The Human and Her Alpha

I lose the scent as soon as I pick up on it, Zeus is going crazy in my head and wants to be let out so he can track the smell. He is convinced that it’s our mates smell and once we find her, she will be ours, but I gave up hope on a mate a long time ago, so I block him out of my mind.

‘alpha, we need you at the western borders’ a warrior links me

‘what’s going on?’ I question as I make my way over

‘we smell rogues, not many seems to be a scouting party’

‘I’m sure you can handle this Sean’

‘a message has been left Alpha’ now that is strange for something to be left, usually rogues come too close to our border smell out numbers and run the opposite direction they never leave messages

‘I’m on my way. Kane, Matt, Carl. I need you at the western border now’ I run through the woods towards the western patrol area, Matt and Kane are already there they must have been close by

“where’s Carl?” I question

“he’s with his sister and dad at the training field, he’s blocking us.” Replies Matt

“link Paul then and get him to speak to Carl. We need the warriors to be prepared just in case” I walk towards the patrol guard “where’s this message?” the guard just points towards a tree. Hung up on a tree is a deer head with a knife sticking out of its skull, a piece of paper stuck to it, written in blood is the message

I WANT HER BACK

I stare at the message, who do they want back? We haven’t taken anyone, we’ve not even had any new wolves come in to the pack. The only person new to the pack is Carl’s sister and she isn’t even a member of the pack yet. I show the note to Kane and Matt

“who do you think they mean?” ask Kane and hands the note to Matt, he studies the note turning it in his fingers

“you don’t think they mean Pix..Rachael?” I notice he starts to call her something else but corrects himself. I wonder if he has a thing for Rachael, he has spent the most time with her. I understand why she would prefer is company, he has a calming spirit he can go into any situation and calm it instantly, we call it his superpower

“what do you know about her past?” I ask Matt

“not a lot really, we haven’t spoken about her past. No one’s mentioned any trouble she was in, from what Carl has told me she’s a pretty quiet person. She has two best friends back in Sheffield, she met them in Uni. No mention of any boyfriend, she had a job in a design agency, but her dad has resigned for her and I don't think she knows that yet”

“I need to speak to Carl and Paul now” I walk back to my office

‘Paul and Carl, my office. Now.’ I link both men and run towards the pack house. I go through the back door and up the back stairs which go directly to my floor, I smell the hint of slated caramel latte, but I put that to the back of my head. If this human has brought trouble to my pack, I need it dealt with quickly and quietly.

Carl and Paul are waiting outside my office door, I walk in and they follow

“what seems to be the problem alpha?” Paul takes a seat on the couch and Carl stands in the doorway

“there was a note left at the border a few minutes ago that simply said I want her back. The only new person on our land at this time is Rachael, so I need you to tell me if she is in any trouble with anyone or if someone from her old life would look for her. Ex-boyfriends? Anything like that”

“Rachael hasn't brought any trouble to the pack; I have been keeping an eye on her for the last 12 years. I know of one serious boyfriend but that ended a couple of years ago now and nothing since. She was well liked in her job, only really has 2 friends Beth and Kate, they both live in Sheffield town centre, they’re harmless both designers for a clothing company.” I can see the worry in Pauls eyes, he just got his daughter back and now I am suggesting someone wants to take her

“why do you think it’s Rachael?” asks Carl I can see the worry in his eyes too

“I can’t be sure it is, but she is the only new person to enter our border in the last few days. All I’m doing is trying to get information.” I try to reassure the men, Rachael is human and there for a lot more vulnerable than most in the pack, even the young pups have some sense of fighting skills.

‘alpha, we have found another note’ matt links me

‘where?’

‘north border, think you should come see it’

‘is it the same as the last one’

‘just come’ he ends the link; I stand up from my desk

“there has been another note left, Carl you come with me. Paul you speak to your daughter and see if you can find any more information. Me and carl rush over to the north border, this time the tree trunk has been drenched in blood with a single word carved into the bark

“what do you think that means?” I ask no one in particular, this is a bizarre message I don't understand the link between both messages

“I don't get it?” Carl gets closer to the blood “the blood smells weird, it has no scent to it” I close my eyes and open my senses to the smell, he is right the blood has no scent at all, like it’s been messed with

“take a sample of the blood and send it over to the Doc, he may be able to give us more information. Wash the tree off and tell no one of these messages until we know more. If they are about Rachael she needs to stay in the pack or with your dad for now.” Everyone agrees and we go back to the pack house, I am lost in thought as we enter the front. I am instantly hit with the salted caramel latte smell; Zeus starts fighting me to take control

‘MATE’ he yells in my head ‘MATE, go to mate’ I start looking around, I let Zeus track the smell, he leads us to the living room and sleeping in my oversized leather chair has to be the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, I can’t tell much from where I am standing but her face looks so peaceful, she is almost glowing, and the light only gets brighter as I get closer to her. She lets out a small whimper and shifts potions in the chair, he face turns to that of pain and I don’t know what came over me but I pick her up in my arms. As soon as I touch her arm with my hand sparks erupt throughout my body, my d**k goes instantly hard

‘MATE, MATE, MATE’ Zeus is running in circles around my head, he is so excited that we have finally found our mate.
