I’m walking to the pack hospital, I try to avoid bumping into people, but I can never avoid people, I smell salted caramel latte again and look around, Zeus in my head is up on his back paws looking for the owner of the smell.

‘mate’ Zeus says in my head, I start scanning my surroundings, but I don't see anyone that stands out. I’m so preoccupied with looking around I don't notice Carl and Kane coming up to me,

“alpha?” the approach me slowly “are you ok?” I snap out of my search and look at them both

“yeah, just thinking” I brush off their concerns. I cannot mention the smell or that I know my mate is nearby as it could be a trick. I need to be sure before I confirm anything to anyone. It would just send people mad and my mum would never leave me alone if she found out my suspicions.

“did you need something?” I look at them, they both look nervous

“Rachael ran off, we think she’s freaking out about shifters. We thought you might need to know in case you come across her. We sent Matt to follow her as she seems to like him hopefully dad can control her” Carl sighs and hangs his head

“what did you think of her?”

“honestly, she looks broken. She seems to have lost weight since I saw her but not too much. If you look in her eyes though, they look so sad, she tries to mask it but we noticed. I don't even know how much dad told her before she stormed out on him”

“she stormed out on your dad?” I ask, quite impressed with her courage, carl laughs

“yeah, she ran out of his office. He was shouting her to come back, I could hear him from the training grounds, but she just ignored him. She got more balls than us”

“yeah, I would never ignore your dad” laughs Kane

“only other person I was scared to ignore was our dad” I chuckle thinking about my dad and Paul being alpha and beta. They were a force to be reckoned with.

“doc wanted me to go over his plans for the maternity ward they want to add to the hospital, with all the extra pups the packs been having he thinks it’ll be a good idea for us to dedicate an area for it.”

“sounds like a good idea, hopefully me and Annie will be making use of it soon” carl laughs, I know him, and Annie have just started trying to have pups since they met a few months ago. As soon as Annie turned 18 her wolf shifted and started looking for Carl was so weird, she hunted him down and I had to force them to go to their room before they started doing it on the training field. The first few weeks with them two around was unbearable for all of us, I had to use my Alpha tone quite a few times to make them break apart. I try not to use my Alpha tone on my subjects unless there is danger around.

“I need to get to training, it's the youngster group which is always fun watching little kids run around trying to hit each other.” Kane runs off towards the training ground. He’s one of the best fighters I have and he’s such a good teacher he’s more patient than me even though he is 5 years younger than me. Everyone was shocked that I made him my Gamma, they all thought I'd choose Matt who is one of my best friends like Carl, but I needed to give Kane a purpose otherwise I know he would have gone wild. I had spoken to Matt about this before I decided anything and even though it was his right to be my Gamma, he was happy to have Kane do it. I still use Matt for a lot of jobs, he is a great fighter, but he is also level-headed and keeps his cool in any situation.

“I’m gunna go talk to my dad, see what he said to Rach to freak out. Maybe I can speak to her instead of him” I wave bye to Carl and hope he gets things sorted with his sister. I don't want her to cause any issues with our pack. I know humans don’t usually cause any issues but were not meant to expose ourselves, if it can be helped.

I walk over to the pack hospital and Dr Allen meets me at the door

“hello doctor” I shake his hand and he leads me inside the pack hospital. He starts to explain his plans for expanding the hospital and creating a maternity ward for 30 people, he goes on to ask me about a maternity school programme that he wants to lead so we can have experts in supernatural births. It is very rare that we ever lose pups or their mums but it does happen.

“it sounds like an excellent idea doctor” I shake his hand again

“I can have the plans on your desk within the next few days” he explains

“if you can give me as much information as possible, costings, man power, time scale that sort of thing I can review it with the team and see what we can do. I am keen to get this project off the ground as I feel it will benefit the pack greatly. Good work doctor”

“thank you Alpha” we say our goodbyes and I leave the pack house. A few of the nurse wave and smile at me but I pay no attention to them nowadays I’m too busy to chase woman around now. I wonder around the territory, saying hello to some pack members. I don’t know where I am walking to, but I find myself at the training guards, I stand around watching the youngsters finish up their training. I catch the salted caramel latte scent and Zeus is on alert again.
