarchy.]
[Rewards: Unlock the 'Government Structure' interface, 100,000 citizens, and essential infrastructure.]
End of Chapter Two.
