At Ada's memorial service, Greta greeted the guests with impatience. She didn't know any of them. It was almost noon when Lucas finally showed up with Jacob. Like the opening of a film, I announced that the service was starting. The venue was an old, rundown villa. It wasn't as perfect as I had pictured, but it was quiet and away from everything. As the lights dimmed, a large screen started showing videos of my daughter from when she was alive. I slipped back slowly into the shadows, keeping my eyes on Lucas and the others.
