Leo’s POV
I noticed how Luke's eyes grew wider as a result of what I stated. However, my father continued drinking wine as usual.
Lucas was at a loss for how to engage us when my father spoke again.
"I don't care who you get pregnant with. With all the ladies you've met, I'm confident you'll select only one of their names to tell me a lie." He gave me no indication that he was looking at me.
Is it truly the zenith of my character degradation for him?
"This time, Dad, I'm serious. I truly love that woman, and I will not marry anyone till I present her at the altar!" I ultimately chose to defend what I said.
"If what you're saying is real, who is the woman you're mentioning to? Why didn't you immediately introduce her to us?" From losing his patience, his demeanor changed. It was supplanted with a thirst for learning.
"I won’t say her name."
I'm not going to mention Madeleine's name. My dad will undoubtedly investigate it.
"In that case, go ahead and marry her and let her give birth to my grandson."
I resisted his look and was not in the mood. Whenever he sees me, the only thing that crosses his mind is the woman I will marry and his wish to have grandsons.
"It is none of your concern, my dear father. Do not exert control over me since I am capable of making my own choices." I reminded him coldly and rose to my feet.
I left them there but heard my father's final words before I could exit the dining room.
“Let’s wait and see, Leo.”
I drove back to my apartment without even cleaning my thoughts of the events of this evening. I made a hasty return home, and upon entering, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
It was from Lucas.
“It appears as though dad has a game plan; you should be vigilant."
"It seems to be."
I sat on the sofa, leaning my back and head. I massaged my eyes since my head was aching from my father's persistence.
"In any case, I'm intrigued by the woman you're telling dad about. Is that another reason for you to refuse him what he needs and wants?" I heard a faint laugh from him.
"It is true that I admire that woman. I had a one-night stand with her - and yeah… I also used that justification to oppose our father's whims." I bore him with my reasoning.
"...So, where is that woman now? Why are you not introducing her to our father?" His voice got more energetic, but I lost even more willingness to answer all his questions.
“I don't want to talk about her anymore,” I replied lazily and hung up.
I closed my eyes. Sadly, only seconds later, the phone rang again.
I assumed it was another call from Lucas, but it was actually my best friend Raymond.
"Hey what's up?" Raymond extends a greeting to me.
"Yo."
"Looks like you had another fight with your father, huh?" He teased me.
"What do you mean?" I changed my seated position.
"Your father called and inquired about the previous day's celebration."
I rolled my eyes at what he said. My back straightened considerably further as a result of what he stated.
I'm telling you, he will not miss this. But even so, I did not anticipate his investigation to be any more expeditious.
“So? Did he offer you five million dollars to tell him what happened that day?”
“Hey I’m not that kind of person, pal,” He said jokingly, “He should pay at least ten million to buy me off.”
Good humor, but bad timing.
“Don’t worry, I already covered you up. But you know, he will find it eventually even though without my testimony. So, what actually happened?"
"He wants me to marry the Black family's daughter. I explained to him that I had already fallen in love with someone. I will not marry the woman he is telling me. I also lied to him about Madeleine's pregnancy." I told Raymond what had happened in our mansion so that the details would be clearer to him.
“…Wow, that is what went wrong." He paused on the other line as if thinking.
I, too, had fallen silent, and after a few minutes of stillness on the other end of the line, he spoke.
"I believe you certainly need to find Madeleine right now to avoid any further complications."
My head began to suffocate under the weight of the ideas I was thinking. I'm still at a loss on what to do.
When my dozing mind awoke, I glanced at my phone, and Raymond soon disconnected the call.
I returned to my table from earlier. I checked my next week's schedule and ensured that I did not miss Madeleine's Monday appointment.
I conditioned my thoughts by staring at my screen for an extended period of time.
After a few moments of deliberation, I pulled out my phone again to get the number of Mark, my assistant.
I hastily typed a message and sent it to him.
I read the message I had left for him a second time.
"Mark, send an email to Madeleine. Tell her I accepted the interview."
